Wow, I feel like this is a discount for us.
I like the shorter deal for both sides tbh.

Not that I'm upset, but I don't really understand the structure of this deal.
Why three years instead of four? Why make the last year a player option instead of a guaranteed option or team option? (was it a concession?)
Also, interesting decision to pay him now as opposed to later, altering the available cap. Is that an indicator about what types of players Marks will be targeting this summer?

Dinwiddie deserves his... hope the Nets do him right.
Did he get more on the 3 yr deal rather than a possible 4 yr offer in the offseason?

Basically the cost for getting him on a discount I would imagine. In the open market, he gets more money. We gave him less money but the chance to hit the FA market again after 2 years.

Grats to Spencer, and that's definitely a steal. But there goes the pipe dream of signing Kevin and Kawhi lol

It's a tiny discount tho, so it's hard for me to see that as the main factor.
Sounds a little bit like Marks sees Dins somewhat as a placeholder player, which would be consistent with how he's contracted with most (all?) players so far. I don't have a problem with that, really. And he does tend to boost players value, so that's nice for the team's league-wide rep.

Re: Shams: Dinwiddie extended 3 Yrs/34.5M (Player option 3rd year)
Excellent value on this deal and if Dinwiddie exceeds the value of this deal within 2 years the Nets will spare no expense to keep him locked in. Win/win deal for both sides even though it cuts into our capspace.
Also, Spencer Dinwiddie should be proud of himself. He worked hard to come to this point. I remember when he first got here from the d league, barely hanging on to an NBA career and he was a ball of nerves on the court with no confidence. Now look at him. set for life. I'm really happy for this dude.

Re: Shams: Dinwiddie extended 3 Yrs/34.5M (Player option 3rd year)
Congrats to Dinwiddie. I remember a couple years when everyone was focused on the "young' players, especially guys like Whitehead, and Dinwiddie was an afterthought. Dude banged out 1400 on his SATs, turned down Harvard to go to Colorado because he didn't want to be stigmatized as a poor athlete, outlasted the Ferrells and Whiteheads, and given his stats, could very well be the starting PG for the Nets soon, making $11m+ per year.

There goes Allen Crabbe and Russell is definitely on the hot seat now.
I don’t see how this remotely effects our FA plans. It was sounding like if we didn’t extend him now, he wasn’t going to sign whatever we offered (what he got paid now) in the summer. This was a move that they probably didn’t want to do but had to do it because it could’ve backfired.

I'm sure there will be another move after this to offset this contract cutting into the capspace. I wonder who though.

not necessarily, I'd be if that happens. I just think Marks is looking at this deal as a steal and he doesn't to take a risk on potentially what can happen. What makes this a great deal is, that we are able to keep Dinwiddie on the bench with that type of salary.
