GT #31: Wizards @ ATL Hawks 7:30 PM (NBCSW/1500 AM)

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Tue Dec 18, 2018 4:11 am

YOUR Washington Bullets are now 12-18 and snapped a 4 game losing streak with perhaps the best performance of the season.

They return to Atlanta to play the Hawks who the Wiz beat about 6 games ago. Bazemore loves trying to go off on the Wiz. Trae Young didn't have a good game the last time and is shooting terribly. However, he is racking up assists and the Hawks can score points...

No Otto Porter and it looks like it'll be another week.

Wiz should win this one easily. Therefore it’s a guaranteed loss, even with savior Ariza.

Wonder how long before Sato is a DNP-CD while Brooks plays Ariza and Jeff Green 35 minutes plus, and Wall and Beal play 45 plus?

Once Porter is back, I imagine our starting lineup is going to be:

Wall/Beal/Ariza/Porter/Bryant

That leaves Satoransky to pick up minutes at both guard positions and small forward. There are going to be plenty of opportunities for Satoransky to contribute.

Brooks has no choice but to play Sato now. There are no other guards on the roster behind Wall and Beal. He could play Wall and Beal 48 minutes, I guess. But I don't think he will.

Yeah, I'm guessing Dekker (after a 10 of 15 performance - with 3 steals) and Brown (0 of 4 but still played well) will barely see the floor in favor of Ariza. Sato's gotta play simply because they have no other depth at guard. I don't have a problem with Green playing a lot of minutes - they need him to with Porter out - and he's been quietly having an excellent season - as opposed to Ariza.

Atl's defense - outside of Bazemore - is terrible. Wall and Beal should combine for 50 plus. Points. Wiz have to win these types of games handily for them to reach their Impressive goal of getting the 8th seed in the playoffs.

The Wizards have to be the easiest team in the league to join mid-season. They don't run any plays on offense except high pick and roll and pindowns. On defense, there is no scheme whatsoever other than switch everything while making no effort to fight around a screen. You can come here, watch about 10 minutes of film, and be fully conversant in the entire playbook. We won't miss a beat with Ariza and Dekker replacing Oubre and Smith.

We have a coach who's technical expertise is to shout at his team to "try harder" on defense and "pass the ball around" on offense.

Actually, I'm giving him to much credit on his offensive expertise.

Atlanta trying to match our mis-management. Trading picks with Dallas to get Trae Young instead of Doncic will be considered one of the worst decisions ever.

Yeah, I think what drove them to it was they came up with the idea that they wanted to copy Golden State's backcourt - and they figured Young could be Curryesque. What they should have been doing was... getting the best player. What a concept!

Might work out well for them just because they are so bad that they could end up in the top 3 and end up with someone like Zion. But yeah, it seemed like a miscalculation. At least the Hawks may get that 2019 pick since it is lottery protected and the Mavs are actually contending for a playoff season.

If Dekker doesn't get 20-25 minutes as a reward for his stellar performance vs. the Lakers, that right there is a ding on the coach.

Actually, it does look like there'll be plenty of minutes for forwards until Porter is back & Morris isn't needed at Center. We have Ariza, Dekker & Green. In fact... essentially we have 9 players!

Wall, Beal & Sato at guard; Brown a swing man; Ariza, Dekker & Green at forward; Bryant & Morris at C.

I'm assuming Mahinmi won't play, White won't play, Porter & Howard are injured.

We might have a Devin Robinson sighting!

If they protect the boards they should make getting a W easier on themselves. Collins an dedmon are long players. I'll miss the first half probably but hopefully they will have built an ok lead by then.

Seems silly to say its a "must win", but I'll say it. We have dug ourselves a deep hole and schedule until all star game has few games more winnable than this one. Playing .500 ball the rest of way not going to cut it.
