Buyers Or Sellers – Southeast Division

Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are bad. If anyone on their roster, outside the trio Trae Young, Taurean Prince and John Collins, isn’t able to be had for a future asset, they are doing this rebuilding thing wrong.

The Hawks should be hunting for draft picks, but looking for some depth on the wing wouldn’t be a bad idea, either. Vince Carter is 41 going on 1 million, Kent Bazemore should be on the move and Justin Anderson and DeAndre Bembry are lower-level rotation players at best. There are some solid pieces in place, but the Hawks have a long way to go before they are buyers again.

Players whose trade restrictions are lifted on Dec. 15
: Vince Carter, Alex Len and Daniel Hamilton

Obviously listen to everything but

1. Trae
2. Collins
3. Huerter

Not trading these guys.

I hadn't thought about Carter being moved. I like having him around but I think he's shown there is something in the tank.

Four potential Jabari Parker trade destinations

ATLANTA HAWKS

With John Collins looking like one member of the Atlanta Hawks’ frontcourt of the future, finding the player who will share the big-man duties with him for years to come is a necessity.

Rounding out the five of the future with a player like Parker would be intriguing, especially since Atlanta already has very promising pieces at the point (Trae Young), at the two (Kevin Huerter) and on the wing (Taurean Prince).

Although Collins hasn’t really shown much as a three-point shooter (despite the form on his jumper being far from broken), the fact he and Parker can at least be threats from the outside would stretch defenses out and make room for guys like Young and Prince to carve up opponents.

Salary-wise, the Hawks have a few options as far as who they can offer for Parker, including Kent Bazemore, Jeremy Lin and Miles Plumlee, serviceable veterans who are not building blocks for the team’s future.

Yuck. The idea of Parker on this roster ... for years to come ...
Image

Anyways ...

I gotta be honest, this Bazemore-Night has the mood of a farewell. I'm eggspecting him to be patted on the back then traded along his merry way. Marc Stein's notes on the matter ...

Keep your eye on the Atlanta swingman Kent Bazemore.
The Hawks like Bazemore for both his on-court production and his veteran presence in a young Atlanta locker room. But he’s generating interest from contending teams that covet a versatile swingman.
The interest in Bazemore — in addition to the longstanding rumblings about the expiring Hawks contracts of Jeremy Lin ($13.7 million) and Dewayne Dedmon ($7.2 million) — comes even with one more season left on his contract after this one at a heady $19.3 million. Which tells you that, in this marketplace, he’s regarded as a difference-maker.

None of the rookies are getting moved. But they are just mentioning core pieces. As for now, Collins, Prince, and Trae is our core at this moment. Next year, we will know more about Prince and Kevin should be in the core.

Maybe a KCP n Lance for Baze. Both expiring..or send KCP to Rockets and just be a three way partner for assets. Thoughts?

If the Nets wanted to make a move..getting DMC to mentor Prince his protege and Huerter isn’t bad.

I don't see Brooklyn doing a deal where they are trading their expiring contracts. It's possible but I don't see it. LAL clearly are not doing it. They want to have space for AD and Durant.

What about to Pelicans for Hill, Wes and a pick? We can get off the books with those two this summer and more flexibility comes our way.

Ez pass unless that pick is top 5 protected. Hill has another year on it and it's worse than Plumlee contract. Horrible! Sorry, no more Miles Plumlee contracts without unprotected or barely protected 1st coming back to Atlanta.

I'm down to trade Prince while his value is high. I don't think he'll end up being as good as we expect. His lack of effort on defense is disgusting and his decision making on offense is lacking. Both can be improved but I think he needs a stern respectable coach for that to happen (and Lloyd Pierce is not that). His ceiling seems to have lowered with the departure of Coach Bud.

I'm not sure it makes sense for the Hawks to trade anybody. Non-lottery picks aren't that valuable to us considering we're already a young team with two first rounders coming in 2019. And we don't have assets valuable enough to ask for higher picks either. Unless someone wants to overpay, I don't think we'll move anyone.

Maybe that's why TS traded back last draft

NBA Trade Ideas Off Latest Buzz:

3-Team Blockbuster Between Atlanta, New Orleans, Utah (After Jan. 14)

Image

Atlanta Hawks Receive: Dante Exum, Solomon Hill, Wesley Johnson, Ian Clark, 2019 first-round pick (lottery-protected, via New Orleans), 2020 first-round pick (lottery-protected, via Utah)

New Orleans Pelicans Receive: Justin Anderson, Ricky Rubio, Thabo Sefolosha

Utah Jazz Receive: Kent Bazemore, Jeremy Lin

Kent Bazemore and Jeremy Lin continue to garner interest around the league, according to the New York Times' Marc Stein. Utah needs both of them.

Utah coughing up a first-rounder will feel awkward while bringing back Bazemore's salary. He's far from a bargain at $19.3 million in 2018-19 (player option). But Exum is owed about the same over the next two years ($19.2 million), and his pay grade tilts closer to bad money after spending the season waffling in and out of head coach Quin Snyder's "You're Not Really Going to Play Much" house.
The Jazz can look at this deal as salary-cap consolidation. Paying Bazemore cleans up the 2020 books, and the Jazz could still get to almost $25 million in cap space this summer if they waive Derrick Favors. They'll dredge up even more than that should they waive Kyle Korver or reroute the salaries of Tony Bradley or Grayson Allen.

Two protected first-rounders should be enough for the Hawks to absorb Hill and Exum. The latter doesn't turn 24 until July, is a defensive whiz and could end up being a good backup—or backcourt partner—for Trae Young.

That the Hawks wouldn't be (scheduled) to get both picks at once also helps. They're slated to have four total selections in this year's draft. Nabbing a 2020 choice allows them to spread out their talent acquisition and evaluation

Bleacher report stole my trade! Well minus getting exum on the three teamer.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
