Real question is what do they do next year? They have a lot of cap space if they renounce all their cap holds, including DLo and RHJ. But that leaves them with very few players to work with. And they now have Dinwiddie's new contract to account for. Is it enough to attract a star FA? Is there any room to add anyone else of significance after that?
I’m getting a sense that we’re trending to be in the market for Khris Middleton, Tobias Harris, Kemba Walker, Paul Millsap and possibly Kevin Love but they won’t hesitate to renounce both Russell/RHJ if there is any real noise to KD wanting to come here and that leaves us with $46 million.
LeVert, Allen, Dinwiddie, Harris, Kurucs, Napier (?), Musa, 2019 1st, 2019 DEN 1st, NYK 2nd is whats left once removing Russell, RHJ.
That’s nine total players under contract with Davis expected to be back and I’m sure we could bring back Carroll on the cheap. Napier has a team option but we could opt to replace him via the draft.
It doesn’t look sexy on paper but...
- Allen is one of the top rim protectors and a double double leader for his draft class.
- Harris is the best shooter in the league and an A+ finisher around the rim. Dude dropped 30 on LeBron. He’s significantly improved and now he’s adding playmaking to the list.
- Dinwiddie goes from Most Improved Award darkhorse to Sixth Man Of The Year contender. His shooting is cool and all but his finishing ability is starting to get scary good. I don’t see him as a long term starter unless it’s for a super team. As a personality, New York City is starting to catch on, appearing on Rachel Ray Show last year and 50 Cent just co-signed his new sneaker line.
- Kurucs is the steal of the draft. 6’9. Can go from SG to PF and his feel for the game is Kirilenko like. He’s been a projected 1st round pick since 2016 that GM’s botched horribly over fears of Barcelona’s buyout.
- Musa is tearing up the G-League as he continues to bulk up. He’s definitely good as advertised. He’ll be a contributor real soon.
Our two picks likely get packaged to move up. If not, Rui Hachimura, Morant, Nassir Little are among the list of likely candidates with our pick.
All of those elements in an offense that is generally mirroring the principles and analytics of the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors should be attractive to at least ONE Max FA.
Nets wanted Jimmy Butler but he quickly showed he’s a douchebag disliking Dinwiddie’s extension post on IG. So, he’s not coming here anymore and I’m sure the feeling is mutual.
