Adam Silver just said Doncic is incredible. Should we care what he thinks?

Re: Luka Dončić Discussion
When he gets in NBA shape he's going to be insane. He's chubby and a little soft right now. 2 years in a real conditioning program and shedding his teen fat will do wonders.
Zenzibar wrote:Nevertheless, Payton is not a finished product yet and unless the team moves him in a couple of weeks, I anticipate him trending upward with this coaching staff.

Unless he hits the rookie wall, Luka is a lock for RoY. His efficiency has been through the roof.

Luka won’t hit rookie wall, at least not in a way usually rookies hit this wall. He has been through way to much through his career till now and he has experienced probably everything that are usually biggest factors for hitting rookie wall:
- playing 80+ games season, three or four games per week, with a lot of travel between games;
- opponets starting to make game plans for him;
- putting best defensive players and playing hard, dirty to stop him;
- media attention, star treatment...
All that has Luka already done through his career. And it won’t be something new for him.
For sure, maybe ho won’t play so constantly till end of the season, but on the other hand I do believe he will have at least similar numbers if not better as now at the end of the season.
It will be very important if Dallas will be in play for PO deep or even till the end of the regular season. Luka thrive if he plays for something. He plays much worse if the games have no meaning. So his numbers will depend on that. I can’t imagine him in team that would tank on purpose.
I’m also really interesting in next Dallas game against Lakers. In first game Luka was admiring LeBron, at least till last quarter. But in next game against them Luka will come to the game with mission to beat LeBron on court...

Yes he can get tunnel vision and put up plenty of ill advised shots, but he is not the guy that just goes iso and just throws up shot after shot like say Wes has been doing. And I could easily see him being a good shooter with another 1 or 2 off seasons working on his shot, hell he's currently shooting 40% from 3. The playmaking and decision making is something some PG's don't really figure out for years, so to me the fact that he isn't constantly forcing up bad high volume shots game after game is a good thing, because it shows restraint, and that there's hope he's understanding that decision making is something you don't force. The one thing I really wish he'd do is be more aggressive initiating contact so he'd get to the line more.
I would like to explore DSJ in an attack mode ‘Westbrook’-esque type role. I don’t want him over dribbling or not sharing the like Russ, but DSJ doesn’t put pressure on the defense as much as i think he could.
I still don’t understand why we don’t run the Devin Harris sets for DSJ. That should be automatic points.

He might get winded though, he could become a step slower, his percentages could fall. It happened last season in the second half...

It happened last season but his usage rate in Real was even higher than in Dallas. Besides that, in Dallas there is far less pressure than in Madrid where they were competing for every possible title. There was also the issue of the whole team playing like crap for a couple of months and Luka was the only guy who kept them in within striking distance so that they had a solid PO position. If he did not play the way he did from October to January, Real would be in danger to miss playoffs completely.
This year the situation is completely different altough I think that he will definitely have a period where he will need to rest a few games. The numbers he is putting up will be hard to sustain and I expect a drop off but on the other hand whenever I doubted him, he always proved me wrong in the long run so I do not bet against him anymore....

Second in the league, that's big. Pretty sure Doncic was one of the top if not the top guy in points per transition last season as well. All he needs are bunch of guys who can run (including bigs and Mavs have bigs who can actually run well in transition). Average athleticism is not important when there is so much space, it's all about decision-making and execution.
His rebounding, however, has been better than expected, and he's using it as a catalyst to get the Mavericks out in transition, where they're among the best in the league in efficiency (second in the NBA at 1.188 points per possession, according to Synergy Sports Tech). Doncic uses his size and skill to either set up teammates or finish himself when they're out on the break.

The rebounding is not at all surprising. Doncic has great timing and has that ability to predict where the ball is going to end up after missed shots. Thats huge, not everyone has it. He can position himself correctly even before the ball hits the rim and many times it seem like the ball simply falls into his hands. If DAJ wasnt so desperate for numbers, Luka would be averaging even more rebounds.

#13 offense
#9 defense
The Mavs are the last year's Pacers. Wouldn't surprise me if they finish with 42-46 wins.

I am not sad about SA loss I am about the Atlanta and Phoenix one, especially Atlanta one, I think that particular game was a real throw away.
Lakers, SA games, one they barely got back into it so I ll just forget the Wes. MAthews blunder and SA is SA at home court its an accomplishment to even get an OT

Doncic's 2nd attempts to retire is coming. LAL vs DAL are on the show. LBJ gets a triple double and school Doncic in last matchup. It's good to see where the team is at after a really significant stretch.

Yeah he might go into a "fan mode" again when he sees LBJ
