This past weekend's games

Post#1 » by 34Celtic » Mon Aug 13, 2007 12:27 pm

I was in Vermont, didn't catch a second of anything. I read through the threads and got some info on Joba (beasting all over the AL it seems like), Giambi, ARod, etc.

Can someone give me a detailed scouting report? How did Pettitte look? Melky seems to be on a roll. Jorge is injured? Why haven't we heard anything from Jeter...is he struggling?

Cmaff?

Pettitte was sharp. He only got into trouble in the 7th when he had the bases loaded with no outs. He escaped giving up one run. His pickoff move was working quite well against the Indians as well.

Posada had a stiff neck all weekend. Molina did a great job covering for him as he got a couple hits and he was phenomenal behind the plate. I believe if it was the playoffs Posada would have been playing.

Joba is amazing. He struck out 4 guys in 2 innings. Made them look like little leaguers. I believe I read somewhere that someone on the Indians said it was the best stuff they had seen all year.

Giambi had a pinch hit home run and he hit one yesterday as well. He seems a lot less bulky and more comfortable on the base paths. Also he seems to be hitting a lot more towards 3rd base than before. He got a hit going that way and a couple fouls down the line. However, both of his home runs were in deep right.

Arod is pretty unbelievable. 3 home runs in 3 games. 2 of them were laser shots to deep center. Although he didn't do much else the whole series.

Melky and Cano are doing great. All those people who said Melky didn't have enough power to be a regular player are eating crow. He is on pace to hit 11 this year so 15-16 would not be a stretch for next year. A 23 year old CF with great defense, a rocket arm, great clubhouse personality, hitting for average, stealing some bases and hitting 15-16 homers a year. I wouldn't mind that at all. Cano is ridiculously hot too. They just couldn't get him out all series. I think it was Friday or Saturday Michael Kay gave a stat that he was 46 of his last 100. Then you add the plate discipline he seems to have discovered and he is coming around as well.

Jeter was just slumping but he had some key hits. I'd say he will be fine for the Orioles. -Jitpal

good work Jitpal. Yeah Cano and Melky are scorching. Cano seems like he is going to be a second half hitter his entire career...he did the same thing last year. He is hitting .462 I believe in August...yiikes

Theres no way hes gaining 40 points. To get his avg to .360 he would have to hit .472 through his last 45 games (85-180)

Good pitching performances all around, everybody from Hughes to Mussina to Pettitte were terrific in Cleveland. Joba was amazing and Mo once again got the job done (twice).
