Doncic has 'it'. This is a generational player. Goat prospect from Europe ever.
Ayton does not have it. All I see in Ayton is a mechanical physical player who does his things well but doesn't impact the game. Cut rate Towns with worse defensive instincts.
Doesn't even matter what the stat says now or at the end of the season. 30/30 GMs would take Doncic over Ayton today.

Such pronouncements! You are hilarious.
Listen. Doncic is great. But to rip on Ayton like this has no basis in reality. Not in future prospects or present reality. He is literally dominating games presently. The moment he steps on the floor he changes the game.

that combo would be deadly in today's game.
Doncic wouldn’t be looking as good as he does right now. Well he may but his numbers would be way down because his usage would be way down.
He’s the number 1 option on Dallas, there’s no way he would walk in and take over as the number 1 option as a rookie on a guy averaging 25/4/7. He’d be able to playmake and help Booker a lot with the playmaking duties and they’d probably have a lethal offensive combination.
However, they’d also have by far the worst perimeter defense in the league, they are blessed to have Bridges out there as one of the best wing defenders in the league already to help Booker.
I think both teams got the right guy that fits their situations better.

The posters pretending like Doncic is on some different tier than some of the other top rookies like Ayton, Jackson, etc. is the craziest thing.

Suns fans, has the team/coach changed anything in particular that helped Ayton explode in the last several games? Booker came back, yes, but even before Booker got injured Ayton didn't play as well as he does now.

To be honest, no.
He still isn’t getting anywhere near as many touches as he should be getting on offense. A lot of his points have been solely generated from himself.
He scored a lot in the 2nd yesterday when Booker was on the bench but he still needs someone to run the point and feed him because Booker goes too iso when they are on the floor together and no one else even knows how to run a pick n roll outside of Josh Jackson.
He’s averaging nearly 6 offensive boards a game recently which have mainly been tip ins. He has one of the highest, 2nd effort jumps I’ve ever seen of a basketball player and he just seems to be using his strength and settling into how the league works.
He is using his aggression on offense much more than he was earlier in the season where he looked passive and disinterested. He has been excellent on defense all through December too which is positive.
The big change for me has been how engaged the team looks and how much happier and free flowing with improved the chemistry has looked without Chandler and Ariza.
It should be a lesson to all poor teams, you can get vet leaders but make sure they are actually leaders and not just guys looking for a cheque like Chandler and Ariza were when they played here.

Come on man, Jackson Jr just for example has looked like Anthony Davis 2.0 at times.
Just using one guy as an example, Jackson Jr's best games are no less impressive than Luka's best games like his 36 and 8 boards vs the Nets (with a 3 pointer to sent the game to OT) or the 27 points vs the Lakers (including step back 3 on Lebron to ice the game).
Luka is just more consistent right now because he's a 5 year pro plus he and Trae are the only rooks who have the keys to their offense but all the top rooks are equally great at their peaks.

Don't worry I see a Wiggins when I see one. Ayton is basically a Wiggins lite at C.

So Luka was pro with 14 years?

Re: 2018/19 ROY/Rookie Discussion Thread (Pt 2)
Brrrrrrooooooohhhhhhh......s......
There's probably already been a thread on this, but holy moly. I was watching live at the end of that Pelicans-Mavs game when DSJ went to the hole and missed the shot after the buzzer, but I just now saw the down-court angle. Luka looks over at the bench as Smith makes his move to the hole, like, "Coach, wtf?" I knew it was probably called for Luka, or some kind of option, but that reaction made it seem pretty clear that the play was called exclusively for Doncic. Not to mention DSJ taking his jersey off within seconds of the horn, and his clear chagrin on the walk back to the locker room. And, of course, Doncic actually shouted, "What the f#$$!" pretty vehemently to no one in particular.
I thought the Mavs had resolved their hierarchy issues, but apparently not. This is coming from someone who's seen almost every Mavs game. DeAndre would pick on Doncic a lot earlier in the season (it went much further than that stolen rebound), and Doncic wouldn't get the ball as much as now and would never get it off an inbounds. All that has changed, but I guess there are still wrinkles to be ironed out. Kind of puts the DSJ trade speculation in perspective, too. Sheesh.
After studying his Euro balling for months predraft, I knew Doncic was a legit #1 talent, but there was a moment this season when I knew he would be fine on the mental side, too. DeAndre, as I said, would mess with him a lot during games, and there was one time when Doncic was shooting free throws, and he reached his hand out to Jordan for a five in between his first and second shots. DeAndre didn't give him five, and I was like "What... The... Fuuhuhhh...!!!??!" because that's like Basketball Etiquette 101. Then I saw this little half-smile creep across Doncic's face, and I knew in a flash, Doncic knows he's better than DeAndre, and he thinks it's funny that DeAndre thinks he's better than Doncic. At that moment I felt pretty confident the kid would be able to handle whatever drama the vets, the press, and the league could throw at him.

Even their peak games I take Lukas, cause he is generating all his shots himself and creating more for his teammates. Luka is putting up a stat line that’s among the best of any teenager in NBA history. And theres a reason Luka has been given the keys to the offense while JJJ is playing 25 minutes.

JJJ's win shares, per, bpm and vorp are identical to Doncic's.
Jackson is a defensive anchor like Doncic's an offensive one.
Yes there is a reason why Doncic's got the keys and Jackson's playing 25 a game, it's coaching.

Great game by Luka, the level of shotmaking he showcases is downright ridiculous. The definition of a "when you need a 2 or 3" go-to guy. He missed some easy shots today and made almost all crazy/ridiculous takes, which of course are not that ridiculous now, because we know he can actually make them. The kid is must watch TV. I'm very high on Ayton and JJJ too, if I'd have to choose the future hall of famers from this draft class, I'd probably choose these three.

i know people don't like the "it" factor and I didn't buy into it until I saw the rocket mav game where Luka has the 8 points. If you watch him long enough, you'll see the "it" about him. He's just a baller. IMO I hope he gets 11th or 12th spot at the all star game.
