Shedding that Smith deal cost us yet another 2nd-round pick. But we trim a bit off the sides of that luxury tax bill (Dekker makes $2.7 vs. Smith's $5.4m)

So in other words we picked up a poor man's Jason Smith...but slightly cheaper. They scared now. :D

Dekker's 8 years younger, more athletic, can defend better, but can't shoot as well. He's faster in the open court as well.

Can't shoot as well as *Smith*? Oof. But you may not be wrong. :-? His career 3PT% is 28.8%. He's shooting 38.5% this year, but in an incredibly small sample size. He's also nursing a bad ankle; he's only played in 9 games this year.

Saves money. Got rid of the white M.L. Carr. I’m sure this move will be forgotten after the next one is made.

ARGH!!! Ernie really hates 2nds. Dekker turns 25 next spring and hasn't really shown anything.

I understand money wise it's not that bad but guys like Smith, Nicholson etc. shouldn't have been signed in the first place... Sigh... #FireGrunfeld

Oh, you're right, I can't read. That's actually bad because in 2022 high school players can enter the NBA draft I think... But on the other hand, Ernie has traded away all of our near future 2nd rounders so he didn't really have chance!

Trading nothing for nothing, save some bucks, and keep our full compliment of white guys. Approve.

Of course Smith should never have been on team to begin with and that money could have been used on a useful player. Ernie still digging out from summer of 2016. Ian next?

Please note we are swapping 2nd round picks, not losing one.

C'mon guys, he's 25, not 35.

And he has some talent. Could be good with the second unit

I don't hate the deal. The kid seems versatile.

"Slam" Dekker has been recovering from an ankle injury for just over a month. Who knows when he'll be ready to go. Then again, if Jeff Green is healthy, he probably will never see any time.

Another dead ender to lap up any scraps of minutes Brooks might have found for Brown

Actually I recant, they are also giving a 2nd rounder. It’s not specified what pick or protections, probably heavily protected and/or may never convey.

Another pick or two lost because of the 2016 free agency debacle.

And Grunfeld remains our GM.

One notable positive, it looks like Milwaukee will be able to keep Middleton now. That's one less good free agent possibility for the Lakers. John Wall looks a bit better today than yesterday.

How much help does Tomas Satoransky need?

Seriously though the elephant in the room is what in world does this mean for Okaro White?

Quite like the trade, we save money and I think Dekker is alright. When healthy he could give us some good minutes if Jeff Green is having an off night, or he could even fill in at backup SF (instead of playing Rivers so much). Liked him in Houston, one of those crafty players that knows where to be and how to get there. Like a homeless-mans Otto, perhaps.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Dekker has some b-ball smarts. Let us not undervalue that.
I like this trade. We've gotten younger, and will be able to take some time to evaluate some younger talent. Smith was just rotting on the bench. Not saying Dekker will not have the same fate, but it does give us a fresh new face to eval. From the owners wallets perspective, we dont pay as much tax, so I'm sure the owner values this trade. I am sure more changes are to come.
