Re: Game Thread: Sac-Town @ A-Town -- 11/1
That was the ultimate Jekyll and Hyde game for Ice Trae - he did an incredible job of facilitating, finishing with 10 assists (and he should've had 14 or 15 if not for incompetent play from his teammates), but he had 8 turnovers which is downright unacceptable. He lost some confidence in the handle in the second half and I can see why. Hopefully that number shrinks to two or less on Saturday.
He also did a great job of getting to the rim, but then again wasn't finishing consistently. If he could've finished some of those drives he would've ended with 20+ points again. Just growing pains, but I would like to see more than just one 3-point attempt. I know I got frustrated with his shot not being back yet, but that shot will never come if he doesn't shoot it.
The 3rd quarter beatdowns really are on Lloyd Pearce - he looks to be outcoached at the halftime interval in every game, and needs to improve on that rapidly.
All in all, the Kings look like a buzzsaw right now, and we caught them at the wrong time. It is a good result for the tank, but I wish it wasn't so lopsided for the sake of the fans. At least we got that free chicken sandwich as a result of Frank Mason's two missed FTs in the 4th.

Yeah, when the entire team is looking down, some of the blame has to go to Lloyd Pierce. The turnovers are really killing the momentum. When you turn the ball over, you not only lose the possession and a scoring opportunity but it gives the other team better scoring opportunities. I don't know what the Kings points off turnovers were but it was probably high. Conversely, if the Hawks can't create turnovers, it calcifies the offense and prevents easy baskets.
Other thoughts:
- I hope Huerter's injury isn't serious. I knew when Hield rolled on him, there'd be an issue.
- It's interesting to note that Trae had a relatively decent shooting efficiency day. 6-13 FG. If you take out his 0-1 3pta, he was 6-12 on 2pt. Getting those easy 2pters on drives will help Trae get his FG% up. Likewise, if you look at Lin's numbers, he was 8-13 FG and 2-7 3pt, meaning that he was 6-6 on 2pta. Lin was driving a lot, making 2pters, and getting to the line.
- I feel like Len blew 3 dunks in the game. ALso, his per36 rebounding rate is the worst of his career, though I think him taking more 3pt is moving him further from the basket so that could make sense. Still, I think Dedmon should return to the starting lineup.
- Taurean is looking defeated, while Bazemore seems to complain about everything.

Part of me feels like Trae is living in 3018 with his passing and is playing with players who shouldn't be on the BayHawks in terms of quality.
Far too often he is forcing passes or is making nice dimes, yet the players on the other side can't handle them.

Is it time to shake up the starting line-up yet or is that off the table because winning is not top priority?
With the exception of Trae, maybe Loyd should look to switch things up a bit to see if he can get better result since they've been getting pounded badly.
Maybe teaming up Trae and Lin in the starting unit, although Lin is clearly not moving well on defense yet and Trae is not good on defense.
Move Vince Carter to the bench and go small with a lot of traps. Trae/Lin/Baze/Prince/Dedmon.
Or move one of Baze/Prince to the bench for a taller PF.

I'd definitely move Dedmon to the starting lineup.

I saw stats of best and worst lineup in +/-. All the bad lineups have something in common: Prince. Prince has to play smarter. Collins will be a shakeup to the starting lineup. I agree with Dedmon with the starters.

Seems like the team adjusted and learned from bad game against Kings. Much better passing and defense in Heat game.
Fox wants to make all star defense team this year; and has a personal goal to lead the league in steals. So not a surprise Trae Young had a rough night.
