Don't get me wrong, I love what I've seen so far with Williams. I think he has an enormous amount of potential. I'm just saying that the G-League isn't really the best assessment of talent (Again, Mickey had some amazing games for the Red Claws, but it obviously didn't carry over to the NBA).
I really want to see Williams getting some time with the C's, and not just end of game garbage time. I would love to see him getting some quality minutes with the top players, playing against some of the best players.
Stats aside, though, I do like him getting some actual playing time with the Red Claws. G-League games are much better than team scrimmages.

Williams will get more time, as he catches up, so to speak, to the NBA speed of playing.
He does show quite of bit of promise, in NBA games, as well as G-League.

I loved the way he played last night. Also that Danny and Mike Z. were both up there court-side to see his performance. He was a heady contributor who made the most difference on the court, but didn't get wrapped up in reaching too much for his own scoring or blocks or anything. (I only saw part of the game.)

It is especially challenging and rare for a big man to come in to the NBA and be prepared to make a difference right off. And he hasn't had top-level coaching (including the likes of having a father in the pro game) until now. So it makes sense that he has more than the usual room to grow from where he is now. But he's clearly a heady young player out there, doing his best to learn it all fast.

Friday's Game will Re-Air on NBC Sports/Boston, 4pm-6pm, Sat. Nov. 3, 2018

Thanks. I set that to record...

Has anyone been to a game ? I caught part of last night's on f.b. and it looked like a high school arena..I am going to be up in Portland Sat night and Sun afternoon and was thinking of going.

The Red Claws play at the Portland Expo, which is basically the size of some high school gyms (I think it seats about 3,000.) There's a bigger arena here in Portland, where the minor league hockey team used to play, but the atmosphere in the Expo is honestly much better. Good place to watch a game. The back wall of the Expo overlooks Hadlock Field, where the Sea Dogs play.

That game is going to be rebroadcast on NBC sports/Boston at 4-6pm, EST today (Sat). That's in about 45 mins.

It was the Cumberland County Civic Center for many years, but I think it's called the Cross Insurance Arena these days. The folks who owned the arena never had good relationships with the teams that played there over the years, and they never seemed to be able to fill it.

Oh wow. Now, that's a nice Arena.
Get the right owners in there, and it would be golden, for a few minor league teams.

They have parts of the high school state tourney there, and it gets rocking.

We have our new minor league hockey team in that building, the Mariners. They had a really good turnout last night.

The arena is probably a 2 minute walk from my apartment. I would love if the Claws played there instead of the Expo.

Obviously I'd rather see Williams looking good up there, then looking bad, but it's hard to get too excited since other players have also looked so good playing in the G-league, and not so good playing for the bigs.
I'm just glad he's getting some real game time in, regardless of of the high-light clips.

Jordan Mickey never looked as good in a NBA game as Williams did in his first real playing time. I actually think Brad Stevens should play him more, at least while Theis is out. He is freakishly althetic.

The Mikey comps only go so far. Williams was always a much stronger NBA talent than Mikey ever was. Much longer and more explosive. Mikey just isn't a good comp.

I agree that Williams is a much greater talent, however if we are only using the G-League as a comparison (which was kind of the point of the original message - not getting too excited about what Williams did / will do in Maine), you'd think that Mickey was a great player as well. He had some really impressive games for the Red Claws (and obviously not so much for C's).
Rather than look at what Williams is doing in Maine, I look forward to seeing what he is going to do for Boston. I do think that he has the potential to be a really good (maybe even great) player.

So it's not just The Tantalizer playing for Maine tonight--Yabs and Wanamaker have been sent "Down Maine" as well.

Williams played really well. Only had 25 mins, though.
Everytime they took him out, the Raptors 905 came back strong.

I think that's the same minute restriction he was on his first time he got sent up there. Tells us something about his knees, but I guess good news that he can at least play that much. And I am surprised Stevens didn't find him some more minutes on their West Coast trip.

they're almost identical physically and athletically. Williams is maybe an inch taller a couple inches in reach and vertical. Mickey was the superior college player. He's not just a good comp he's an excellent comp.

WIlliams is 2" taller and has an additional 2" in wingspan. WIlliams with some really great ability to move his feet for his size and of course great timing to go with the hops as well. And he has a mind for basketball. And do we have max verticals for either player? Williams the better rebounder, blocker, passer, and finisher at the rim. And of course they really don't play the same position. Rob is a center, Jordan a PF.

Exactly.

Mickey doesn't come anywhere close to comparing against Williams.
Mickey basically sucked, for the 2 years that we had him. He never even made the regular rotation.

Williams actually can play in the NBA. He'll likely be in the Rotation, by his 2nd year.
Williams is still a Rookie, though; only 1.5 months in.

Mickey was certainly good enough to be 11-12th man on an NBA roster. I don't think he 'sucked' But I think Williams has more athleticism and is something of an athletic freak. Mickey was sneaky athletic - don't get me wrong. But Williams has some jaw dropping stuff.

I could see him leapfrogging Theis and even playing instead of Baynes some of the time. While coaches don't love his style nowadays 15 years ago this guy would have been a #1 pick, IMHO.

If Mickey was that decent, why isn't he on any NBA roster at all? (After all, he is still only 24.)

mickey was great until he got fat.
but bob is a better prospect. longer, taller, more athletic. seems to have a better feel for the game defensively at least. mickey had a solid j tho, hopefully bob can work on that.
