Re: RJ Barrett
Not sure what I'm more disgusted in at the moment. RJ's tunnel vision and unbelievably basic level of shot creation in the half court which reared its ugly head the last 4-5 possessions.
Or K for not calling a freaking play or maybe giving one of the other top 5 picks a try, or Tre who was clutch all game. That was horrible.

Still like barret he did well to contribute to the comeback with some good baskets but that stuff at the end was terrible hopefully this is a good humbling and learning experience for him

Re: RJ Barrett
First time watching in a full game vs. Zags. Incredible in the open court, a different species really. He reminds me of Kent Bazemore doing everything else. From the inefficiency and trying to do too much.
I don't see how he makes his teammates better. I don't know, it's just one game.

Re: RJ Barrett
Supremely disappointed with Barrett thus far. Coming into college, I expected a great all-around player. A player with great defense, who seeks to make plays and understands efficiency. Instead, he's been a player looking to score with tough shots. Very disappointing defense, lackluster playmaking, lack of awareness on the court. Looks great in the open court but everything else? Meh.
If this is the true Barrett, then he'll drop considerably on my board. This kind of play and approach just isn't going to cut it.

Re: RJ Barrett
The part that was even worse for RJ in today's game over the last minute of the game, was his defense. He played horrible defense off the ball and was atrocious on the ball

Re: RJ Barrett
Another thing stood out to me. Rui couldn't keep Zion in front of him today. Especially in the 2nd half Zion had no problem creating space for himself. RJ on the other hand, Rui was stuck on him like glue. I think it shows the lack of wiggle and ability to create space in the half court.

Fully agreed. The opposite of what I expected before the season.

Re: RJ Barrett
I feel some of the shots being thrown at R.J. just isn't right. R.J. was beating his man off of the dribble, he just couldn't do adjust to the help defense. None of them could. They are just freshmen. Early into the season freshmen as well.

Rui doesn't move well laterally, IMO. His defense is going to be an issue because he's not a good back line defender for the 4, not quick enough for the 3, and makes some bizarre mistakes off ball (also makes some nice rotations, so it's even more weird).

They're fully right. He has major warts that some people want to dismiss...but they shouldn't be. He has limited shot versatility, is a bad shooter overall, doesn't have burst on offense getting by man (needs screen), limited athleticism in space without head of steam, and can't finish in traffic...all that in addition to being too shot happy. He's been this way at every level he's played at.

Oh I agree with you 100%. That's one of the reasons I was pointing it out. He had major problems creating space with him on him. I can't imagine NBA guards.

Not trying to derail but thoughts on Rui? Do you think he’s a worthy top 10 pick.

Yeah. He suffers from the same issues as previously hyped HS SF's like Shabazz, Harrison Barnes and Wiggins. Straight line driver, no wiggle and shake to his game, bad handles, average acceleration and thus struggling heavily in the half court setting. On top of that he can't shoot, the only area where he's excelling rn is in the open court and when he's just bullying his way through weaker defenders. The latter won't work against NBA guys.
And he can't defend
And he's selfish
And he's inefficient
There's red flags all over the place.
We should learn of prior examples like the ones mentioned above and not be blinded by HS hype and dominating performances against 16 year olds. Would RJ be in the top 5 rn if he didn't have such hype coming out of High School?

Would you have him 1st rnd or do you think he’s just all hype?

He's outside my top 10 big board, at the moment.
