Hot Topic - Quite Frankly; All Things Frank

Frank seems to be the lightning rod of this season. A player that is polarizing because his approach to team basketball and defense as been excellent but he has not really panned out with the kind of individual offensive game you'd hope for from a high pick. It would make sense that his performance and minutes would be evaluated game to game but too often post game threads and other threads become overwhelmed with Franktalk at the expense of talking about other aspects of the game.

This is a thread to have it out a bit over him (within TOS, of course) so that other threads can breathe a bit. What do you think of this guy? What should his future be in NY???

Look, I want to give Frank that chance to break, I'm a defense first fan and he brings that, but on that same note you can hurt your team when the opponents only has to defend 4 guys. Not having confidence in this game can be a problem, is it fixable? Yes, but nobody can help you with it, you have to want to fix it otherwise it will get worse. He has the form, he has the knowledge of where to be on the court, he shows he can be aggressive, but he needs to put it all together. But how long do we have to wait? NY City is not known for patience and if he doesn't show improvement than fans are going to call for his head. We need consistency and effort from him, I'm willing to wait until Feb 2020 deadline for him to show improvement, if he can't handle NY than maybe he needs to ride out.

Let him play out his rookie deal and see where he stands. Id say if you were of the mindset to trade him, after next season would be a good time to evaluate that.

Its no secret that I am a big Frank fan. Think what he has to start defensively is something you cant teach any player. Jump shots and offense will come in time in my opinion. I think he has , although everrrr so slightly , improved this year. Hes branching out of this comfort zone and its good to see.

He's only 20 and even if Fiz doesnt see him as rotation piece (which he has stated on the record that he sees Frank as a rotation player) , it would behoove the Knicks to keep him around for the entirety of his Rookie deal. The upside he has is just insane.

I think its more likely than not that he will develop into a reliable 3 point shooter. When that happens , he's a good to great player due to what he brings on the defensive side.

Plus well spoken, European , hard working, raised as a professional basketball player. I think Frank will succeed and it is way too early to bail on him entirely. He is and always has been a project player.

Keep him until he retires. If he ain't great, he will settle for a low extension anyways. You can always use his defensive skills.

I wonder if the team or the fans have the patience for a player like him. I’m not saying he will be anywhere near as good but Steve Nash really didn’t start dominating till he was 30. He didn’t even break 10ppg till he was 26 or 10apg till he was 30. There are still flashes but also a lot of disappointment. What I worry most about him is his ability to freelance and see the game 2+ steps ahead.

Right now he feels like he is still learning the game. I think that’s what Fiz wants most from him to to feel the game not think it. He kinda reminds me of someone learning to play an instrument. He knows the theory of what to do but he doesn’t trust enough to play without looking at the keys/ strings. On defense you can see he just flows, especially last year.

Hopefully Fitz can figure him out before it’s too late otherwise the Knicks will have just wasted a pick and the potential of a possible DPOY level player.

Fact is we cant trade him because his value is at an all time low and signing a defender of his calibur would cost more anyway.

Just leave him alone. I hate how much attention there is on him.

His value is low, he ain't gonna cost much to keep. Just stash him and let him grow.

At least he can play in games. I can only imagine the pandemonium if the Knicks traded a 1st to move up and pick Fultz.

if he sucks then nobody is going to trade for him, and if a team think he still has a chance then shouldn't it be the knicks that give it to him?

i always accepted he'll be a role player that played defense and can run the point off the bench.

that's perfectly fine.

Frank is being forced to be something he's not thanks to the self proclaimed Mr Fix It.

Frank is the perfect PG for KP, not some attacking scorer like Mud, Trey, etc. It's a real shame that Frank will get traded soon bc Pills thinks Mud is the PG of the future. Thankfully, we'll see Frank flourish w a team w some semblance of an offensive system and appreciation for his length n D

Think you have to develop him in the long run to be a player like Batum style wise. 3 and D wing who can play make a bit too. His shot has to come around. Though I do want to develop him at PG for the rest of this year just to get him experience playmaking for others. Don't trade him since you wont get much value. His greatest value to us is developing him and hope his shot comes around.

If word isn't out that he's trash (I think it is) trade him now. I'm thinking that won't work. No one with even half a brain is dumb enough to give up anything valuable for someone that is garbage and is showing zero improvement (and has actually declined).

Develop him until his rookie contract ends then see if he has place on roster.
What hurts me the most is you can see he has the moves, the size and speed to get to anywhere on the floor at will. Only problem is he has absolutely no confidence. Dude is lost and I'm not sure even a longer tenure at G League would give him confidence.

I think NY is probably part of the problem. He's not in a forgiving environment for a struggling young player. The fans love him now but if another offseason come and goes with no improvement they'll turn. They're already starting to turn.

You're probably right. And probably nobody knows how to utilize him. I think we should have just locked him in the gym develop reliable 3ball and use him as 3 & D guy until he matures and realizes what he can do with the ball in his hands. Now he is broken down because he wasn't ready for running offense and got trashed for that.

Hire Dave Hopla or Craig Hodges as a shooting coach, and have Frank work primarily on his 3 point shot. If he can become reliable from deep, it’ll open up driving lanes for himself and his teammates. As it stands now, opponents sag, forcing him to pass around the perimeter. Wouldn’t trade him while his value is this low.

Frank is a guy who looks great on a good team and looks terrible on a bad team. He's a beta and we need alphas so if a right deal comes along, I'd trade him.
