We've been waiting for him to come over since Hinkie drafted him over Doug McDermott.

I am happy with the deal at this point but we definitely paid more than this to get Jimmy. It was a gamble that we lost. That will happen, glad we took the chance

Both are very good players. Wolves need to trade Gibson now if they can. We can't have those two fighting for the minutes.

Taj probably more likely to be bought out than traded.

No Reason to buy out a VERY GOOD player like Taj.

I just want to make sure I understand you correctly. You would trade Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen, and Kris Dunn for Robert Covington, Dario Saric, and a 2nd round pick?

I hate people that think this is a direct comparison,

First, nobody new how players would increase or decline at the time of the trade.

Second, MIN traded for two years of Butler. MIN is trading ONE year of Butler.

I am just glad this will stop you delusional Philadelphia fans from telling everyone that he is going to come to play in the NBA for you guys. Big power-play by Dario to force Philadelphia's hand like this, it is crazy how everyone is just forcing their way to Minnesota nowadays. Really makes us feel like big-game players.

That was going to be true just because of the two years Butler had on his contract when Wolves got him vs. now the one year, 65 games or so he has left

Yes, he is. One thing you're going to learn is that Dario feels obligated to play for his national team every single offseason. That means he always comes into a season looking tired and then slowly gets it back as the season progresses. The past two games have looked encouraging.

So what would you trade me for Eddy Curry today? Do you think trade value changes over time?

That would be apples to apples. This isn’t about fan loyalty.

This is an absolute homerun trade for Min. We are a MUCH better team today than we were yesterday and are set up a ton better for the future. Never expected to do this well for butler. Awesome trade

People who don't like this deal don't understand that Defense is half of the game. RoCo is an all nba 1st team defender. Wasn't Saric first team all rookie?

Those are two of the top 60 players in the league on incredibly team friendly deals. You hated Butler and now you hate the incredibly good trade we got for him. RoCo is first team All NBA defender.

You are flat out insane. Covington is either first or second in the NBA in combined steals and blocks. Right up with Gobert.

Ugly Duckling wrote:Here's a somewhat non-biased, objective perspective. Saric is a beast. You guys will be happy for years with him. Taj is starting to decline, so you needed a 4. Covington is an elite defender, but overpaid because he was shooting lights out before inking that extension. You had to take the hit there in order to get a young Saric for prime Butler. Philly has a slight edge, especially since you essentially traded Markkanen, LaVine and Dunn for Saric and Covington, but Butler wanted out. All in all, I think Thibs got a decent return. Butler doesn't have many more elite years in the tank and the last couple of the supermax will be overpays

Covington is also a beast. I'm not worried about his shooting. First team all NBA defender.

He has pre-caveman Ricky Rubio syndrome, good to know. Jimmy Butler is such a huge get for you guys, it'll be really interesting to see how it all comes together. Assuming it works out (I don't see why it wouldn't, he is going to be insanely fired up), this is the kind of move that legitimately could propel you guys to the Finals. You guys definitely are going to need some shooters though, I am thrilled Landry is playing so well for you guys, but Philadelphia is definitely going to need some shooters to round out the roster. Hopefully, with time, Wilson Chandler rounds into that role with health.

Good luck!

Oh... you want to use hindsight. Gotcha!

Do I believe Teague/Rose, Wiggins, Covington, Saric/Gibson, Towns is better then Teague/Dunn, LaVine, Wiggins, Markannen, Towns, yes I do. People complete forget there's only 1 basketball on the court and defense comes into play also.

LaVine is a scorer on a bad team... I'd be ok with him as a scoring 6th man, not so much as a starter.

You also need to calculate in not being on year 15 of no playoffs.

The ceiling of this team has just dropped with this Butler trade, a good .500 or a little above .500 team is in the future for this franchise now.

Good dealing, if Jimmy Butler cleans up his act, you guys will think he is awesome; he was for us before all of this nonsense happened.

I'm curious about the board dynamics. Were there 'Team Butler' and 'Team Kat' camps, before and after the trade?

Kind of, at first I was kind of in the middle, but after hearing of his back-stage antics (it got out of control, I can't wait until it gets fully leaked so we all can learn how bad it really got), along with him starting to throw games, it got out of control and I became pretty anti-Jimmy. Some people agree with Jimmy's perspective, but dislike how everything went down. More people were "Team KAT", which is expected given the trade, but I think everybody was ready for the trade to happen, even with our disagreements.

Is Dario going to regain his magic? I have watched a lot of Philadelphia this year and am really concerned about him, he looks pretty lost. Is part of that because there were too many cooks in the kitchen and he just couldn't get in rhythm?
Saric started crappy, but has been the Saric of the second half of last year recently. I'm not concerned at all.

ProcessTrusta wrote:Covington and Saric will be popular players in Minnesota. They are hard working guys who make sacrifices for the betterment of the team. Neither are stars, obviously, but are good quality players. Covington is a very good defender who can shoot the 3. Not going to put the ball on the floor much or attack the rim, makes dumb mistakes at times, and his shooting is inconsistent. He will have months where he is red hot from downtown, and then have a month where he is ice cold. That's what frustrated Sixers fans. But he plays hard every night, always brings it on D, and doesn't play scared.

Saric is a smart player. Crafty around the rim. Solid shooter, not a great one(though he's been bad this season). It will improve when he gets his legs under him. Willing defender, can hit from mid range. Is a great locker room guy, very good passer.

You'll enjoy watching them.

Not stars maybe, but I'm just fine with a first team All NBA defender in RoCo and a young excellent stretch four in Saric.
