I mean, it look likes he does alot of the stuff Oubre does, but hopefully you know...he passes. That would be nice.

This is the blockbuster deal we've been waiting for. Kudos to Ernie for not giving Jason Smith a trade kicker.

Nothing to hate about this at all! Decent trade. That's 2021 second is more valuable than the 2022 pick we had because it's a year sooner and if we are planning on using it in a package to dump someone else that helps ever so slightly ! Suprised they gave up so much for hill of all players ? Doesn't that seem odd to anyone?

I wonder if they actually play Dekker. Seems like a nice flyer to take.

Hill's contract is only guaranteed for $1 million next season, so this deal gives them a great deal of flexibility going forward. They're now projected to have around $25 million in cap space, so they may be able to get someone good to come play with Giannis. It's also worth noting that all of their current starters except Giannis are free agents next summer, so even if they don't land a marquee guy, they should still be able to keep their team together. In the short-term Hill helps them more than Delly and Henson. I think the Bucks did really well here.

Regardless if this is a good trade or not Ernie shouldn't have been the one making it. I was hoping we finish this season without any gm moves and Ernie gets fired in the offseason. Clearly a pipe dream though.

“This trade allows us to continue to work to improve our team and gives us a young, developing player in Sam whose versatility and athleticism at the forward position will allow him to earn an opportunity to contribute,” said Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld.

As a part of the three-team deal, the Bucks receive George Hill and a 2021 second-round pick from the Cavs, while Cleveland receives Matthew Dellavedova, John Henson and 2021 first and second round picks from Milwaukee. The Wizards sent Jason Smith and cash considerations to the Bucks and a 2022 second round draft pick to the Cavaliers.

We don't get a pick. So we've traded

- 2019 2nd for Oubre
- 2020 2nd for dumping Meeks
- 2021 2nd for Trey freaking Burke
- 2022 2nd for Sam Dekker

I'll give him a chance but would prefer seeing Brown in rotation (or anyone not named Rivers). :noway:

Me too but I don't know. Whatever, they're worthless as long as Ernie is making the pick.

All right, so according to ESPN:

Bucks get:
G George Hill
F Jason Smith
2021 second-round pick (from Wizards)

Cavs get:
G Matthew Dellavedova
C John Henson
2021 first-, second-round picks (from Bucks)
2022 second-round pick (from Wizards)

Wizards get:
F Sam Dekker
2021 second-round pick (from Cavs)

That 2021 2nd could be nice because Cavs will be trash for years unless they get new LeBron. Hopefully by then we have a new GM.

Okay, I've been rambling enough. Dekker played last time on November 5th against Orlando posting 2 points (FG 0/4), 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 foul in 14,5 minutes. I remember he had some nice games in 2016-17 season with the Rockets and at least he has some upside compared to Smith, though latter was terrific cheerleader.

Based on that blockbuster, Dekker is our new PF. Two years ago, at age 22, he had a 30 point game. In 12 NBA seasons, the best Smith could manage was 26 points. The Clippers had to give up Chris Paul to acquire Dekker, and now Dekker is bringing to the Wiz his battle-tested playoff experience with Harden (Wall, that could be you too) and looking forward to re-teaming with Unlicensed Pill Mill Doc Rivers to recreate their version of Alley-Whoops!

Nicknames:
Dekk Shoo
Shake-n-Bake by the Lake
The Sheboygan Asshasshin
The Sheboy
Tidy Whitey
Green Eggs and Ham
The Fad Badger
The Tall of America
The Repentant Crusader

Notes: Dekker is from Wisconsin, grew up a Bucks fan, and will join the Bucks in a future blockbuster trade. As a future pick, Dekkar was part of the 2014 trade that allowed Ariza to sign with Houston and gave the Wizards the unforgettable Melvin Ely (who gave the Wizards his all) and a trade exception (see below). When the Cavs acquired Dekker from the Clippers, they had to cough up Vladimir Veremeenko, who went to the Cavs in (do we have to keep calling it) the Hinrich maneuver. So in addition to all his other attributes, Dekker also has the trade value skills of Quentin Richardson.

On its face, this is not a bad trade. Dekker's peak seems higher than Smith's, and he's closer to that peak, he's younger, his contract is better, and he's probably a better fit for the Wizards anyway. This move and similar moves: the Preldzic (who?) for Blair trade, the Humphries for trade exception acquisition, the Hinrich "maneuver," the trade up for future D-League MVP Glen Rice, the Jamison for a 1st trade--and so on--make Grunfeld look like some sort of super savvy 3-D chess master, when usually he's really just being thrown a bone by other GMs who have a bigger plan and need something badly.

Where a move might make or break the team, might move the Wizards into true contender or near-contender status, or lock them into mediocrity or rebuild-again territory, that is where EGgo is truly in his element. Where some GMs may fool themselves with 3-D chess conceits, EGgo's under-the-radar 0-D tic-tac-toe blinds them with darkness. Mike Miller, Jan Vesely, Eric Maynor, Mahinmi, Nicholson, Smith. Just the most obvious, but a Who's Who of What Was He Thinking?

The bad thing about a trade like this--saves the team money, brings in better, younger talent, improves future draft assets--is it might lead to EG getting another secret contract. It's almost as if the other GMs have conspired to ensure that outcome.

Damn it EG... did it again.
Guys... this is a good trade. Dekker is an above average defender at the 4 that rebounds(For a stretch 4), stretches the floor, doesnt turn the ball over, and doesnt foul.

We saved money and gained a rotation worthy player making 2.7M with RFA rights. I was a big Dekker fan out of college, with my only concern being in his shot. If he proves to be a solid shooter/scorer (50/35/75), then we just added another high IQ player that takes care of the ball and plays with energy... I like his pairing with Sato, Otto, Beal, Brown, Bryant...

We did get an "upgrade" for Smith, but it would have been far more preferable to have had Smith's non-existent team-option not be exercised and we sign Christian Wood instead. Still good to have Smith out of Scotty's rotation though

It’s fine for Ernie to save his owner $5M in tax, salvaging something from his own mistake.

But

- Jason Smith has been on the team for 2 years when that money could have been used on a functional player.
- Yet another 2nd round pick is gone.
- Dekker will not be on team next year and may not make to end of this year.

Let’s not twist this into EG doing something good. It’s even more evidence of his incompetence.

I think it's a decent deal. We get to swap second rounders with the Cavs and they are behind our timeline, so that could actually be a substantial jump up in 2021 depending on where we're at. If it turns out we're so bad that the Cavs get the better part of the deal, it'll likely mean we've gone on a firesale and could be behind the cap enough to just buy second rounders.

I LOVED Dekker coming out of Wisconsin. Injuries clearly derailed him a bit, and I'm not exactly sure what we have in him now, but he has a sample size of over 140 games averaging bench minutes while retaining over 45% from the field as a young wing. That's incredibly difficult, if not impossible to do without having the talent to play at a rotational level.

They can go a lot of different directions with this move. More depth to move Oubre, an exemption to pair with an outgoing player to get a higher salary player, etc. It's really going to depend on how things are closer to February.

Gotta feel bad for Dekker; for a few moments, it looked like he was a Buck - his home-town team - and then finds out he's a Wizard. Nice little (key word) move by the Wiz - saving money and getting a better and younger player than Smith. But it's hard to congratulate EG - considering his foolish signing of Smith was essentially why the trade was made.

The mahimni and Nicholson deals we're bad. Smith's deal wasn't that bad. Good guy who did have a productive stretch.

I am completely indifferent to Dekker. This is obviously just a tax savings move. We have the 6th highest payroll in the league and are a fringe playoff team. I just can't watch another Grunfail rebuild.

We would have been better off if we hadn't landed any top 3 picks. Then Grunfail would have surely been let go.

No. We don't get a 2021 R2 pick from the Cavs. & we don't send a 2021 R2 pick to the Bucks either. That pick goes to the Bucks: https://www.nba.com/wizards/wizards-acquire-sam-dekker-three-team-deal

We don't have a 2021 R2 pick to send. We sent it to Utah for Trey Burke in the 2016 off season. Utah traded it to Cleveland 2 weeks ago when they acquired Kyle Korver. Cleveland (not the Wizards) just sent that pick to the Bucks.

We sent our 2020 pick to the Bucks w/ 46-60 protection long ago for Jared Dudley. If it wasn't to convey b/c of protection it was scheduled to convert to an unprotected R2 in 2022. In the current trade, we waived that protection on the 2020 pick (in order to be able to sent the 2022 pick to the Cavs).

IOW, in addition to Smith, we (essentially) sent our 2020 R2 pick to Milwaukee in this trade.

Our 2019 R2 pick, btw, is owned by either Denver or Charlotte (it was originally traded as part of the deal to pick Oubre -- we gave the #19 pick & 2 R2 picks to move up 4 spots in that draft.

In short, we have no R2 picks in the next 4 years. Note that we traded our 2014 R2 pick, our 2016 R2 pick, & our 2017 R2 pick. That's after turning 2 R2 picks in 2013 into Glen Rice, throwing away one of our two R2 picks in 2012, waiving our R2 pick in 2011 (guy's still in the league), & selling our 2008 & 2009 R2 picks for cash. Our 2010 R2 pick was used to trade up for Trevor Booker, whom we allowed to expire a few years later.

What that means is that out of R2 of 15 drafts (2008-2022) we have managed to extract Tomas Satoransky & the rights to Issuf Sanon.
