Why doesn't it make sense to keep Vuc until Bamba learns how to play like him then switch Bamba to the starting position & Vuc to the bench? That's how you develop a consistent winning system.

I guess it's more about salary.
Vučević won't be cheap.
I assume we talk about $20M a year now.
That would mean that 3 Magic centers would earn around $45M in next year.
Sure Mozgov is exp. deal but still lot of money.
Also Bamba being backup for whole lenght of rookie contract might rub him in wrong way.

There's no way he gets $20 million a year. Max we would offer is probably around is 2 year $24 million contract

I agree, while he is a very good player, no team is going to make him a center piece of their offense when the trend is perimeter players. I could see anywhere from 9-12M a year.

47 players right now make over $19 M a year, acting like he won't get $18-20 M offer is silly given names you can find on that list.
George Hill, Jabari Parker, Whiteside,Gordon, Ibaka, Gallinari, Ryan Anderson, Adams, Millsap ,Barnes, Batum, Gasol are some of the names who are getting that money right now.
2019 FA is filled with teams with cash and not enough big names, it's perfect storm for somebody like him to cash in.
He is 28 years old, paying him 3 years $70M is more than fair offer from both parties ( i assume Clippers, Atlanta, Knicks, Kings , Lakers, Hornets , Peles ) . Just some of teams that might have interest in him. Dude is being one of the best centers in whole league right now, that comes with nice price tag in FA.

And because of some of those players you listed, he isn't going to get it. He may get 35 for 2 years, but with the likes of FA this year, teams you listed will be wanting a bit more of a star for 20M a year.
Durant, DeRozen, Kemba, Butler, Thompson, Boogie, DeAndre, Whiteside, Porzingis, to name a few will be paid well before Vuc.
Vuc is clearly a 2nd at best tier FA.
I hope we give him a 4yr 40M declining contract, 14/10/8/8. This would fit nicely when we need to resign Bamba.

Dude . You know better than this.
In league where Steven Adams makes $25M you think second best center from conference will take your $10M offer?
Guy never got payed in his life, being 28 years old, playing like legit allstar
That all stacks up into one nice gif

And when it comes to "team getting smarter", Kevin Love this year signed 4 years $120M contract.
Also vučević himself said this
“As far as I’m concerned, I plan on being here until the end of the year and then we’ll see what happens in free agency. If we can agree on everything, I would like to stay. But we’ll see.”

That's why we need to re-sign him and this way increase his value. Bamba is not ready to be a starter at this point.
How does resigning Vuc increase his value?
He wouldn't be an expiring contract, he would be a good center locked in a team friendly deal.

I think that 20mi/year for 4-5 years is fair.
Also, Vuc doesn't rely on physical skills, so he should keep playing in a higher level for a longer period (even more now that he expanded to 3pt plays). I can see him playing an Arvydas Sabonis role.

Yeah, I agree, Vuc is going to be looking to get paid next year.
I can't blame him, I just don't want it to be here.

When those guys signed those deals, is when the Cap jumped. That was pure luck.
I think he's more like - Jusuf Nurkic: Agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal to stay with the Portland Trail Blazers.
- Derrick Favors: Agreed to re-sign with the Utah Jazz on a two-year, $36 million deal.
Jokic got a max deal, and DeAndre Jordan got a 1 year for 22M.
Vuc is good, but he's more in the Nurkic/Favors tier.

Only time willl tell i just can't see how he would sign $12M contract again in league where 19 nba centers make more than $15M a year.
As it stands right now 13 teams have below $90M in books for next year, (according to basketball reference ) cap projection is around $110M, luxury cap $132M, it means FA will get tasty for players.

No, that's how you mismanage your cap space by spending starter dollars on a bench player.

What do you think he's been the last 4 years? Now he's only older.
If you think Vuc is going to be cheap AND also be an attractive trade asset with a new contract, then you're just wrong.

I'm on the Pro Vuc side, and I hope he gets what he can. The places he'd fit the best in, I'm not sure they'll have the $$.
I really don't want to lose him, but at those $$$ we could just have Ed Davis backing up Bamba next year.

Re: Official Speculation Thread ‘18-19’: XIX: Rise of the BIG
Honestly, I kid about resigning Vuc on here a lot but I don't really see the harm in resigning him to a 1-year deal this offseason. Im not in a particular rush to throw our 20-year-old rookie into the fire, and Vuc has taken a step forward in my eyes this year which has been unexpected but welcomed. Now is it acceptable for Bamba to log 9 minutes in a game like he did the other night? No, it's not and if we do bring Vuc back on a 1 yr deal we will really need to start integrating Bamba into the offense more next year and giving him a bigger role on the team.
