This is actually not a bad idea if we can get Russell on a cheaper contract. I'm not against keeping this backcourt intact but not at a price tag that is obscene.

I like Russell and would not mind him staying but not at a high price. LeVert is clearly the lead guard on this team. We can't be paying Russell lead guard money when he's clearly not.

As of now, I think he'll wind up with Lavine/Gordon money, which on an escalating contract could start around $16mil.

I don't like that with Crabbe sucking up 18 mil in cap.

Crabbe would only have one remaining year. I think Crabbe gets moved at some point anyway.

Yeah but for what? I think Crabbe's biggest value is as an expiring. Which means we would have to take salary back, no?

Either we dump him at the deadline or draft time, or he gets traded in a deal for a better, more expensive player.

To dump him will cost a pick.

He's just a slow starter coming off an injury he'll look better in a month than he does now...I think/hope.

What do you guys think about this one?

Vucevic (12.75M expiring), Ross (10.5M expiring) and Simmons (only 1M of his salary is GTD) for Russell (RFA end of year), Hollis-Jefferson (RFA end of year) and Crabbe (18.5M next year). No picks involved.

Magic get a PG that they may have been looking to chase in free agency anyway. They add an overpaid (but desperately needed) 3PT shooter on the wing as well as a young combo forward to play off the bench.

Nets clear Crabbe's 18.5M contract off the books, maximizing their 2019 cap space to legitimately go chase two max free agents at the expense of two guys they likely are going to let walk anyway.

Magic eat the short term loss on Crabbe $$ wise, but acquire two guys that can grow with their core while keeping their 2020 FA window open depending on how much/if they pay Russell and Hollis-Jefferson.

Hard quick fast no. better off letting RHJ and Russell expire if they arent worth more then dumping 1 year of crabbe presently and hope they raise their value between now and the deadline.

it shouldnt be too hard to move crabbe salalry, or half of crabbes salary if we need to.

the only reason we would need to move crabbe is if 2 stars want to come here (Kahwi/kyrie or whatever) and if thats the case then we can use our first round assets to move crabbe worst case.

otherwise keep crabbe, let him expire of give him away to anyone will to pay short money for a shooter

I'm not sure the Nets will part with Russell to unload Crabbe yet. That sounds like a deadline deal at best, but I still think they hold on to Russell & see what the market bears in RFA. He's an insurance policy right now, and Crabbe could, at worst, be dumped with the Denver pick later. I think the Nets make a Russell deal if it returns an asset.

That cap hold though is a serious issue. The Nets have to be thinking about how that could hamper things in the summer.

how is the cap hold an issue. we can renounce him the second a high priced FA agrees to a contract with us.

Crabbe is much more of a hidnerance to our cap the russell

i dont think it will cost much to dump crabbe at the deadline. some playoff team that had a bad first half or a team with injuries to shooters would be interested. i can see a deal where we give up Crabbe and a 2nd and take back someone with only say 6 million on a long term deal netting us 12.5 million in cap of the 18.5 million crabbe is due.

and if we do nee to dump crabbe and it takes a first you do it... because the only reason you would NEED to dump him is if 2 stars have committed to come here.

its going to be an easy decision with crabbe. the tougher decisions will be RHJ/Dinwiddie and the minor moves needed to create that first max slot

I would reach out to the Sixers about Crabbe after the deal they made for Butler. Not sure what they can offer as way of taking on his salary though. But they are clearly a team in need of shooting

It would take Wilson Chandler's expiring and probably TJ McConnell to do it. We really have no reason to help them though unless they give us a protected 1st. I'd rather have 3 2019 1st round picks instead of Crabbe on the books another year.

A 1st would be great, not sure what TJ contract is though. But I'm inclined to dump Crabbe if it doesn't add significant long-term money even if we don't get a 1st back.

So both expiring contracts for Crabbe? Yeah I'd do it on a heartbeat.

More minutes for Napier, Graham (when he gets back and we know Kenny loves him), even Musa if push comes to shove.

yeah but I doubt Philly sends back draft compensation since they're giving us salary relief. I would do it just to get Crabbe off of the books.

Yes but the extra pick is just icing on the cake. We're not a ring contender this year. The flexibility we get from dumping Crabbe is absolutely worth it.

We already have two many bodies as it is.
