Starting 5.

P Scrubb
Heslip
T Scrubb
Wiltjer
Anthony

Not sure I like Brady in there. Would rather see best. Heslip and Wiltjer on the floor at the same time will be very interesting at least.

Going 10 deep pretty quick (no Morgan or Gray).

Tied 17-17 after 1.

Joel continuing to play better than I expect in all these games.

Phil is also looking good. Was a little worried about him starting at the 1 but hes been good.

I'd like to see Morgan get some of Pierres minutes. Dyshawn has really struggled across all these games.

Pretty crazy sequence with Canada getting about 6 shots in a row without scoring there. Pretty sloppy

Venezuela is finding it easier to get to the rim.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

Feeling like We're gonna lose this game. Really sloppy on both ends. The crowd is really crazy. Wish we could have that advantage at home.

Atleast the Dominican is gonna lose too. PR lost yesterday as well

37-37 at the half.

I dunno - I think we have a chance. It has seemed sloppy but I think we have the horses here. Wiltjer, Scrubb, Anthony are all playing well. If we can get something more out of a couple others guys (Best? Heslip?) we have a shot. VEN has been hitting some tough shots that may not continue to fall. If Brady hadn't missed a couple wide open threes (usually gimmees) for him we'd be in a good spot at the half. Man, he aggravates me when not hitting his threes.

Unfortunately I haven't seen much from Heslip, Best, Notice, Pierre, Landry yet. Gray had a few good minutes - maybe he can step up?

Down 4 with a quarter to go. And Venezuela has hit some great shots and (as always) had the benefit of a few calls. A win is still within reach, but they need to clean things up for these final 10 minutes.

Heslip needs to hit his threes at a 50% plus clip or he just kills this team. Too many minutes for him. Not sure why so few minutes for Best. And I am not sold that Scrubb is a good enough PG. He is a SG or maybe a combo getting back up PG minutes. Tommy Scrubb with a pretty bad game too.

Way too many dumb mistakes for Canada in that 4th quarter. And Venezuela hit a bunch of shots in rhythm. It was pretty clear which group of guys are used to playing together.

I wasn't counting on a win, but it's still disappointing. It seems Venezuela always has our number.

Rana is a bum.

Brady is a bum

Dyshawn is a bum

Notice is a bum

I'd prefer to not see them again.

I'm being an ass but this was a super frustrating game to watch.

You can tell that 2 days of practice was not near enough

Really woukd have liked to see Kaza get more time along with best.

Brady, Notice, Landry and Dyshawn were all useless

What does this loss mean for us? Sorry but I don't follow team Canada that close but am curious.

A loss here and in Brazil in a couple of days was kind of to be expected, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating. I'm not sure why Pierre has been so horrible for Canada with the exception of one game. He's absolutely a net negative if this is the way he's going to play.

It just really sucks to be playing our C-team against another country's A-team in important qualification games. I hate this system.

It just means we still have more work to do in order to qualify for the World Cup next year. A win against Chile in the next window in February might get it done, but a win against Venezuela or Brazil (on Monday) in addition to beating Chile would all but clinch it.

At the end of the day - if we beat Chile in February in Newfoundland ( I hear the game is almost sold out) we are in.

D.R. lost to Brazil today - the best they can get to is 8 wins.

Beat Chile( or anybody else) and we get to 8 wins. We have the tiebreaker.

I expected this result, as in essence this is the same Venezuelan team that beat us to go to the Olympics on a neutral court when we had 8 NBA guys.

We had 2 days of practice and they've been together practicing for weeks.

Such is the new FIBA qualification system.

Venezuela actually played without 2 of their best players...well without 3 of their best players overall, but one of them quit the team. Still missing 2 players they would normally have.

Canada lost the game not because they didn't have enough players. They lost because they don't have any point guards, and Venezuela does. Venezuela has actual floor generals, and Canada has two guards that their coaches can't seem to ever grasp are not point guards. That would have also included XRM, if he played.

Really though, Canada kind of had some of its own advantages as well. Like it was clear Venezuela had no clue how horrible Wiltjer is on defense. They never really even tried to go at him on offense. If they knew him, they would have been attacking him on every possession, until he was benched.

I really can't see any excuses for Canada. They just don't have competent coaches.

rough night. still cant quite believe CANADA can't win a game vs. Hugo Chavez.......

nevertheless, a nice blurb here to distract from the misery:

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/25414079/big-ten-hoops-gauntlet-starts-friday
1. Ignas Brazdeikis is America's MVP

The Lithuanian-Canadian sensation could lead Michigan to the national title that eluded the program a year ago. Somehow, John Beilein lost Mo Wagner, a first round pick by the Los Angeles Lakers who averaged 21.2 PPG and 10.3 RPG last year, and improved. OK, it's a little early and the sample size is a bit small to suggest the Wolverines with Brazdeikis, the 6-foot-7 combo forward who scored 24 points in Michigan's 84-67 win over North Carolina on Thursday, is definitively better than last year's dominant group. But consider this from hooplens.com: Michigan has made 40 percent of its 3-pointers and 53.4 percent of its shots inside the arc while committing turnovers once every 10 trips up the floor and generating a 1.17 points-per-possession offensive rate with Brazdeikis on the floor. With Brazdeikis on the bench, the Wolverines have made just 20 percent of their 3-pointers and nearly doubled their turnover percentage. Also, the team hovers around a ridiculous 0.70 PPP defensive efficiency with or without Brazdeikis. The Wolverines, right now, are the Cleveland Cavaliers with LeBron James when Brazdeikis is on the floor and the Cleveland Cavaliers post-LeBron James when he's on the bench. If Brazdeikis maintains this production and impact throughout the year, Beilein could cut down the nets in Minneapolis.
