Like I said on draft night, the only way Trae can save this PR nightmare that Travis created is if he can turn into Curry or CP3. You just don't waste a top 3 pick on an ''okay'' starting PG.

The draft night trade felt just like when Marvin or Childress was drafted, and now the season feels like Marvin's rookie season, with fans having alot of excuses for very bad productions and efficiencies.

Imagine whrn Luka gets in NBA shape. Maybe Trae will have a growth spurt.

Maybe re-title this thread; How many Hawks fans would fire TS immediately if he doesn't select Doncic at #3

It's damn near impossible to defend passing on Luka at this point. We needed a star player. One fell to us at #3. We bypassed on a pair of gambles.

NOTE: The truth of the matter though, if Luka was here, we could kiss any shot at Zion, RJ or Cam Reddish goodbye next year. It's a strong possibility, we'd be flirting with the 8th-10th spots in the East this season.

So long term, there is some benefit in him not being here.
Luka/Baze/T Prince/Collins won't win the East. But that would be a strong, solid team hovering just below .500 in the weaker conference.

Honestly I am not sold any of those guys will pan out... especially Zion. Luka did have a ton of hype going into the draft and guys usually don't live up to the hype. Also, there is no guarantee that what he is doing in Dallas he'd been doing in Atlanta. Carlisle is much better coach and they have vets all over that roster.

Then Luka's a system player and we should stop lamenting on trading him away on draft night?

All lamenting aside, the move is on TS's personal record. Did he thoroughly scout the two? Does he know talent when he sees it? He's Gm, it's his job and if he sucks, the sooner we know it the better. I don't need to wait three years, every day, every decision lead up to the result.

I would say so. Those that live in the past limit their future... We have Trae and he is our future. Plus, I still prefer Trae leagues over Schro.

Trae has been a really polarizing player even as a college freshman. The truth is that some thought he wouldn't even be able to compete at all at this level and outside of poor shooting he's excelling. I'll admit I didn't think Luka would be this good but in all honesty I don't think many people did. He would have gone #1 if nba scouts were confident he'd be doing this well. But we'll see how it pans out. I mean look at the mania. Not trying to discount what Luka has been doing but he hits 4 shots in a row to win a game and it's like he's the second coming of Jordan.

^The reigning Euro League MVP going toe-to-toe with the reigning NBA MVP and single-handedly scoring 11 straight points to win the game...as a 19 year old NBA rookie...a little bit noteworthy.

I'm obviously still pulling for Trae, but it's hard not to imagine Luka doing all of that in a Hawks uni.

I'm not knocking what Luka is doing because it's amazing. I will say it's very hard for me to imagine him doing it in a hawks uni after following this team for decades. I can imagine him sitting on the bench in a miami vice suit with a broken funny bone or some such voodoo induced ailment.

The 2018 draft is in the past. The trade for Trae and sending out Luka is in the past. Can't rewrite it... the fanbase needs to move forward.

I think we should leave Trae out of it. He can only be who he's going to be. All the attention needs to be on the man that made the choice.

Trae needs to live up to the #5 pick. Trading Doncic is TS.

The problem with the trade is the trading back part. If TS is so good at spotting talent, why does he trade down? Couldn't he spot the top talent. Did he think that the better talent was available at #5? If not he is using a flawed strategy. TOP talent wins in the NBA. If Doncic is a top talent and Trae isn't, the #8-17 DAL pick has about 0.1% chance of swinging the balance.

It would be so dam Hawks to have the player in their hands just to make a horrendous trade.

Post that sums up how history will likely judge that trade:

GhostOfChicago wrote:Imagine drafting Doncic then trading him away for a small PG who can shoot like Curry but can't make them.

The rest of the league looking at us like -->

Return to Atlanta Hawks
