Ok. I'll bite. Yes. Other players thinking he's really good does in fact make him a draw.

Then why hasn't anyone gone to play with him in New York yet?

Ok. Let's back things way up. Do you know that the NBA has a salary cap? That is, each team a set amount of salary money that, once met/exceeded by a team's salary commitments, a team cannot offer significant money to free agents?

Do you know that the NBA allows teams to trade players? That is, each team can trade players/picks from their team in exchange for players on other teams. Why hasn't any player demanded a trade to the Knicks if Porzingis is such a draw?

Because the Knicks have been awful and trading away all their good complementary players and assets to get a star would result in a team that is still bad with no avenues to get better.

The lure of playing in NY & MSG, pretty much. When you're winning/relevant, there aren't many better places to be than NY.

He hasn't played game in ages and no one knows when he's coming back. He was also pretty poor outside of the first 11 games or so last year and has been critical of the Knicks. Pretty sure he has to return this year and be good, before any FA factors a fellow FA into their decision.

Even then he’s still the best draw as a teammate on either team

Not sure I agree at all with that..what relationship does he have with stars? I know LeVert is adored by Durant.

Honestly, the biggest draw for the Knicks should be Wall St. If players aspire to be billionaires and not just broke. I guess you could technically do it anywhere but unless you are going to take time to educate yourself, Wall St. (like Silicon Valley with the Warriors) gives you access to the money makers and might allow you to get in on the ground floor of the next Google or Amazon.

jokeboy86 wrote:With the Irving/Butler/KD talk you always hear about the Knicks but why not the Nets? I get the Knicks have Porzingis but outside of that wouldn't the Nets be the better option especially with the foundation they've built from a coaching and roster standpoint. I think more than any other team so far the Nets have been the surprise of the year. Also even with the whole Billy King debacle you could make an argument that the Nets have been the (slightly)better of the two franchises for the past 20 years.

Because its the knicks, its MSG. their franchise, as sad as it may have been the last 10-20 years, is still an enormous draw for fans and players. players still rave about playing in MSG as opponents.

the nets arent there yet.

also, it doesnt matter who is on either team. if KD/butler/irving/kahwi or whomever team up somewhere that team becomes a contender overnight

I don't think either team has high prospects for this years FA crop but that's the main basketball reason.

What if Nets manage to make the playoffs do you think that could sway some players? Also Porzingis's health kind of scares me. Not cause of this particular injury but because of guys his size and more importantly his frame.

making the playoffs is irrelevant since all the guys who would help the nets make the playoffs would need to be renounced or traded to get 2 max slots

Manhattan is still what people think of when they think of New York.

Brooklyn is so close you would just live in NY anyway. I think it's probably the advertisement and the MSG that puts Knicks ahead.

Tyson Chandler after the Mavs title too.

You could basically say Melo too. And though he was done you could add Noah to the list.

You can easily argue that the Knicks only acquired Chandler, Amare and Noah because their original teams didn't want to pay them due to their age/injury history. And we all know how those contracts ended up turning out.

They are losing-est franchise this millennium and haven't won a title in 40+ years.

Is it just MSG?

Knicks vs Nets games in Brooklyn are pretty much Knicks home games.

It's a fair weather game. Who has the stars ? Bring one, they'll turn. What has the ravenous fanbase at the Garden done for the Knicks? Nada.
