I'm a little over the top on Ayton, but it because he has a chance to be great... and he is on the SUNS! God-given physique and skills, but no heart.
If the Suns players do read this board, I would hope our posts and feedback fires them up and motivates them to get better.
Nothing wrong with a little tough love...
I don't mean you or anyone specifically, just for the record. I don't see much feedback here though. Feedback is discussing ways to correct issues, not just **** on them for everything they do. I don't think many people would get motivated by their own fans constantly telling them to grow balls, calling them busts every other post, or talking about how they wish we drafted nearly every other player.
Bumps in the road his rookie year won't stop him from being great. Everyone knew defense was going to be an issue, and those instincts don't develop overnight. He's averaging 17/10/3 with the best advanced stats of any rookie, but you'd think he was awful if you read the posts here.
Agreed for the most part. I just get so frustrated when I watch a 7.1 250lb really talented basketball player not try.
I guess my feedback would be to 1) box out 2) block a shot once in a while 3) don't let your man back you down like you weigh 110lbs 4) hustle 5) be more defensively aware on the PnR 6) jump on occasion 7) maybe try backing your man down on offense 8) don't complain or whine 9) initiate contact 10) embrace contact and your CENTER role that you will have for your entire career. 11) don't be soft.
I'm not a basketball expert and never played outside of recreational college pick up games, so this will be the extent of my feedback/coaching. Let's hope Ayton reads this forum.
I think he tries, or at least he always seems gassed by the end of games. I think he's a step slow because his feel for the game isn't as far along as the guys that have been playing since they were kids. Luka Doncic was already playing professionally when Ayton picked up basketball. Experience, good coaching, and film are going to be huge in developing Ayton on the defensive end. It's encouraging that he's mostly looked the part on offense and is a better passer than expected though.
You're spot on though. His rim protection as a whole needs to improve. Too much standing and watching with his hands down.
