I love hearing about his commitment to defense...but MJ was already retired (for the 2nd time) when Zion was born.
Was Zion just watching old YouTube videos?
I like the kid, but this story doesn't add up at all.
I've got my eye on you, ZW.

Sounds more like his Dad/Mom was an MJ fan that probably had him watching loads of MJ tape.

I'm impressed they didn't have him watching old videotape of Reggie White.
Spoiler:
God bless the adult who guided this behemoth of a young man from the football diamond to the basketball field.

Changed the course of this young man's life...and possibly the NBA?

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
J Culver has the feel of the kind of collegiate GSW would have drafted back in the day.

2. Whoever would legitimately take RJ Barrett over Zion Williamson needs to have his head examined.
3. Coach K needs to actually start coaching, because there is no way Barrett should get 22 shots (0 for 7 on 3 point shots) to score 16 points. Zion Williamson scores 17 on 9 shots, is a better passer, has a better feel for the game, and is a much better defender.
In fact, my top two guys right now would be Zion Williamson and Jarrett Culver. This is such a weak draft though.
Im not at the point where I put Culver top 5, I still have questions on his overall potential. But I do like him a lot and have him around 10 or so. Agree 100% on everything else you said. A few days ago I came on here talking about how very unimpressed I have been with RJ even with his latest string of good games (against horrible opponents). It was clear that those stats wouldnt translate to better competition because of the kind of shots he was getting. RJ has talent but needs a major overhaul on how he attacks and plays the game.
I also agree that K needs to come in and lay down the law. It is night and day difference when the offense runs through RJ or when it runs through Zion or Tre Jones. When Zion and Tre are in the game, RJ needs to play off the ball and let Tre and Zion run the show.
Here is a crazy stat, after tonight's game RJ has 124 missed field goal attempts. Zion has ATTEMPTED 141. RJ has almost as many misses as Zion has attempts, that is beyond horrible.
I also agree that this is a really weak draft. Zion is definitely a shining star though in my opinion.
I agree. I'm not one to buy into AAU hype and all this so and so is the next great one bull that usually comes out of the media, so I went into the season with a relatively less than favorable review on Zion because of the hype that was behind him and how it was solely based on his athleticism.
This guy's feel for the game is f'n impressive though. He makes the right plays. You can trust him to make the right pass. You can trust him to know when to attack and when to fall back. Defensively, he's a big time playmaker with a load of potential.
Right now, it's Zion and a large gap between he and the next best guy. That gap isn't going to close either. The guy has a freaking 40 PER with a near 20 BPM.

Oh, I also hate that the media is already trying to drive a Zion to the Knicks narrative. If the Knicks get the #1 pick, everything is rigged.

But dont let all this distract you ftom Zion being all hype and a product of the AAU system. You remember you boldly told all of us this? Now he's your number 1 prospect? You may not remember, but pepper ridge farm remembers...lol

And we could possibly get both of them. I’m curious how tall Culver is. He’s listed at 6’5 but I’ve heard he’s closer to 6’8.
*Age at the start of next season*
G - Trae Young (21 years old)
G - Kevin Huerter (21 years old)
F - Jarrett Culver (20 years old)
F - Zion Williamson (19 years old)
C - John Collins (22 years old)

That would be a helluva coup for Trav to garner in a 25 month span.

CP War Hawks wrote:Bro, this Culver is having a good game vs. Duke. The thing is he looks huge, every bit of 6-7 200. Seems to dwarf Barrett somewhat. It's a game changer if he measures like that during the combine.
Digging on google, I found this article about his size.

^Yeah, the article CP mentioned goes into great detail about how Culver is likely taller than his listed size.
GREAT detail.

...and I stated that in the post above yours. Unlike most, I don't base my opinion off hype. I wait to see the player actually compete and play. Zion has stood out head and shoulders above everyone else when I see him play. If he had a jump shot, he'd be an all time elite prospect.

Culver will be long gone by the time Hawks use that Mav’s pick, unfortunately.

We could possibly trade up. Where do you see Culver going compared to where the Mavs pick lands?

There isn't a really good one that doesn't bring significant weaknesses in other aspects in this draft. Keep in mind this as well. Look at who has started at center during Golden State's golden years and who has played the majority of the center minutes. There is this myth that Golden State is the bastion of small ball, but really, they have had Andrew Bogut and Zaza Pachulia as their starters and main minute getters at center. Draymond can play it, but he plays it only 18% of the time (last year's data).
Omari is likely a bench/rotational guy going forward. Some are going to say Bol Bol, and I may just puke on that idea.
If it were me, I'd offer whatever pick we get if it isn't #1 for JJJ.

I'm going to stick with my prediction Jontay Porter is the center Schlenk will go after.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
The more I watch Brandon Clarke, the more impressed I become with him. I'm more convinced now that he can become that new age Draymond Green type of Center.
I'm worried now that he has moved from a late 1st round or early 2nd round pick, and might make his way as a low lottery pick come draft night.

It's semantics, but Draymond Green is a power forward that plays less than 10 minutes a game as a small ball center.
