Army gave Oklahoma all they could handle earlier this year.
11-2, great year.
Houston is a train wreck. I don't think the Houston fanbase is or has been very enthralled with Major Applewhite.

On a somewhat related note, I read where Strong was dismissing 11 players and 4 assistants after their loss. Is that general house cleaning or is there some story to that?
think i read that he had suspended 11 players for their bowl, so assuming those same players.

Houston is without their star QB and Oliver. Their performance was dreadful but let's not overkill it. Army is a very good team this year.

The Knights have been ranked in every AP poll since Oct. 1, 2017.

Has anyone heard how Ucf ticket sales for the Fiesta bowl are going?

Nothing specific, but from the Slantinel this morning....
https://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/ucf-knights/fiesta-bowl/os-sp-ucf-fiesta-bowl-1226-story.html
Nealy said ticket sales for the game have been strong.
“We’re not at a sellout, for sure, but UCF fans should get credit because it’s a long distance to go and I know the airlines didn’t do us any favors,” he said. “UCF has done strong with their tickets. If I was to guess, they’ll be at or above the LSU number based on the demand we’re seeing.
“We’ll have a full stadium and there will be plenty of UCF fans there.”

Maybe that is his way of saying that both schools sold some of their tickets, but definitely not all, and the Fiesta committee will be giving tickets away before the game.
Neither school fanbase can travel easily to Phoenix .... and the attendance by each fanbase will suffer.
What a shame that "these teams" are forced to play there as the logistics are just insanely bad.

I’m going to the game but it’s a big time wallet buster compared to Atlanta. If we get 20k there I’d be surprised.

LSU is kinda a short flight to phoenix, They pretty much just to have pass Texas and they close.

well, 3.5 hours. I wouldnt exactly call that short, and that is from New Orleans. no direct flights from BAton Rouge, so talking about 6+ hours flying from there.

The Baton Rouge area folks also faced $800-900 flights.

ugh, really gotta love your team for that money. reminds me of our game against Texas at the Rose bowl. the flight prices and hotel prices, not even counting the ticket prices, was astounding

Wisconsin crushed Miami as Jonathan Taylor finished his 2000 yard season.
Next year one needs to favor him for the Heisman, assuming Wisconsin does not lose the bonehead games they lost this year.
GO BUCKY!

The amazing thing is what I read about back in the 70's, where flight times were almost half of what they are now. Evidently, Airlines save so much more in fuel cost by flying slow, thus the flight times have almost doubled so they can save money.

Yea I saw a stat that said one year an airline added 2 minutes to all of their flights and it saved them $13m. We see the same things with our cars, i think the optimum speed for fuel consumption is around 60-65mph, but I say screw it and go 80.

I agree. I could have bought an economical car, but when I saw that F150 Harley Edition being sold cheap by some guy in Melbourne, I couldn't help myself. I figure being I paid cash for it and it had low mileage and I also have a company car, this truck can last me a long time and have low maintenance issues. But, every time I get in that truck, I sit back and smile while I truly enjoy my ride cruising 80 down the highway.

Your post is a classic example of, whereas Americans (oddly) think fuel costs are high, they are historically low in the USA.
I pay 58p per litre in tax on car gasoline, called petrol here. And that gets a 20% VAT tax (yes in the UK we are paying tax on a tax). Plus of course we are actually paying for the fuel. Today petrol is £1.30 per litre. Which is quite low for the UK given recent history.
That is about US$8-10 per gallon to buy gasoline in the UK - and I just called that low, and it is broadly at that level most western countries except Canada and the USA. Fuel is very, very low cost in the States.
So, yeh, why not drive 80 mph ??? given the low costs in wasting fuel to do so ????????
p.s. You said, "Yea I saw a stat that said one year an airline added 2 minutes to all of their flights ..." This is the same UK airline that wanted to charge £1 to use the toilet. And asked the EU if passengers could fly standing (some sort of roller coaster harness holding passengers, rather than sitting them) !!!
The UK's worst airline by customer satisfaction, Ryanair, is also its most popular as actually flying is bottom cost.

In part this is more about the airlines making a buffer time to ensure that they are "on time". If actually on time, they fly slow to save money. And if "late" they fly at a normal speed to catch up the (not) lost time.
This is a very complex issue for airlines, as paying airline/flight staff is still more expensive than fuel costs.

My comment was just more along the lines of how we're blissfully unaware of how much speed can impact fuel consumption. Even when gas was $5 a gallon here, which was high for here, people were more likely to buy a new car for fuel economy than slow down, lol.
i definitely recognize our fuel costs are lower here compared to other countries, especially right now when it's very low even for us, though we require a lot more fuel for our daily activities than other countries. Europe has far better public transit systems in place, and because things are more clustered together (compared to here where everything is spread out), you guys don't necessarily need a personal car. Places like NYC are like that too, but most places in the States I think are more like Orlando, spread out, very little in effective public transportation, so citizens need cars.
At least Orlando now has Uber, Lyft, etc. Before that it was really drive everywhere, cause cabs were few and far inbetween.
