Hey man, Im not trying to crap on the Wolves, they were a good team, I think they still are. But the Wovles werent head and shoulders over the competition, 4th seed and under. They were close to the pack like every other team that was the 3rd seed before, and after they were. Teams had all types of injuries throughout the season. Gobert, Milsap,CP3, Curry, Kawhi, Cousins, Gasol, M. Conely, the Clippers entire roster, ect. all missed major time, costing there teams wins last season. As fans, we are all a bit cheated when guys get hurt, but Butler's missed time is no more special then those other star's injuries. Who knows what the seedings would've been in an injury-free league, to bad it doesn't exist.
 Rockets 2008-09, 2017-18 seasons.

Good luck on the Wolves season though, with whatever path they choose to go.

When Butler was healthy there was a clear growing gap between them and the 4th seed last year.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/friv/standings.fcgi?month=2&day=24&year=2018&lg_id=NBA

Butler was hurt during Feb. 23 game vs. Rockets, these were the standings after

Not much of gap between even the 8th seed other than Wolves had played few more games than most teams on that particular date

Wolves really can't complain about their health "luck" last season

Woof. I hated Butler once he went Hollywood/Diva on my Bulls so none of this surprises me. Heck of a player, but he's unbelievably selfish. This is now the 3rd group of NBA players he's managed to alienate. Sucks for you guys man, hopefully you get something of value for him.

Jimmy may have went Hollywood, criticized the youngins, and a bad coach, but let's not overstate things like claiming Jimmy has alienated entire 'groups' of NBA players and 3 'groups' of them to boot. That's fake news. Truth be told, Jimmy may be the most popular Bulls alum (around the league) since the 90's.

Not trying to derail this thread, but nobody ever said he alienated entire groups of NBA players.

Fact: he's managed to alienate himself from 3 different groups of NBA players.

Feel free to continue to defend him as you see fit, the beating he's taking in Chicago from those who have covered him and the team speaks volumes.

OK, well you just go ahead and name these groups. I'm from Chicago. The voices I hear on the radio are just voices I hear on the radio. Who says they have a firm grasp about anything?

What would their opinions be if Jimmy was the face the Bulls? Bet they'd be different.
Mine wouldn't.

I'm glad you're from Chicago, do you live here now? You must not be listening very closely to the things Mark Schanowski, Kendall Gill, Dan Bernstein etc have been discussing and sharing about Butler and his time here.

Anyway, PM me if you want to discuss this further, I'm not going to derail this thread. Apologies Timberwolves forum.

Moved to NW Indiana. Gotta go with statewide fiscal competence and prosperity over anything. But like I said, I know Jimmy went Hollywood and I have trouble not finding him annoying off the court -- I just have zero reason to ignore what I've seen on a national level regarding the dude's popularity. I get that GarPax, their media and Rondo may have beef.

I"m guessing he's meaning Noah/Rose group vs Butler when Rose was nowhere near the same player but Rose and Noah felt he was while Butler was an all-star. The 2nd group would be the young group in Chicago who wouldn't pay attention and dance along the sidelines during a game and of course now, where it only seems that Towns has an issue with him.

Derrick is Noah's little bro so I got that. It was a rough transition to the reality of the situation at the time.

2015-16 Bulls: couldn't get along with Rose/Noah/Gasol, couldn't play on the court with Rose so the team was dismantled. "What's so hard about PG, I can play PG". Rose traded etc etc

2016-17 Bulls: couldn't get along with Rondo, blasted the entire team (sound familiar?) save for Dwyane Wade. Alienated himself from the entire roster save for Wade. Talked about how many days he would come to practice and be quiet, withdrawn, pissy, said he didn't know why but that's just who he is sometimes (weird). That team dismantled, Butler traded away to Minnesota

2017-18 Timberwolves: couldn't get along with KAT or Wiggins, rumors of trying to bang KAT's girlfriend, called KAT a cancer, etc.

2018-19 Timberwolves: acting like a complete and utter *** and pouting because he wants to get traded.

That should sum it up for anyone else that is wondering what I mean.

Not sure I'd try to lump Gasol in anything. And the bulls rebuild was inevitable after Gar struck out with Hoiberg. We were sold a bunch of BS about pace and space and how Hoiberg was gonna be our saving grace. Dougie was gonna take us to the promise land. Lol

1. Rose was a shell of his old self and should have let the better player get more shots, he didn't, Noah backed Rose so there was a division, didn't really hear Gasol having a problem with Butler, in fact I thought he was with Butler on the issues. The team was dismantled because they didn't want to resign Rose and his court issues were a problem. For Gasol having such a problem with him he did say...
Gasol expressed gratefulness for the Reinsdorfs, his teammates and the fans and saved special praise for Jimmy Butler, whom he called "a leader." Derrick Rose, with whom Gasol wasn't close, wasn't mentioned.

"I saw Jimmy Butler transform from a role player the season before I got to the team, into an All-Star in this league — and more importantly, into a leader," Gasol wrote. "I hope to watch him continue to rise — and carry the team with him — for years to come."

https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/ct-pau-gasol-essay-chicago-bulls-spt-0708-20160707-story.html

2. I do believe the only problem Rondo had was that they(Wade and Butler) went to the press, not that he was wrong. Chicago refused to do anything with the problem players, in fact they kept Portis after he punched a teammate hard enough to put him in the hospital during a practice.

3. Butler seems to get along with everyone but Towns. I'm not really sure anyone could upset Wiggins, he's a very laid back personality.

4. Won't really argue that since not everything is public at this time.

The way Washington is going, maybe they may be open for making a move for Butler and giving up real assets for him.

So to summarize Jimmy Butler: Can't get along with Rose/Noah, team dismantled and Butler made 'the man'. Can't get along with new roster save for Wade, criticizes head coach, demeans younger players in practice and in public, can't lead team once Rondo got hurt in the playoffs. That team dismantled. Goes to Minnesota, more issues with teammates, makes a ridiculous scene in practice and National spectacle due to selfishness and now demands to be traded and is pulling himself from games he doesn't feel like playing.

I'll tell you what, you can have him. I don't want someone like that on my franchise, but that's just me. It's one thing if he's Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant, but he's not. He's not even close.

He'd have to be with the current payroll and Okogie showing real NBA ability. I'm having trouble deciding what the team needs are moving forward. They've clearly changed from before training camp.

Hey man, Im not trying to crap on the Wolves, they were a good team, I think they still are. But the Wovles werent head and shoulders over the competition, 4th seed and under.

Well, the Wolves were the clear 3 seed, and were closer to 2 than 4, when Jimmy went down. They went 8-9 without Jimmy. At season’s send, if they had won one more game, they would have been the four seed.

They were the clear 3 seed.

Let KBD get some minutes with the first team to see what we have, either way I think we draft a PF... I would've said PG but I think we could roll with Rose for at least another season or 2.

From the start of the pre-season I've thought the Wizards make a lot of sense in terms of a trade partner. I've been surprised that they haven't really been involved. I think a deal could be built around Beal or Porter that would work for both teams.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
