I’m fairly sure you will want Mavs winning games before this season ends. ;)

And I'm fairly sure you'll need an eye patch

Gratuitous use of winking emojis aside, don't confuse hope for certainty.

Should I be afraid? ;)

Look, talking totally seriously now, this are the projections, Image

Would you really like that Mavs finished 6th and Atlanta have “only” 60% to get the pick? Is there really that much difference in quality between 6th and 10th pick? I believe Mavs would loved to have 40% odds to get top4 pick. When they inevitably see, they have no chance to make playoffs, the tanking will start.

Yes sir! Mavs bite it again. I predicted this Mavs debacle on the Luka thread. Looking good.

Bob, hope is not certainty.

Forecasts update practically weekly to allow for the input of uhm, reality. Take for instance 538, the Mavericks have increased their wins forecast by 8 from October to now.

Dallas doesn't exist in a vacuum, their hypothetical decision to tank the rest of the season even from this-very-point-right-here does not preclude other teams from: coming to that same conclusion/sustaining injuries to key players/outright sucking. And that is if they actually decide to tank, they could just as inevitably see no difference between giving up the ~16th pick or the ~12th pick and work to give Dirk one last hurrah in the playoffs.

Intention is not execution though. There is no magic switch otherwise the Hawks would not have been sitting around wondering how three other teams managed to suck as bad or worse than them last season. But we get it, you're sure that not only will the Hawks not get a top 4 pick but the Mavericks will because...." "?

I only meant, based on how Mavs are playing at the moment, especially on the road, that you shouldn’t worry about Mavs being too good. I would worry they eventually lose to many games, if I were you. I agree, all that are only speculations, anything can happen in next 50 games.

Really? I agree with you but I'm surprised to hear you say you think the Mavs will hit a skid.

There again the further we go into the season the more i'm amazed how effective Luka is and all the attention he will draw will result in a lot of easy shots for one of the greatest shot makers of all time.

Plus, Cuban isn't afraid to take on salary to bolster the team.

Mavs are disastrous on the road, you cannot do much in the West, if you cannot win any road games. DSJ didn't improve much, is injured and if he plays, doesn't fit well with Luka, because he cannot play off ball. DJ is great rebounder, but doesn't even care to play D. Barnes is very one-dimensional and Dirk is at the moment more a problem than a solution, he just doesn't fit on the bench and looks totally out of shape. He makes the bench worse not better. West is crazy, there is not a single easy opponent, I just cannot see Mavs wining more than 40 games. And if they see playoffs is of the books, why not tank a little and have around 30% for top4 pick?

Yeah I didn't understand how Luka was going to work with DSJ but sounds like he isn't. (i haven't seen a lot of mavs). They need a Ron Harper style PG on that team. Bembry might be a good fit there.

Mavs drafted a decent PG option last year in NCAA Player of the Year Jalen Brunson. In a handful of spot starts, he's played capably and looks like a keeper.

I predict they'll aim for an off ball weapon a la Beal or Klay. Someone who's a shooter from deep, a threat without the ball, can finish in transition and is willing to defend the opposing SFs/SGs so Luka won't have to.

The Hawks want the 6th to 8th pick from Dallas. Whatever the greatest odds for that to happen, so be it. I remember the Clips finishing with the 9th worst record (4.5%) and still won the odds to select Griffin.

More power to Dallas if that were to happen for them. Sometimes you can't stop fate and the will of our previous commish. I'm comfortable playing the percentages as the Mavs can't possibly finish worse than 8th or 9th with all these bad and fading teams this season.
