We won the mediocre battle, but we are yet to win the mediocre war.

Any other team would have benched Batum by now but somehow he keeps starting for this team. He is the worst starter in the league

A win is a win. Much better than watching play awesome basketball for a half and lose the way they lost against the f*eaking knicks

I would love to start bridges over him and give him all of his playing time.

I'm convinced we are only playing him to try to con some other team into taking him off our hands. He obviously sucks and will be hard to move but benching him will make it even tougher. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

I don't think I ever hated a hornets/bobcats player more than Boris Diaw but Nic Batum is sure trying hard to be the most hated with his not giving a **** play.

It's interesting that we have Batum guard the lead guard and hide Kemba on the worst perimeter threat. I feel like JB has challenged Batum to step his D up. He was super active tonight on D, I actually was pretty impressed with his play.

The Hornets now have a 1.5-game lead over Miami. It would help if the team could get a real streak going. Beat Boston, then Brooklyn twice. It can be done, but not if they play the way they did the last two games--just sloppy overall. It was not fun to watch tonight.

D up who?

its nice when there's no one to guard but we know that batum in front of any legit scorer is just getting bodied for a full 48

Does anyone else think we may be a better team if Willy started over CZ? I just do not understand what CZ provides to the starting lineup other than running aimlessly and setting screens. He basically has no BB skills and is usually dominated by any below average center. He may be slightly better than Willy on D but Willy's rebounding and scoring ability would more than offset his weaker D.

Willy makes too many dumb fouls and his defense isn't even worth mentioning. Cody can close out on shooters too a bit - Willie can barely get out of the way of layups.

I don't like this version of Cody. But Willie is thoroughly unimpressive across the board.

I mean he was excellent on D last night, which is a pretty big change from the norm.

Willy's advanced stats show a 2.2 BPM with a 2.5 OBPM and -0.3 DBPM. Those are solid numbers for a starting center. He's only 24 and has room to grow.

Zeller's advanced stats show a 3.0 BPM with a 1.2 OBPM and 1.8 DBPM. This is his best season thus far in BPM and OBPM.

Rebound % is Zeller 13.1 compared to Willy 18.9. That has to do with who they are playing beside since the starting lineup has some good rebounders compared to the bench.

It's a close call and if the team doesn't look playoff worthy, I'd make the switch. Zeller's injury history is also at play here. Don't want to give him too much responsibility if we can't rely on him.

those numbers don't show willy in no man's land constantly and completely unaware of how to switch while bumbling into a dumb foul and it doesn't show zeller's girlish flailing when he gets denied at the rim

there's no stat for soft or lost af - and that's what both of those guys are

against who?

detroit has no wings and their most dangerous perimeter guy, reggie jackson, is a self-defeating moron with the ball recognized across the entire league

im generally all about positives after a win but batum doesn't get props for staying near reggie bullock

He didn't guard Bullock. Did you watch the game? He was on Jackson, when they ran a PNR he often got switched on to Blake or Drummond.

I'm not saying that DET is a great offensive team, I'm saying that Batum showed unusually high defensive effort, and given how he was used on D it's pretty clear that he was told he needed to do that.
