If we're being honest, the Bol and Bamba comparison is lazy at best. They aren't similar too similar in terms of play style and different types of athletes as well. Both being African (or of African descent if we want to nitpick) bigs has a lot to do with it.

I will say that I strongly believe that Kristap's success had a lot to do with how folks looked at Dragan Bender as a prospect for similar reasons (both European bigs with some rudimentary shooting ablility) even though I didn't really think they were overly comparable in terms of play style and athleticism.

I'd like to believe that NBA GMs and scouting departments are more diligent in their evaluation of prospects.....but then again, I'm sure that isn't always the case.

Trae and Bol is defensive suicide. No way you can pair them together at all.

A Bol/Collins front court is pretty decent defensively

I think Bol will be a great defender in time and he will be a great shot blocker.

^And this is where Bol becomes so polarizing. Bol is such a mixed bag defensively but has seem really outstanding qualities (both for good and bad, I guess). I think ATL is his most likely landing spot, they seem enamoured with shooting and Bol's shooting at the 5 is awesome. John Collins has been better on defense than I expected out of college but I think I'd feel more comfortable with a clear plus guy at the 4 to help compensate for how unsure some may be about Bol and his projection.

Bol's frame is the most concerning part defensively. He'll get his blocks because of his length and athleticism but can he withstand the pounding inside and can he hold ground against some of the bulldogs inside? That's the biggest question mark.

Though I think if he had a better frame (say Bamba-esque), we might be talking about the 2nd best player in this draft.

I am with the people that say he has a lot of bust factor to him...and I can't point my finger on it either.

Putting Bol and Trae in the pick and roll would be the most automatic two points in basketball. Bol can't defend pick and roll at all in college. Has zero lateral quicks defensively. He is not a great rim protector either. Why would you even want to put your organization through this?

Well the guy is also slow as molasses and not very mobile, so if he can't provide much of an interior presence, what does he really offer on that end besides weak-side rim protection and the occasional highlight block?

3 blocks per game in 30 minutes is not great shot blocking? Also has a 6.0 DBPM which is pretty solid and I know Oregon’s first 4 opponents all shot below 40%...he also moves pretty well for his size imo but I will key in on him defending the pick and roll next time I watch him.

He's certainly not great now, and will never be switching onto perimeter guys, but I think he could grow to be pretty solid in drop coverage.

What are people’s thoughts on Bol Bol just committing to be a Giannis/KD hybrid forward/wing?

Kid had some highlights today where he looked incredibly fluid. And fluidity is one of my favorite attributes to gauge if an athlete’s athleticism will actually translate in a game setting.

Why would he commit to that archetype when he's most effective as a 5? Bol is fluid for a center. He would get shredded defensively playing the 4, let alone the 3. Talking about Bol in the same sphere as KD/Giannis needs to stop.

No way man. Doesn't have the feet to play defense on the wing more than he has to nor the handling or playmaking. There's no need to get cute with him. At the 5 he'll be one of the most mobile big men in the league...leverage that strength.

Bol is fluid, but that doesnt mean he's quick. I actually think he has pretty slow feet, again I think he is fluid in his movements, but ya that dude has no chance to be anything other than a 5 in the NBA.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I think he moves exceptionally well for a guy his size. I don't see him as "slow as molasses"

Im with you, he moves well. And I don’t think we’re the minority, just the people who think he’s slow are the loudest about it. I have a history of being right specifically about player movement and I know he’s not slow. It’s probably the same thing as Bamba where he gets fatigued.

Bol Bol has way more game than Thon Maker. Way more game.

Maker struggles to block shots and position himself for rebounds. Bol doesn't have that problem because he understands positioning, and unlike Maker, has big hands to secure rebounds. His big hands also help him to catch passes and finish around the rim, which Maker can't. Bol also is taller, with both a longer wingspan and standing reach.

Last but not least, Bol can put it on the floor and pullup. He has an array of moves for a player his age and height.
