Saric should start and I believe he will.

Not from the beginning, I'd expect he'll come off the bench till Thibs moves Gibson(unless he has some offers already).

It will take a couple weeks whether we trade Gibson or not.

Capspace is valuable too, you know.
We won't be in position to have significant cap space.

I don't consider losing him a con of this trade, but this is wrong. Fairly certain we would've had early Bird rights even with declining his option.

Re: Jimmy Butler Traded to Philadelphia (Discussion Continued)
Great deal by the Wolves and should set us up for the long term.Still think that this season is a loss and we won't make the playoffs but moving on we have a core to build around in Towns,Rose,Okogie,Saric,Covington & Wiggins. You add a new coach another 1st round draft pick(possibly a top ten pick depending on how bad this season goes) and a few bench player and we should be right back into the playoff mix.
Ideally the starting five moving forward this season would be Towns,Saric,Covington,Okogie & Rose with Wiggins coming off the bench as a super 6th man(Highly doubt that with the money he's being payed)and then look to move Taj,Teague,Deing and Jones during the season or after.

Don think much of Covington or pick. Bad trade, but good to move on. Now trade Teague and Taj.

I have Sixers winning the trade by a large margin. They got a top 15 player who is likely to resign without putting up a top 30 player. But I think it was the best offer out there. Both players are positive values and there aren't any bad contracts coming back

This is correct to a degree. We would have his Bird-Rights, so we could sign him over the cap, but the maximum teams can offer players (after they decline their option) is capped at the amount they declined the option for (Mario Hezonja is a good example of this, as he couldn't be retained by Orlando last year).
Doesn't matter in this case, since Minnesota would have only offered a minimum deal at most anyways, but that is an interesting little quirk in the CBA to prevent teams from declining the fourth year of team-options (because of Bird-Rights).

That may be true, but nobody will be using Bird rights on Patton.

Re: Jimmy Butler Traded to Philadelphia (Discussion Continued)
I am happy with the trade. I wanted more, but at same time I dont think the ideal trade was out there. We get two guys on good contracts that give us a young core moving forward.
I do wonder what the rotation looks like with everyone healthy. Saric starting would move Gibson to the 2nd unit which isnt a bad thing, but then where does Tolliver get his minutes as i dont see him playing much SF. Wiggins at SG puts Okogie on the 2nd which would likely mean Rose at PG and less Tyus, IMO. Obviously roster wasnt totally balanced to begin withand trade was going to change that. Its going to be interesting.

Yup! This is the deal I mentioned early on as my top choice. I don't even care that we didn't get a FRP.

You spend $20 grand on a car. You drive it around for a year, and it takes you to some wonderful places you haven’t been in a long time.
The next year you sell the car. Do you complain if the buyer won’t give you $20 grand for it?
When you compare Zach, Dunn and #7 directly to Covington, Saric, pick it means you don’t understand
1. That the values of players change over time, and we don’t know those perfect values ahead of time
2. Two years of Butler does not equal One year of Butler.
Oh I get it, trust me. Jimmy Butler isn't a car and you didn't trade for him to get a year of his service. He's also in his prime so the car example is extremely poor. That trade was made with the hope to retain his services for the long-term. You don't give up multiple lottery picks (players) to play someone for a year. Or maybe you do, and that's why you're the Timberwolves *shrug*. I genuinely feel bad for ya'll, Jimmy Butler is a Grade-A piece of **** and you got screwed because of it.
RoCo and Saric are superb. Saric and Markkanen play the same position. Give me Saric. RoCo an all NBA defender vs LaVine a gifted offensive player who plays matador D. Give me RoCo.
So you take Clint Capela over Towns as well? No team would trade Markkanen/LaVine/Dunn for Covington/Saric/2nd rounder. Minnesota is no where near good enough to argue fit either.

If we had two legit stars already and we were (to some extent) competing the return would be ok.
The PROS:
- the saga has come to an end
- Saric and RoCo are a good fit age wise
- both are useful players on good value contracts
- Wiggins switched back to SG
The CONS:
- not sure how the fit is, especially defensively. RoCo is a good defender while Saric isn't. Is he going to replace Taj short term and mid term?
- Starting 5 would only have one good defender.
- Saric might be expensive in 1,5 years
- no FR picks coming back, extremely short sighted move
- loss of Patton could haunt us big time eventually (we could have resigned Patton for the minimum instead)
Which of the reported deals were you in favor of?

Assuming low protections on the multiple FRP I was clearly in favor of the HOU deal and build around Towns, Okogie and the FRPs.
The lack of midterm strategy and vision is what really p***** me off with Thibs as GM. I'm ready to eat crow if all of the sudden the team turns it around and starts playing winning basketball again, but at this point a highly doubt it.

While you're right officially I think that it will be very difficult for us to sign him now that we traded him. It just feels like an unneccessary giveaway talent wise even though I know that this move was solely financially motivated (gotta admit I'm still a huge Patton believer even with the three foot injuries).

Re: Jimmy Butler Traded to Philadelphia (Discussion Continued)
The Wolves got two starters off arguably the third best team in the East. A team that looked dangerous, albeit inexperienced, in the playoffs last year. Both share the ball. Both rebound. Both play defense, with RoCo being well above average at it. And Saric is only 24 years old. As much as I loved Butler's intensity, clearly it was time to move on. Here's to new beginnings!
