Yeah this is a good line of thinking when trying to give Magic fans hope for the future. We're not going to tank this year unless we get overrun with injuries, so pushing for the playoffs to show future free agents that we're becoming a more desirable destination is the current play. We will need to nail one of these upcoming mid lotto picks and make a good FA signing or trade to get this whole organization back into a winning culture, which Weltman has done in the past.

The problem with this strategy is that Toronto has always been pretenders. No one ever puts them in legitimate consideration to be NBA Champions and I feel like they are at their peak of what they will ever become. After this year, Kawhi is moving on and the Raptors will be left with questionable future.

You need stars to win in this league. The honest fan simply has to tell themselves that the only way the Magic are getting out of this is that they will have to hit on finding a star with a late lottery pick and get lucky on someone who no one saw coming.

There are only 2 ways a treadmill team can find a star.

1. The smart option: bottom out and tank PROPERLY

2. The dumb option: slum it in the teens at the ass end of the lotto/1st round cannon fodder zone for an indefinite amount of seasons and pray for a miracle or dumb luck to drop a star into our lap like Giannis, Mitchell, Jokic, Hayward, Gobert, Butler etc.

and continue adding 2nd/3rd tier guys expecting different results, finding different scapegoats along the way.

Surprised this is still a debate or even a point of contention.

Philly built their team completely out of doing this properly and are legitimate contenders in the east now. Like it or not, they have way more value in assets than Orlando. The Magic wouldn’t even need to do this full on for as long, just properly once or twice now that they have Isaac and Bamba.

This is interesting

Only reason I can think why it was so important for them to correct this is if Vuc was coming up in trade discussions

I think if you have an injury, you have to list it on the injury report.
I guess he should have said bumps and bruises.

He said they're "a little bit beat up" from playing 8 games in 13 days. He never said injuries either... just "minor things" with some guys. Robbins' mistake.

So what do we do with Vucevic?

His value must be at an all time high right now and if he keeps playing this way he is going to be chasing a bigger deal this offseason where we risk paying him based on a contract year?

If they get blown away with an offer, they should trade him.

If the offers are terrible, they should hang onto him for the season.

The Magic can shop around in free agency for other positions and circle back to Vucevic later potentially. Or they can shake his hand, thank him for his service and hand the spot over to Bamba.

I don't expect them to move him just to move him though.

Re-sign him and trade Bamba for a PG.

And if he's going to average 18/11/3 on 54/43/75 splits with +8 net rating the rest of the season, then they should absolutely bring him back.

That net differential was awful, like worst in the league type awful. Now the overall differential has been sliced more than half. I think it's been clear for me, the better the offense plays the better the defense is. If the offense plays with purpose suddenly that changes everything.
