Ayton’s various failings coalesce into one broader illustrative statistic: When he defends an attempt within 6 feet of the hoop, opponents are shooting 65.5 percent, the highest for any player who’s faced at least 100 such shots. (Second and third from the bottom, respectively, are Nemanja Bjelica and Enes Kanter, who don’t quite serve as role models for aspiring rim protectors.) Carter and Jaren Jackson Jr. rank fourth and seventh, respectively, with allowed field goal percentages hovering around 50 percent.

Re: WELCOME DEANDRE AYTON!!!!
It's too bad the Ayton receives a lot of crap about his defense. But you know what ... he's getting paid $8.5M per year, fifth highest on the team, and is the top draft pick in a supposed elite class. Our expectations should be high. His offense is great. His rebounding is okay and could be improved. He fitness was sub-par in the summer and only slightly improved. When he starts showing improvement on the defensive then I'll and I imagine others will let up on it.
Booker deserves the same call out on defense as well. If these two are the cornerstones to this team and going to be paid max contracts they better both get their full games pulled together.

Also, all this whining about Koko not getting Ayton the ball down low is a bunch of hog wash. If the front office gave Koko a competent PG in the offseason it wouldn't be half the problem we are seeing right now. This is mostly on Ryan **** McDickhead.

Igor also said up above in the tweet I just posted is that he wants Ayton dunking 10x a game, so he's obviously not telling him not to be aggressive or to drift out a lot and take a bunch of mid range jumpers.

Shooting threes just turns him into a bigger, softer pussy. He needs to be aggressive and 10 dunks a game is the best way to go about it. Dunks off of lobs, offensive rebounds, driving to the basket hard. No freaking threes until he grows a big pair.

Re: WELCOME DEANDRE AYTON!!!!
I'm not saying he needs to be brook Lopez and launch 8 a game but right now teams don't even guard him out there. So take the open look and if he can make a respectable percentage then it at least brings the other teams center out further and opens things up for others. I just feel like he has the mechanics to be ok from deep so why not try now when the outcomes of games don't matter.bigfoot wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:I get wanting to develop him in steps but part of me says you're 4-18 **** it let him fly.bwgood77 wrote:?s=21

Ayton = the anti -Amare
And I’m really not sure what to make of this other than sheandrea looks quite comfortable assuming his role. Clearly If this video came out before the draft... we’ll, at least I wouldn’t be so surprised by his Low T play

What ever happened to the ol eye test. Must everything be correlated and processed and computed ? Donic is a better ball player period. Ayton doesnt know how to play yet. May never really get it. Likely will NEVER approach Doncic in conceptual basketball. He has relied totally on superior athletic size and ability. WeeAndre is a little kid still not ready to grasp the responsibility of his lofty draft status. Such a punky puzzy move that dance video was. I dont know why that bothers me so much other than he played his part so well. I'll say it...Deandre GAYton. (Not that there is anything wrong with that) His lack of aggression could be his calling card. Can you see Stat doing that? or Dudes like MHarrell or Boogie or any ball player that has half an active pair of nutz ??? The kid is ... a kid. I really want to see someone elbow his face just to see if there is any mannish reaction. Softy big men have no place in this league, yet we are invested in a big squeezable roll of charmin.
What ? Me Worry ?

And there is Ayton's official nickname ... Mr Whipple

With Ayton's (apparent) soaking up advice and being open to coaching I have hope, but Doncic is light years ahead on bbiq. I thought he reminded me of Bird a bit...just instinct wise...and coming into the NBA he is definitely a few years younger than Bird was.
Now Ayton started basketball later and if he can become a good rim protector and help defender he will be an all time great. I can't say I expect it based on watching him the last year, but apparently he soaks up being teached.
His offense is great, and could be a lot better if he rolled harder to the rim, etc, and his rebounding is usually great, though the last couple of games he was doing too much watching. If he can get that defense he can be great.
I was trying to think of a C in the league today who couldn't protect the rim and was not a good help defender but was a great scorer and rebounder leading a team to a winning record, but I couldn't think of one. Jokic maybe, but he is smarter on D and is such a great passer and can hit the 3. Towns never went anywhere before Butler.
Now the big plus is that Ayton is a rookie still learning, so comparing him to Jokic or Towns or anyone is unfair. I hate that the other rookie bigs drated high are better defensively, and not by a small amount...so that is a bit concerning.

Jesus Christ Frank, just because you came out of the womb a 50 year old curmudgeon without rhythm doesn't mean that's this is any kind of damning evidence.
And here's your lover boy, by the way. Is he Low T too?
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Have to agree here with BW. Mavs have one of the best benches in the NBA, they are also usually all in huge +/- positives. So comparing both players on and off is pointless.
Also, looking at Holmes last 5 games for example. We could think why he is not playing more. If Ayton wasn't nr1 pick and Holmes could play like this through 30-35 mins, his stats would have been even better than Ayton's. Plus he is a real fighter on both ends of the floor.
