The worst year

Post#1 » by Celtsfan1980 » Thu Dec 20, 2018 8:34 pm

The wrestling this year has been amazing. 2018 is not a candidate for me.
1991:I'd say the Roberts-Savage feud is all I remember for the year. Even Japan didn't produce much. Since 1987 when wrestling started to deliver great wrestling matches the Steiners vs. Sting/Luger is the worst Match of the Year. I'd say by a wide margin too. I expect classic matches, feuds, and PayPerViews, and 1991 did not deliver much of anything.
1995:For me the worst year for WWF and WCW. ECW was just okay at this point. Japan was much better than 1991, so overall I'd say wrestling was better. For US wrestling though, I'd say 1995 was the worst. Again producing little in the way of classics hurts.

If we're just talking main roster WWE, it's definitely up there, because WWE was an absolute sh*tshow this year.

Wrestling as a whole, though? No way. NXT was absolutely amazing, NJPW continued to be great, we got a lesser but still fun Lucha Underground, and the indie scene in general has never been stronger despite WWE constantly poaching all the big names only to never do anything with them.

I'd say 1991 is better than 90% of the years that have followed it would be in my top 10 years of wrestling all-time

I was too young to recognize the suckiness, but based on the New Generation Podcast, 95 seems like a real contender, at least for WWE. Mabel main evented a couple PPVs.

1995 was god awful...

Definitely the worst Royal Rumble of the 90's and one of the worst ones all-time. WrestleMania 11 sucked and was built
around NFL players with Lawrence Taylor main eventing against Bigelow.

1995 KOTR sucked especially with a 500 pound monster winning in Mabel.

The only thing watchable during SummerSlam 1995 was the Ladder match rematch of HBK vs. Razor.

WCW was just as horrendous the Dungeon of Doom was beyond cringe and it was the worst year of Hogans career
as he seemed extremely corny and lame and him and Savage's "act" was becoming beyond stale.

The positives of 1995?

- Birth of Nitro and head to head competition and the Monday Night War that started the best era of wrestling history
- Birth of In Your House PPV's. The name and gimmick of the PPVs was stupid but it was nice to see monthly PPVs in the WWF
- Some legendary bad gimmicks/characters that were so bad they were good
- ECW started making some noise and guys like Eddie, Benoit, Jericho etc started making a name for themselves
