We played 3 good quarters and saved the meltdown for the 4th quarter tonight. Too many turnovers.

Did not like Trae's shot selection to start the game, too many bad 3s, its like he was trying to win the game in the first 5 minutes of the game,  his assists are other worldly.

Heurter can play defense, needs to me more agressive looking for his shot. He can do stuff like  this:

Bembry has good energy. He has to just look for his teammates more sometimes. Not try to finish through traffic when he has 2 open teammates he could pass to.

Dang, it's the fourth quarter this time after surviving the third.

When things are tight, young players tend to make mistakes on both ends, it's normal I guess.

Trey going 0 of 7 from deep is one reason for the loss. He needs to get better either by practicing and making them, shooting only when he's more open or not keep shooting. Him going to the rim was excellent, they don't really have a shot blocker/rim protector.

Spellman is the same, going 1 of 6 from the field. He was pretty good fighting for rebounds tho.

Len and Dedmon were OK when the opponents were relaxed, once they get serious, they're exposed, need Collins back bad.

Huerter played OK, but 7 points in 32 mins, that's not replacing Prince there. Bembry unfortunately was not playing well. He looks a bit slower and with less spring than normal?

Bazemore was great in the third quarter but he's real streaky, wasn't really effective in the fourth. He needs to find a way to make shots consistently.

In a game where Lin almost couldn't miss and he played only 19 mins, that probably means LP is restricting his minutes. (besides trash time) That's good, no need to rush it. This is a good start, his shots are falling, at the rim, midrange and threes, that's very encouraging. His passing was so-so but he did make some good passes to open teammates, just that those shots didn't fall. (or Poythress can get more vertical)

Kemba/Parker/Monk (future Bridges) that could be a pretty good lineup. Monk was definitely a big reason they won in the fourth quarter.

Must win against the Knicks, tough stretch after that.

Thanks for the honesty.

While I was impressed the Hawks managed to keep the game competitive into the 4Q, I do NOT endorse starting 3 rookies weeks into their respective careers.

Too much inexperience and uncertainty.

But Huerter is gonna be special.

Walker outshines Young in point guard duel

The early game between the Hornets and Hawks was highlighted by a point guard battle featuring veteran All-Star Kemba Walker and rising rookie Trae Young. Both players had nice nights, but in the end it was Walker who not only won the battle with Young, but also helped the Hornets win the game. Walker finished with 29 points and seven assists, while Young put up 18 points and 10 assists, but turned the ball over six times.

When/how did Marvin Williams become an unheralded mainstay for the Charlotte basketball franchise?

It was fun to see the three rookies starting, but to be real, this is a game where Lin should've gotten more than 18 minutes. He was hot and confident in his stroke, and yet still limited to 18 minutes. But it seemed like LP was stuck on some pre-set minutes rotation and couldn't improvise based on who was playing well. This is one of those games where it's clear that the team is focused more on development than winning.

Defense and Turnovers killed the 4th quarter.
This was always the plan going into the season.

Yeah, I get it. I just hoped that maybe there'd be an equal balance of trying to win and develop the young players. Winning also helps player development. If people aren't playing defense and committing too many turnovers, I don't see how that leads to development.

Honestly, kinda felt like we were in control of the game until pretty late despite playing fairly poorly. If Young had an average game from 3, we win that game. He's gotta compete on defense though, especially against these other high-level points. He has a bullseye on his back so these dudes will come in motivated against him.

I'd hate to be the Hornets. Man what a 'meh' roster they have.

Lin and Trae together would be fun. LP should try it more. Most games he doesn't try it at all. And Lin has to finish this game. Made no sense to take him out. Lin's a proven game finisher anyway.
