According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Morey has packaged Brandon Knight and Marquese Chriss along with the previously proposed four future first-round picks to help get this deal pushed across the finish line.

Re: Butler has requested a trade, the saga continues
I believe the final offer that pushes this across the finish line is:
Butler for Knight, Chriss and four picks, plus Taj Gibson for Eric Gordon.
For HOU, they NEED to include Knight and Chriss, to dump those salaries. Not only are they paying luxury taxes on these deals, but they need their current payroll to be as productive as possible to beat the Warriors. Simply swapping out of Gordon for Knight should be a no go for them.
Adding in a Gordon for Taj Gibson is a win. While Gordon’s shooting really helps them, it’s their defense which is suffering. Also, when Jimmy arrives, it will reduce Gordon’s minutes, and make his $15 mil salary this year and next more onerous. Taj can help them on the court, with his ability to credibly switch defensively. Their PF position is their weakest, with the loss of Ariza and LRMAM from last year. His expiring deal is also a big plus, for financial help and a tool for Morey, including this swap should reduce, or unprotect, the 2023 and 2025 picks, which is where the real value of the deal is coming from.
For MIN, well, “for Thibs,” this alteration checks many of the boxes that Glen Taylor requested. Four picks sounds impressive, even if they are a future asset. Acquiring Gordon looks good too, since he’s a legitimate shooter who the Wolves can plug into the starting wing spot deserted by Butler. Both Gordon and Taj are paid appropriately, so it doesn’t cost them much, and is a better fit, and could allow Gorgui Dieng to recoup some of his value if he plays well again as a starter. Taj’s expiring may have more trade value, but MIN wasn’t going to have cap space anyway. MIN could also include a third team to swap out Knight and the 2019 pick for more win-now assets, such as Bazemore in ATL. I believe this can net them a $5.8 mil TPE as well, if they structure this correctly.

I don't think swapping Taj for Gordon makes the deal better, I think it makes it marginally worse.shrink wrote:I believe the final offer that pushes this across the finish line is:

If Taj for Gordon was included who gets the extra time upfront? I assume we would see some combination of Towns, Dieng, and Tolliver get the most minutes, but Chriss or KBD as the 4th?

Dig In. The offers will come. The season is cooked already (for us). Wiggins and KAT (The Future) seem mature enough to understand the situation and for the team to be successful in the future, it doesn't benefit us by taking on bloated salaries from Miami and to further strengthen the west.

I agree, and MIN should get reduced protections on the 2023 and 2025 picks because of it. But it makes the deal much better for the Rockets, and it looks like more of a win for Thibodeau, who still needs to make the playoffs after this deal. Knight alone leaves a bigger gap.

Why are Wolves fans eager to help the Rockets?
They're drowning right now and you want to throw a lifeline to a WC rival?

So make us an offer, or GTFO.
Why should the Wolves care if the Warriors or Rockets win the West? We want the best offer to help our own team, and if that threatens the Warriors, that is not our concern.
Your own Warrior selfishness is showing.

No, because it's been reported Thibs and Taylor both agree that they prefer not to trade Butler to any WC team.
So why are the fans thinking they know better?
GTFO? Do you own this place? You don't like questioning your opinions and you want to suppress it?

Can’t they offer another pick, 5 frps? I’d prefer that over Gordon (who looks awful this season anyway) it’s tank for Zion time lol

You are only here because you are scared HOU can become a rival to the Warriors. MIN needs to take the best offer to help their team, not focus on the worries of a Warriors fan. It’s embarrassing.

You really sound (Please Use More Appropriate Word).
I’m an NBA fan as well as a Warriors fan. Butler is one of the biggest stories so far this season.
If the Wolves want to wait for Houston’s core to decline before getting value from those picks 5 and 7 years out, I’d say go for it.
But I would think after committing $60 million a year to its two young players, the Wolves would not want to wait 5 years to get them help. They’re very young but you’re going to wait to see if you get a lottery pick 5 years from now on the chance that you’ll draft an instant star? Or you’re going to wait a couple of years to see if they develop into a player who could help the team?
That’s assuming the Rockets will take lottery protection out of those picks 5 and 7 years from now.

I'm not "eager" to help anyone but there isn't anything else out there right now.
And while I'm flattered anyone considers us a rival to Houston the truth is we aren't, even with Jimmy. So helping them doesn't affect us, realistically. By the time we're ready to compete Houston will likely be falling off.

The Wolves are getting no decent offers, you take the best offer you can get.

Houston gets
Jimmy butler
Houston gives knight, chriss, and 4 picks top 1 protected
Reason: they get jimmy
Minny gives jimmy and tyus (maybe 1 future first suns)
Minny gets knight, chriss, 4 picks, jackson
Reason: get rid of jimmy, gain future picks and an upside guy in josh jackson
Suns give jackson
Suns get tyus (msybe a future houston first via minny)
Unload a guy who doesnt fit fir a young pg that fits with booker and ayton.
Teague/rose
Okogie/wiggins
Wiggins/jackson
Taj/tolliver
Kat/dieng

Billups for GM and Jackson for a coach.
I like that however, will Taylor be willing to pay top dollar, to them while still paying off Thib-iso?
Mark Jackson is **** abysmal as a coach and person, absolutely not.

Re: Butler has requested a trade, the saga continues
I'd take that offer. If our new GM is a creative mind, he can make us wonder with so many resources. That is 4 FRPs, Dieng, Teague, Gordon, Knight contracts. I appreciate Thibs vision for bringing here talented prospects such as Okogie, Patton. I think it will be very important to install here an environment where young players want to be. I mean I don't think that many top draft prospects will want to even attend workouts for this team in this situation. We need to show that we can develop young players, not ruin their careers (see KAT this season). So it should be completely different approach and I expect huge turnaround for this team. Yes, I wish we have a chance to compete this season, but it is not real. I think Taylor needs to accept reality and trade Butler to HOU. Either way I don't believe that HOU can be competitive longer than GSW. Last year they had almost ideal chemistry and fit. This year, even with Butler they are not at that level. Ariza, Mbah, Tucker played great defense. Now they all regressed.shrink wrote:I believe the final offer that pushes this across the finish line is:

Hey... I would be happy of bring some competitive justice while we comeback to form. It maybe only be topped by the pleasure of see Jimmy sharing locker room along John Wall and Dwight Howard.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
