Magic Mike directed by Gregory Jacobs was a real unexpected treat. Once you get past the 6 pack exterior, there is a real clever parable to the story. I draw the comparison to how this film was marketed and perceived, as soft core porn for moms while in reality this was road trip with your buddies who are only in the business as a means to an end for their real passions. Perfectly put near the end of the film, one of the secondary character's tells the guys;
"It's show time, not bro time."
While there are quite a few stripper scenes, just as in the original there was some real heart to Magic Mike. I didn't think I would enjoy this movie as much as I would, one scene in particular at the gas station was a real delight. You would expect sub par performances but aside from Kevin Nash and Gabriel Iglesias, they were surprisingly pretty solid. Sometimes you watch a film with a lot of dark scenes and the lighting is atrocious, not the case here. Maybe I won't recommend it flat out but hey if your girlfriend, wife wants to watch this with you then feign disappointment and be prepared to be pleasantly surprised.
