I'd say so

Deyonte Davis and Timothy Luwawu, Demetrius Jackson were on everyone's minds (including mine)

Masai is the best drafter the NBA has ever seen.

Um no.

I can name way more times when fans got it wrong, and the team was right than the opposite.

- How about when Raptor fans booed Stoudamire cuz they wanted Ed O'Bannon?
- How about when Knicks fans booed Porzingis?

I could go on and on and on....

That's incorrect statement - All you have to do is read the draft threads. Fans are correct way more than you think.

Masai or any GM for that matter have been wrong lots.
"Fans"? Which "fans"? There are 1000s of us my guess is we are wrong way more often than we are right.

Yeah, that claim that “fans are correct way more than you think” is total BS.

Skal was on my mind but Pascal is something special at the 27th pick.

I’m not sure if Masai is the best drafter in the NBA but he’s not afraid to take risks and reach for someone he likes (worst case Bruno). He does seem to have a ‘type’ that he drafts(or signs for FVV), usually older (Norm, Siakam, Delon, FVV) and sometimes from a school in a sub par conference (Siakam, FVV), often likes athletic guys too.

Watching Pascals progression has me wanting to do a deep dive into under the radar prospects. Find guys with two elite skills and see if the rest can be refined.
It's funny that Siakams strengths were speed and motor. Those traits may seem like the same thing but the motor comes through on the defensive side/switching.
He actually seems like a Big Barbosa. I recall Barbosa being a decent defender and he looked long.

If a player has a + wingspan (greater than their height) and athletic, chances are Masai is going to draft him.

Pascal, Skal and Poeltl were in a private workout in Buffalo held by the Raps 2 days before the draft.

Siakam dominated Skal in every aspect. That's what supposedly sealed the deal.

Ho boy.
No ammunition here to shoot down your statement.

When we drafted him, I was meh on the pick, but figured it being a 27th pick, it was going to be meh regardless. I saw energy big from the videos. Nothing special. His passing/court vision, handles, and touch have all been impressive and improved each season by leaps and bounds. Impressive stuff from Siakam.

Most of the scouting reports at the time listed him as "unathletic" lol.

I don't know man GMs scout and get paid loads and still get it wrong - My 8 hours of YT/Wikipedia would have told me ( and many other fans) that Durant was easily the number one pick for example.

Never understood all the talk in the off-season after Casey was fired that Masai was now in the hot seat. That makes no sense brother. It’s clear he is one of the top executives in basketball, regardless of the final result this year brother. The heavy majority of his moves are positive and he does not give an F about pissing people off brother.

I'm sure its a combination of the 'type' of player and the spot where is he drafting. Often enough, these 2-4 year college players slip through the cracks as they are seen as older. Everyone is love with those 1 and done guys in the lottery. Masai plays it safe.

Best late pick we’ve had after 20th. Who else panned out this well after 20? I can’t seem to remember. We had a ton of horrible picks in the top 15.

Morris Peterson at 21
Delon Wright at 20
OG Anunoby at 23
Pascal Siakam at 27

Those are our only servicable players selected after the 20th pick, 3/4 of the picks were made by Masai.

Motor for bigs is a quality trait in today’s NBA. He made a motor pick in Poeltl as well. Harrell was one of my favorite late round prospects, I was immediately impressed watching his workouts and scouting vids. He has length and a nonstop aggressive motor, the reason these guys (he, Siakam) succeeded where Faried did not is one their basketball iq, two they don’t think they’re better than they actually are so they play within themselves, and they capitalized on a higher offensive upside.

Getting lanky shoot em up bigs or post only guys in the late rounds is a waste. Guys like Capela are more coveted, two way players who understand their role, and can go nonstop.
