Can we stretch Reggie Jackson?

Post#1 » by El Chivo » Sun Nov 11, 2018 10:31 pm

He can't stay on the court nowadays and we pay him big money until 2020. What about stretching his contract and find a decent point guard?

Why prolong the agony? This team isn't doing much with him or without him.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

How dare you?!? With a couple of simple moves and nothing more than a roll of 15 on a 24-sided die, thus giving this team +9 basketball strength, a championship is a given.

I make my saving throw. I disbelieve. :) Forget the vorpal swords and fireball spells... I'd really like to get a PG who could defend at position. *sigh*

Just wait till the end of next season and we'll be completely rid of him. There's really not much point in saving money over the next couple years at the expense of money further down the road. We're not going to be able to do anything for the next 2 seasons at the very least anyway.

And realistically, it's not like he's the piece standing between us and signing an impact free agent this summer.

Next season we can make big moves, we will have Leuer, Galloway and Reggie expirings and probably GR3 as well. SJ and Ellenson will be gone, so in a couple of years we could start being relevant again.

We're bound to sign someone like Bazemore for 15 mil a year I can see it from now

This is why I don't see why we wouldn't trade our expirings for a guy whose contract ends with Leuer Galloway and RJ. Might as well no?

Hmmm stretch Jackson so we can make a rushed desperate move for whatever overpaid half washed up pg is available to chase a first round playoff exit. Sounds great, maybe Jackson can go hang with Josh Smith who were paying till 2020.

An easy thing to say when it's not your money.

Not that Gores has exactly been frugal with his cash, but it's still not that simple.

I would like to see Zack Lofton replace Jackson in the line up. I dont know if Lofton is the answer but I do know Jackson isn't.

Who are you thinking of? Lee or Korver, someone like that?

Ya definitely. Would prefer Lee cause he's younger and a 3andD guy.
I know we're not winning a championship but if we're stuck cap wise until RJ+LG+Leuer expire we might as well improve ourselves. I really think NY would give us a pick too since they're trying to be big players this upcoming summer.

Tbh maybe if Reggie stretched more often he wouldn't get injured as often.

Seriously though, there wont be any immediate benefit to stretching Reggie and we'd just get worse as a team. Rather, his contract would be on our books (albeit less per year) for several years instead of letting him play out his contract. Next year he is a very tradeable expiring.

Our problems a team go well beyond Reggie. We have a general lack of talent outside of Dre & Blake.

Why? And that's a serious question.

To acquire more talent to our talentless team.
To have an even bigger amount of expiring contracts for 2019-2020 season that we can use in a trade for more draft picks/maybe another player or two that expires same time as Dre or Blake. Repeat process.
