I've never played Smash before, but the reviews do have me intrigued. I just don't know if it'll be fun without a ton of friends buying it, too.

That's my biggest qualm. I just don't have enough friends with the Switch and Smash is all about the multiplayer. I'll still get it though because I have a problem with buying games.

I hear you, man. I've got the same problem, though I've gotten a lot better since I first dived back into gaming four years ago. I made so many thoughtless game purchases back then - games I barely played. Now, I'm better managing that. I didn't buy a game this year that I haven't - or won't - sink at least 30 hours into. And several - 2K, FIFA, MLB The Show, and RDR 2 most notably - will get at least a couple years of investment from me.

It's the most inexplicable failure of the Switch, IMO. I still can't believe that they don't have a party chat feature built into the device.

Just go the PC route and do discord. Can even do it on your phone!

I'm in for it, too. I don't think I'll be doing a lot of group stuff on my PS4 for now, but you can find me on PSN with the same username as I have here. I have all of those games as well.
