Re: Trade Thread: Armchair GMs welcomed
AD can't even carry the Pelicans teams, why would we trade our young players(that are only our good players) plus a 1st for him?
The "team" would still be trash. Trading for AD is a bad idea whether you want to believe it or not.

The best player AD has had is Niko.
Who has he had to help him carry the team?
AD would DOMINATE in the east. 55 easy wins a yr & he'll have players follow him to the 3rd largest market, no doubt.

AD has Niko/Randle and a stud guard in Jrue Holiday.

3 bigs who need wings to get them the ball. they have no wings but jrue holiday who really only showed out vs Portland last season with Rondo. He might be a good combo guard but he isn't carrying anything.
AD has had a bad supporting cast since he's been in NO

Same thing will happen here if they trade all the young players for him. We'll be Pelicans 2.0
If he wants to come here he can come via free agency.

What sort of return are you looking for? Looking at your roster I don't think there's an obvious piece that makes sense. I guess the most likely thing is whether you'd want to give up your 1st in return for us taking on one of Johnson or Whiteside.
Yeah I don't think I'd be willing to give a first, but was hoping we could maybe unload any combination of Dragic, T.Johnson, and Whiteside

Why would we take on salary with no compensation?

Hoping for the same after his legacy vs money comments.
AD comes to a team with WCJ/Markannen/Lavine/Dunn still on the roster & we're contending.

I see this sentiment repeated a lot by many including journalists, etc. "The Celtics have the best collection of young players and picks out there." I suppose if you include Tatum perhaps. Otherwise, you have:
- Jaylen Brown, underwhelming, even in his "breakout" year last year was a complementary player, and is in year 3 so about to get a lot more expensive.
- Memphis and Sacramento picks, one of which looks to be low lottery and the other in the playoffs. Even if both are low lottery, you're looking at what - a 2-5% chance of a top pick? And if it's Sac at #1 it goes to PHL?
- Rozier who's about to hit RFA and is another complementary player?
Is a combo of that really enticing the Pelicans? Would they really want that over say Lauri (more attractive from age, performance, skills, contract than Brown), Bulls #1 (much higher than either of the MEM/SAC picks)? Unless NO has a hardon for Hayward, I don't see it. And that's before you factor in Ainge insisting on something like unprotected future firsts to make sure he wins the deal. The real competition IMO is LAL who can offer Ingram & Ball, but even that given Ingram in yr3 and neither really showing out as a potential franchise guy seems at best even with the Bulls if they decide to go all in with WCJ+Lauri+#1.
I would do whatever it takes to bring home AD! Even WCJ + Lauri + 1st! 101%
I probably would too, but a team that consists of Dunn, Lavine, ?, Portis, AD feels like a bad team.
With Randall and Niko in the mix already for NO, I'd try Zach/WCJ/1st for AD instead. Dunn, ?, ?, Lauri, AD feels like a better foundation.
yeah I agree 100%,dont get me wrong! They would be jammed at PF with Niko and Randall already there.. but If that would be what they want I would do it! I would much rather trade Zach too instead of Lauri or WCJ.. we could still make another trade or just sign FA players to fill out the 1st lineup. Bench with veteran PG, Harrison, Valentine, Alkins, Hutchinson, Portis would be fine.
Dunn / FA / FA / Markannen / Davis -- I bet that many FA wouldnt think long and hard to join Bulls, when AD would be
here already

If New Orleans decides to trade AD, I don’t see another team that could beat a package the Bulls could offer (maybe Boston, if they include Tatum). My question is, if NO would take one of Carter/Lauri and our pick, which would we prefer to keep? I lean toward Lauri, but Carter/AD could be dominant defensively.

I’d consider Dragic and sweetener. He played his worst basketball before this knee surgery; there’s a chance it was bothering him since October and he’ll come back a little better, to his old self.
But basically it’s a 1y rental. We shouldn’t sign talent yet. None of the 2019 FA stars are coming here (forgone conclusion — delusional to think we have a chance against LAC, LAL and all the contenders wanting to resign their talent: GSW, BOS, PHI, TOR).
If Goran can space and pace next year, he can play alongside Dunn and mentor.
IMO we’re far, far away from A. Davis. No chance he leaves NOP for a lateral move. Are J. Parker and D. Rose gonna give the hometown pitch?

Our best prospects are PF and C, and likely another PF in 2019. Jrue Holiday is a better all-around than Zach and Dunn.

I wouldn't be against a Parker, Holiday, and Felicio for Whiteside, Jones Jr., and Ellington deal.

Re: Trade Thread: Armchair GMs welcomed
I said before that I'd like to trade Portis for Bolden and Korkmaz.
Tonight Bolden played 15 minutes scored 9 points and had 6 rebounds.
Now those aren't huge numbers but if either of those player continue to improve then it'll be harder to trade for them.
Plus Portis will get paid after this season.

Yeah, I liked the Bolden/Korkmaz idea too. Bolden played a good game today.
That said, a lot of Bolden's value as an NBA player so far has been from his offensive rebounding, and we just haven't been doing that all season.

It will be interesting to see what kind of offers Bobby gets and what we do in response. I like him as a player but haven't given him a whole lot of thought this season because I haven't seen him much this year, he's only played like 10 games or so, hard to get a feel for him this year with limited minutes.

Still plenty of time before deadline to get a sense.

I don't believe Holliday and Portis have enough value to warrant a standalone deal. They have much more value packaged together because of their plus shooting and competent defensive level. A contending team that needs depth and shooting (Philly, Houston, OKC, Portland) should be very interested.

I would disagree, but then again what the hell do I know. They both have a body of work and are capable of positive contributions to a winning team and most importantly are on value contracts. Bobby is an especially terrific value at 2.5 mil IMO with RFA protection to boot.
I look at them differently as a bulls fan than maybe a Houston fan would, since my POV is more of a long term team building perspective.
I'm assuming that a fan of a contender would primarily be concerned about "will this guy help us win in the playoffs this season" From a contenders perspective, I think the answer is "yes" for both players, added bonus is that the lower salary might allow them to sneak under the LT to postpone a repeater tax.
Lopez IMO has little to no value except as an expiring, I don't think he brings enough to the table at his salary to help anyone unless we are willing to take on a bad contract in return with and extra year.

The Nets waived Alan Williams. Should the Bulls consider picking him up?

I have to agree that I think we could put up an insanely competitive offer for Davis right now. Here's all the pieces we have.
1. Wendell or Lauri (hopefully Wendell).
2. Our 1st Round Pick
3. Zach LaVine if they want established talent coming back.
4. Parker, Lopez, and Holiday as expiring contracts.
5. Portis and Dunn as potential sweeteners.
We can build a package that few other teams can.
