I was curious to see what Milwaukee's cap flexibility would be this summer, so I went ahead and did an analysis for you guys.

Under contract next year, you will have the following players at a cost of $66.5M:
- Giannis (25.5)
- Snell (11.5)
- Ilyasova (7)
- Maker (5.2)
- Wilson (3)
- DiVincenzo (3)
Once they actually re-sign, their new salary becomes their cap figure. If you refrain from renouncing any of them, your cap number is 124.3M:
- Brogdon - $1.9M
- Lopez - $4.1M
- Middleton - $19.5M
- Bledsoe - $22.5M

The TLDR version is that you will have to renounce all of Brogdon, Lopez, Middleton and Bledsoe to use your $30.7M in cap room, and that isn't enough for a full max contract. You're not landing Durant, Kawhi, Kemba or Klay with that. I think your best bet is to just retain as many of your key free agents as you can before bumping into the luxtax. The luxtax threshold is estimated to be $132M so that leaves you with $55.7M to pay those 4 guys. You'll probably get to keep 3.

The six guys under contract are at 55m. That's an extra 10 million. Could see a senario we keep brogdons hold and going after a max guy. Not getting my hopes up

Yes, $55.2 million, not $66.5 million, so the team has serious flexibility.

Maker and Wilson for 8.2 could've been useful if they didn't pick those options up.

Actually this should be the correct analysis

Under contract
1) Giannis..... $25,842,697
2) Snell........ $11,392,857
3) Ilyasova.... $7,000,000
4) Maker....... $3,569,643
5) Wilson...... $2,961,120
6) DDV......... $2,905,800
7) 2019 1st.... $2,500,000
- Total......... $56,172,117

Dead money
- Hawes........ $2,007,058
- Sanders...... $1,865,546
- Hill........... $1,000,000
- Total......... $4,872,604

Keepers
8) Connaughton... $1,723,050
9) Wood............ $1,645,357
10) Brown.......... $1,618,520
- Total.............. $4,986,927

Cap Holds
- Bledsoe........ $22,500,000
- Middleton...... $19,500,000
- Brogdon........ $1,931,189
- Lopez........... $4,058,400

This means that Milwaukee can have 10 players with 66 mil. They should renounce Lopez, since they don't have his Bird rights and they can sign him later with the room exception, which will be a little less than 5 million. If they renounce Bledsoe too, they will have 21,6 mil to sign a FA. Actually they are one Snell away from Kawhi max. For Durant max they would have also to shop Ilyasova or renounce the "keepers" too.

We can easily shed their salaries by adding Giannis to a deal.

The logic is sound, but we'd have to keep one of either Thon or DJ to cover for what Giannis gives us.

Good catch guys. Sorry about the bad math.

So the payroll next year is $66M for 10 players. Factor the cap hold on Brogdon and it's $68M for 11 players. That's $41M in cap room (while retaining Brogdon) if you want to go after Kawhi or Durant, or maybe Kemba. Or you keep Middleton and Brogdon and you'll still have $22M to go after other pieces.

A key factor will be how quickly Middleton signs an offer sheet. Once he does, you'll have a very short window to decide whether to match and if you don't, then Middleton's new salary becomes the cap hold, which is likely to significantly cut into that $22M in cap space.

I have been having a look at the Cleveland roster after this trade. They seem to be assembling a good group of players and they played well against Washington. I like the look of this Collin Sexton - exciting prospect. If he can improve his passing game he could become an outstanding player. Good shooter. Kevin Love predicted to return early next year.

The upcoming Bucks vs Cavs game will be an interesting game to watch.

Sexton is Dennis Smith Jr with more tunnel vision. Hard pass

We could easily deal Thon for a draft pick any time we wanted. Plenty of teams would gamble on a hard working, quick 7 footer who can shoot the 3. We're not stuck with him, he's here because we still need him.

How willing are the owners to go over the cap if necessary?

The ESPN report from last year identified Milwaukee as one of 14 teams which are losing money but with the new arena and the very good season they're having, you'd think their revenues are way up?

If the Bucks get to the ECF at least, there might be high expectations from the fan base to keep the team together or improve it, which could be costly.

For example, look at the Rockets having to sign CP3 to that huge contract and then having to let some players go.

Bucks won't be in that situation but it could be expensive to retain Brogdon, Middleton, Bledsoe and/or Hill, Lopez. Or replace several of them with a max free agent.

Toronto would give up 2 -#1s just so they wouldn't have to face him again.

Hill as the 3rd guard is a big addition across the board.

Minor bit of Delly love- he really is a good dude (I don't think anyone has ever questioned that).

This was his last tweet before getting traded (I did some quick googling, this is his and his wife's thing and not something he just fronted for the Bucks).

In that video MD posted he gives a shout out to the kids, talks to them about how the program is still on and he'll do his bit.
