I really like SGA's potential but I think it's fair to say at this point that his bad games have been much worse than what you would get from some steady veteran.

yeah i wouldn't expect too many rooks to be steadier and more consistent than some one with a good amount of years under the belt. It was the "liability" point i was trying to get more context for.

Luka so clutch again. Big 3, hits his FTs, rebounds, assists Junior on last play. Meanwhile Ayton is leading his team right to the very bottom...

Ayton's defense is worse than advertised.

Can't create for himself or others, not a good shooter, thus a liability.

I haven't watched Ayton or Suns much....so can anyone say how has he looked offensively? How good is he at post?

Doncic with DSJ is alot of fun to watch. He's been getting more post ups as well, he looks efficient in the post

Caught only little of him so far but based on Clipsfansince98 posts on here about SGA, I thought he was already pretty good enough to be starter on this Clippers team?

He gets so much separation on it, it's crazy. And yes, he is very efficient on the low post, his back to the basket game is something he can build on already. Such a diverse scoring/playmaking package for a 19-year-old.

+ Good jump shot and passing. Great hands and finishing around the rim.

- Very little post game and can't create his own offense otherwise. Even if he posts up in a mismatch he'll likely pass it back out or end up with a jump hook. No aggression/creativity when he gets the ball; looks to pass first.

Please don't ask about his motor, rim protection, help defense, or overall awareness.

Him and Robinson have been the most impressive 2nd round prospects so far . Just glides down the court so effortlessly

Kurucs motor is just pain awesome. He's a real joy to watch because he never quits on a play.

I am surprised he is more NBA ready than Musa. I liked Musa a lot.

the funniest thing about Luka is, that people believed his biggest disadvantage before coming in Nba was, he isn't athletic enough, cannot make separations and is a bad shooter. and somehow his prime roll in the Nba is Iso scorer and clutch player. ;) It shows how bad Nba is in scouting Euros.

Or it could be that he improved beyond anything anyone could have imagined.

It could also be both. :)

He was clutch in Real too. The main difference is more spacing and different rules. Some plays he’s playing now are impossible in Europe, because of no 3 seconds defensive rule there’s always 7’ monster protecting the rim. And he was doubled non stop in Europe. I believe the biggest improvement will we see next year, when he has time to work on his body for the first time in his career. It’s really comical how white, chubby dude makes 20+ points with an ease every second game. :D

One simple data.

Clutch advanced data (at least 20 minutes) PIE (player impact estimate) - TS% - USG%
Doncic 28.7 - 65.9% - 35.1%
Trae 8.5 - 40.8% - 36.2%
JJJ 7.3 - 67.6% - 7.8%
Shai 6.3 - 60.7% - 15.3%
WCJ 4.4 - 38.9% - 18.8%
Ayton 3.0 - 69.4% - 7.4%

In the last 5 minutes of close game the other rookies disappear.

The only rookie that comes close is the impressive Trier that should have more appreciations with 26.2 - 68.4% - 19.0%

As a reference the best "clutch" player in terms of PIE this season is Oladipo (43.8), Fox (32.8, great, great season for Fox) and Doncic.
Lebron is at 27.6.
Harden 20.2
Durant 19.4
Ben Simmons 13.9

I'm curious how the DSJ / Doncic combo develops. Contrary to what many said before, I don't think it's a given that it can't work out and then Mavs need to trade him. Reports out of Dallas say that Smith buys into the program, has a good relationship with Doncic and is willing to adapt his game to help the team win. He obviously needs to improve his shooting, but if he can turn himself into a versatile combo guard and play D like here on a consistent basis:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Mavericks/comments/a3a48l/dsjs_insane_defense_on_the_trail_blazers/

then I don't think Dallas needs to get rid of him unless it's a deal that nets them a surefire star player.
