Man, the Reds are all-in on this dumb plan to turn a really awful team into a competitor overnight in a tough division, with a whole pile of older players who'll expire this year or next.

Looks like Harper is going to the Dodgers. Machado to the Yankees?? How is that **** fair? MLB you suck!

Must be nice to be a team stacked with talent and have the ability to add to that talent pool. It's going to suck watching our beloved Blue Jays lose 80 to 90 games this upcoming season. With the Yankees and Red Sox in the same division we might as well forfeit the next several seasons cause we have no chance of competing against them.

Way to get ahead of yourself. Machado isn’t even making a decision until January.

I didn't realize Votto is 35, will be 36 in September. Is almost like they're just doing it for him but he could start his decline anytime.

Also, if Homer Bailey can get traded anyone can get traded, -1.5 bwar last year.

He's likely already in decline, really. It's to his immense credit that he remained as good as he has into his mid 30s, but it's unlikely he returns to being elite at any point. That's why this is so bizarre: it'd have been a bad decision when Votto was 32 and exceptionally good to go for some sort of last hurrah. When he's in his age 35 season, having come off a down year? It's madness. I only hope that we can move someone like Stroman to them for a couple prospects or some such.

Sounds like an idea Alex Anthopoulos tried twice, the first being a costly flop, the second a modest but short-lived success followed by a descent into mediocrity and ultimately oblivion.

Is there some sort of compensation pick the Reds can get for these players if they don't re-sign?

The Padres and Blue Jays are reportedly discussing a deal that would send Marcus Stroman to the friendly confines of San Diego, per sources close to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi.

-mlbtr

The Padres are determined to add at least one more starting pitcher this offseason and have one of the best farm systems in baseball from which to trade. While San Diego's most elite prospects -- Fernando Tatis Jr., MacKenzie Gore and Francisco Meija -- likely won't be sent to the Blue Jays if a deal is completed, pitching prospects Michel Baez and/or Logan Allen could be involved.

Do they measure height in San Diego? :dontknow:

I'd be happy to take back a young arm in that range... maybe a little more for the Stro Show. Round out our rotation this year with a few 1-year veteran deals. Add more growth/talent for the emerging 2020-21 teams.

I’d generally prefer to trade Sanchez, but unfortunately, I doubt he has much value.

Pretty impressed by the array of pitching prospects in the Friars' system.

Yes, please. Don't be put off by Baez's position as their 7th-best prospect: they just have a tonne of good prospects. Baez is about 100 feet tall, can hit 99 on the gun, and would immediately become our best pitching prospect.

Off to youtube I go.

mlb.com has/had him in the top 100 prospects last january , gives an idea how deep their system is.

Came here to write this exact thing about Baez. We need to do this and cash in on Giles, too, while we're at it.

Trade arguably one of your best starting pitchers and one that is liked by the city and your fans for a couple of mid-tier prospects who may or may not pan out in the majors. Brilliant idea!

Look to solidify the rotation not break it up. Idiots running this organization.
