Take a Chance on Markelle Fultz

Post#1 » by BlueBalls » Wed Nov 14, 2018 4:57 pm

This is the move an org like this one needs to make.

Sixers are practically begging for a trade partner.

He'd come relatively cheap.

He's still got a very high ceiling and his basement can't be any lower than his current level of play.

This team is not going to the playoffs this year and we're desperate for a good PG. There is also a lot less pressure on him to perform here than in Philly on a team with fans that are thinking title.

Unless their asking price is silly, which it will not be, there is absolutely no reason not to explore this.

How do you know the sixers are begging for a trade partner? How do u know he is cheap? Don't u know they are labeled as trust the process? They made a huuuge mistake on fultz by trading up for him. He is at his lowest market price, u are right about that, but u know what? The sixers knows that too! Why would they trade a 2nd year player on rookie contract. Maaaaybe in the off-season if they need to free cap space. But no way it's gonna happen during the season imo

I think he has severe anxiety problems which are affecting him. I wouldn't do it unless is like a salary dump type of deal, nothing of major value.

They definitely want space because he's not worth the $10 million in cap space next summer. They have motivation to trade him by December because they can get a player on an expiring contract who could actually help them this season and set them up well for the future.

The value is a tough thing, but their new GM didn't make the move to get him.

I'd be willing to take a chance on him if the asking price is modest. He looked like a surefire star in college, clearly his issues are anxiety related. A smaller market with less expectations would be a good place to start. Plus he'd have a good mentor in AG to show him relaxation techniques and coping methods for anxiety.

A Sixers fan on the Magic subreddit said that they would want to do Fultz for J. Simmons and Grant, which I think would be a laughably bad trade for them. Unfortunately I'm guessing the Sixers front office thinks higher of Fultz than that.

The danger in bringing in someone like Fultz is that it might give the FO a reason to bypass a PG in FA or the Draft because they "want to see" what they have in Fultz.

If we have a disciplined FO that would continue to search for their future PG, then I would be ok with it so long as it doesn't include one of BIG or picks.

That's a concern I hadn't considered and your point is well taken. Still, I think this FO is savvy enough to know that, regardless of what they may or may not have in Fultz, this org still needs to take the best guard available at its draft slot. Unless Fultz gets here and immediately becomes the 2nd coming of Kemba Walker.

There's no reason not to if he can be had for cheap. If Fultz turns it around we found a major piece, if not he helps get the tank back on track.

Exactly. Thats where Im at which is why I dont see a deal being made. As bad as he looks I cant imagine them moving a guy they pick #1 for Ross or Evan. They would want more. They might want to swap Issac for him and Id pass on that. If they would do it for Ross or Evan then sure trade for him and see what happens

I would take a chance on Fultz no questions asked.

If he hits, it's an absolute home run as you've acquired a high lotto talent for practically nothing.

If he doesn't work out, you're not really out anything.

He needs to get away from the 76rs as they're in win now mode. A team like us would take him out of the spotlight and let him develop without all the attention and pressure. I reckon they'd like to have Ross as he can give them a bit of punch off the bench and he's an expiring.

It all depends on the price, if it's for vuc or evan and guys like dj/simmons/ross i do it. No way i give up a first or isaac/ag/bamba. I do think the 76ers value him more than that though but the hope would be they realize they need to add more veteran bench pieces to that team to compete and with the way the east is this season adding a package like vucevic/evan and a vet like simmons/dj could give them a boost. We all deride evan/vuc here but they still produce at an efficient rate, are pretty young and could be sixth man of the year candidates on a good team. Adding something like vucevic and ross to their bench would be a big boost to that teams hopes of winning now. That's a lot of offense coming in off the bench and vucevic when motivated has had stretches of looking like a borderline all star

I really liked fultz out of college and he's an amusing player as a person, no idea what is going on with him but i imagine 76ers and other teams in the league have more info than us and will know more than we know on what his value is and what his issues are. He could very easily be a major bust and some people would make fun of us for trading starting level/above average bench guys for him but it's a risk worth taking if we only give up guys who aren't doing anything for us long term anyway.

I'm all for trading anyone outside of BIG or a FRP for Fultz. Literally anyone else.

Low risk high reward situation here, if he pans out, we could be looking at a championship squad in 2-3 seasons. If he doesnt, we're basically in the same exact position were in right now.

The OKC pick or a heavily protected first that dissolves into a second round pick is fine for me as a sweetener.

I still believe Fultz can be very good... even special.

It’s all in his head. That isn’t easy to fix but the raw talent is there.

I think they will accept a Ross for Fultz trade. But would we? I'd prefer to keep Ross but he's also a FA next summer. i think he likes it here, but who knows what kind of offers he gets

I will trade almost anything else for him though outside of BIG. I'd include a 1st but has to be lotto protected

Sixers wouldn't give up Fultz for Leonard or Butler what makes you think their asking price won't include one of B.I.G and a lotto pick?

He ain't worth what it will cost. Besides Kemba Walker, Eric Bledsoe, Malcolm Brogdon, Goron Dragic are all UFA and Rozier and D.Russell will be worth less in trade. We can get our PG at the end of the season.
