Worst thing is that you know TS and his guys scouted. Got to watch Doncic rake up MVPs as a 19 year old in a tough pro league and still missed. Trae could still blow up and make him a genius....................
Doncic is so far ahead that he's turning that #6 pick into #19 a third through the season. Would you have traded #3 for #5 and #19 last year or just taken the guy with the MVPs; the consensus pick?

Predicting it at #19 again is a bit unfair as no one is currently projecting it to be that high (and it currently sits at #11).
Would I have traded #3 for #5 and #11...maybe.
But you only do it if you don't believe the BPA is going to be great.

I wanted Doncic. As of now Doncic looks like the better pick but he reminds me of Joe Johnson. Trae could still have a higher ceiling if he reach his max. So, I'm not made at TS for trying to go for a higher ceiling type of player.

I've already said that I think DAL will fade. So far they haven't and Doncic is killing it. It REALLY looks like TS traded a potential super-star, Dirk level player. As I said, Doncic is playing so well that he is severely affecting the return on the trade. That's sticking it to TS twice.
The biggest question to me is, our GM scouted and traded Doncic. You and I both seem to be very high on Don and only optimistically luke-warm on Trae and the trade. most people had Don and Ayton #1 and #2 and what did TS do?.......
And yeah, to get comparable draft value #3 is worth #5 and about #8-11. All that's out the window though if one of the three is for real.

My only impatience with Trae, at the moment, is his Shot Selection.
As for the actual trade - Ask me again after the 2019 draft - Trae will have COMPLETED his 1st year and we'll know where the Dallas pick ends up.Trae Young came back in for the Hawks late in the second and did a good job of getting into the paint. One of the big stories of the second though was Young’s first three-point attempt in six quarters (which he missed). Young is definitely making a concerted effort to get in the lane and make plays first, scoring second which is a great mindset for him to be in as he continues to struggle with his shooting from beyond the arc.

He didn't launch a 3 for the 1st time ever in the Knicks Game, then in the Detroit game took some bad shots in the 2nd half. There's a reason he was benched in favor of Lin to end the game.
His shot selection leaves a lot to be desired.

The only reason everyone said Trae had a higher ceiling than Luka was because Luka is a white European player. The is the only reason. Just xenophobic garbage.

That’s a load of bull. People have been questioning his ceiling because where does he go from here (at that time). He was easily the most polished and experienced 19 year old I can remember coming into the NBA. He’s already physically well developed (6’8” 230-ish).
Trae, Bagley, JJJ, and Bamba can all make huge strides in areas they’re clearly weak. All of them still require varying degrees of physical training to be able to compete at their best.
Doncic doesn’t seem to have any huge issues to really work on.

I dont understand that rationale. "Because you're really good already, we dont think you'll get much better." Um, ok.

Having opinions contrary to your own does not make one a troll. Suggesting that Luka being white and European may be part of the reason why teams passed on him is not trolling, it is a fair point.

You have to want to understand. You thought it was based on race. That’s pure BS.personanongrata wrote:EazyRoc wrote:personanongrata wrote:The only reason everyone said Trae had a higher ceiling than Luka was because Luka is a white European player. The is the only reason. Just xenophobic garbage.

Nice to see the toxicity from the old country has made its way here. Yay. Now I feel more at home. I used to say this on the defunct forum so I think it's only right I say it here: In before the lock!

It's not BS though. Just like executives admitted that Jeremy Lin may have been overlooked because he was Asian. I am not saying they would avoiding certain players based on race, but preconceived notions about certain groups can influence decisions. That has been proven in several studies.

Poor choice of wording, but valid point. It does exist and influence, unfortunately

"I say it all the time: He's playing more like a multiyear veteran than a 19-year-old rookie," said Dirk Nowitzki, the longtime face of the Mavericks franchise who is passing the torch to Doncic.
I think Dirk summed it up. Short & sweet. Now who do you think will have a perceived higher ceiling ? The 19 year old that’s already playing like a multi year vet or the significantly raw-er 19 year old ?

this 19 years old vet is averaging, 32mpg/ 24.3ppg / 6.5 reb / 7.8 ast / 1.3 stl / 2.3 to / TS=57.4% / USG= 28.5% in last 6 games.
He's visually not in the best shape, his conditioning is one of the worst of all rookies. He has one of the biggest room for improvement in body department. Shooting is matter of repetition, so he has big room for improvement there too, like all rookies have. Then you have shot selection, experience playing in NBA...
But let's say his ceiling is what he's producing at the moment, 24.3/6.5/7.8/1.3. How many players in the league is having that kind of numbers?
Now you can continue how a 19 years old vet with All-star numbers has lower ceiling than random rookie.
Btw. Luka is in December better than Trae in everything, including assists.

Im not a huge fan of cherrypicked numbers. They don’t mean anything in this context.
I do agree with Luka working on his body, but it’s not because he’s weak or undersized like most 19 year olds. I also do expect him to make strides in all the ways you mentioned.
The difference in skill/game between 19 year old Luka and prime-Luka isn’t expected to be as large as say..19 year old Trae and prime-Trae. I don’t get how this is hard to understand.

EZ Roc,
iT'S OKAY. He isn't worth the time. He's not a Hawk fan and he's here for the sole purpose of riling up actual Hawk fans.
If you ignore him, he'll get bored and go harass the Suns Board.
He isn't worth the time or effort to argue with.
