Why can't we just appreciate two young guys who's shown that they belong in the league? There's a stickied ROY thread to prop up a rookie.

We should have new statistical category for Ayton too. Hides in D. Double digits in every game. ;)

Eh, you couldn't resist such opportunity to bash Ayton, did you ? ;)

It's funny to attack the defense of another player when defending Luka.

While I have already stated I like Doncic, the media hype is unreal. And I was just making fun of the 'pass and assist' part in above post.

Let’s see about media hype, if Dallas makes a run for the playoffs. ;)

I hope they make it, so we can watch Luka against a playoff defense. Not saying he will not do well, but it will be a much better test for him both offensively and defensively.

I'm OK with him winning ROY as well, which looks very likely. I did a bet on him and Ayton at the time it was still worth it.

I'm not really impressed by Luka's stats but I have to admit I didn't think he could have lead the Mavs to this kind of record after 20 games.

acb league, euroleague, preparation games, regular season, playoffs...won't change much. the real Luka we will see, when they build the team around him and give him the keys. and then the real hype will start.

Not yet after two great games, so far I still have JJJ and WC ahead of this young fella, if he continues to display good games sure, but we cant just forget about the previous 15+ games when he wasnt as stellar

Not recognizing a talent just because he is in the same rookie class as your team's best rookie player is petty. Mavs fans don't have a problem recognizing how good Ayton is, who is probably just as hyped by the way. It's also very funny that you are saying/implying that a rookie must face playoff defenses in order to get recognized for his rookie performance. This is ridiculous.

His shot is really improved from last year. In RM he missed most of those step back 3s, which lowered his overall percentages and led many people to think he is not a good shooter.

He was shooting too many contested step back 3s as he was their final option when possession goes south, plus he was always shooting full court shots at the end of the quarter. He was a good shooter, its just people who never watched what he shoots, just his percentages were thinking he cant shoot.

I'm actually quite the opposite.

The Mavs are a good, balanced team and a bunch of other players are doing well, even their bench players. Not taking anything away from Luka, but this is the ridiculous thing not the pass in the video above - putting all the credit for team success on one player.

Luka doncic was the most NBA ready rookie. Actually Dallas should tank this year and add another key piece to Luka.

Funny, because before the games started people kept saying Luka was the "great white hope". Surprise, he's actually really good at basketball.

What do you guys think would happen if we would replace Ben "forever a rookie" Simmons and Luka?

...or cool down. You said it yourself, he was not playing that good in EU against better defense. Again not saying he will not do well, but look at other rookies from last year - Tatum, Mitchell, many more examples. They are still too young, there are ups and downs, you can't guarantee anything in this league.

How do you think, he didn’t played that well in Europe? He was first team of Eurobasket, where many Nba players played. MVP of regular season in Euroleague. MVP of ACB league. MVP of F4 in Euroleague. He has won everything with Slovenia, Real and he has won almost all individual awards. In the league, where nobody under 23 has important role in his club. If the best player in Europe didn’t play well, who did?

The truth is, it’s impossible for anybody to have stats like in Nba in Europe. LeBron had 13/4/4 in Fiba competitions.

I did read it, and to me it seems that it's bothering you that Luka is praised here and in the media for a very obvious, consistently good rookie performance. How exactly is the hype undeserved?

they dont have their pick unless its top 5.

I also think Luka is pretty good defender, what do you guys think? I think his lack of defense was way overblown.

Well, we have probably really different idea about a "balanced team".
Jordan defense and Carlise coaching are the only two things that stand out besides Luka.
Other than that Dallas is an horrible team (but, imho, DSJ is a mediocre player so maybe I am too biased)
