What game have you been watching? :D He had pretty bad game for his standards. But he did hit some important tough shots again, so there is that.

Bad game? Come on. Okay, maybe not great, but definitely a good game. The 6 TO is a little more than he recently had.

There's probably already been a thread on this, but holy moly. I was watching live at the end of that Pelicans-Mavs game when DSJ went to the hole and missed the shot after the buzzer, but I just now saw the down-court angle. Luka looks over at the bench as Smith makes his move to the hole, like, "Coach, wtf?" I knew it was probably called for Luka, or some kind of option, but that reaction made it seem pretty clear that the play was called exclusively for Doncic. Not to mention DSJ taking his jersey off within seconds of the horn, and his clear chagrin on the walk back to the locker room. And, of course, Doncic actually shouted, "What the f#$$!" pretty vehemently to no one in particular.

I thought the Mavs had resolved their hierarchy issues, but apparently not. This is coming from someone who's seen almost every Mavs game. DeAndre would pick on Doncic a lot earlier in the season (it went much further than that stolen rebound), and Doncic wouldn't get the ball as much as now and would never get it off an inbounds. All that has changed, but I guess there are still wrinkles to be ironed out. Kind of puts the DSJ trade speculation in perspective, too. Sheesh.

After studying his Euro balling for months predraft, I knew Doncic was a legit #1 talent, but there was a moment this season when I knew he would be fine on the mental side, too. DeAndre, as I said, would mess with him a lot during games, and there was one time when Doncic was shooting free throws, and he reached his hand out to Jordan for a five in between his first and second shots. DeAndre didn't give him five, and I was like "What... The... Fuuhuhhh...!!!??!" because that's like Basketball Etiquette 101. Then I saw this little half-smile creep across Doncic's face, and I knew in a flash, Doncic knows he's better than DeAndre, and he thinks it's funny that DeAndre thinks he's better than Doncic. At that moment I felt pretty confident the kid would be able to handle whatever drama the vets, the press, and the league could throw at him.

it's pretty crazy that a 19 year old (with his physical stature; i mean when u come in with lebron body or Duncan body I understand but he isn't some physical freak) is already the mav's best player.

not sure if that speaks badly about the team around him, or he's just that good. Very fun player to watch IMO

What's up with the 6 TOs of Doncic? Were they stupid mistakes or was he pressured? I saw that Westbrook got a lot of steals.

Three bad passes, one travel, so yeah, most of them were pretty silly/avoidable.

He was pressured whole game by PG13 and double teamed out of PnR. OKC really prepared for him. And a couple of TO's were just rookie mistakes i would say. Tried to do crazy pass or travel etc.. Like i said, it wasn't his best showing even though box score could say otherwise.

People like to point out "what if he's another Tyreke?". Tyreke was really good but he didn't have this aura of a polished veteran with high basketball IQ during his rookie season. Luka is a tremendous basketball player.

IIRC

Tyreke's jumper was a huge issue going into his 2nd season.

Luka's jumper might need a few adjustments, but it doesn't visibly strike me as anything more than some minor tweaks; He's also shown the ability to hit the 3 pointer.

the goalposts for his naysayers just keeps going.

"isn't athletic enough, can't shoot, will be the next Mario Hezonja," to "well fine he's the best rookie but he's hit his ceiling."
It'll be difficult for anybody to post above 20 5 and 5, but it's about improving efficiency, upping his 3 pt%. Being able to improve defensively, and developing a post game.

I do think two elements he should focus on-adding weight/working on post game, and continuing on that 3 point shot.

If by adding weight you mean adding muscle, I agree, but the kid is already huge, and can pretty much post up any perimeter player in the league, including LeBron. He is like 230, with big legs and behind. That weight is perfect for him, he just needs to lose about 8 pounds of fat and add 8 lbs. of muscle, and he is perfect. Continue to work on the core, and just learn to use his body better. He is a very good athlete btw, so underrated in that aspect, it's crazy. He is big, strong, long, and has amazing coordination, and actually has an elite deceleration game which requires a special type of athleticism.

If you say so. I do wonder what David Blatt's opinion would be, though.

Hold up, you're saying that a fanbase KILLED a coach after a game?

It would be a shame if Westbrook will make into an all-star team over Luka, or guys like Fox, DRose, M. Gasol, Adams etc. Westbrook is the biggest fraud in the sports today.

What game were YOU watching? 25/6/7 and +11. Yeah, he had too many turnovers. But PG13 got away with a lot of fouls as well. Great game and more sick shot making.

He makes an all-NBA defender look silly at 19.

It wasn't even about that, it was just over a loss to the other guys in green. Just drama.

No, 2-6.

An the loss were against:

- Sacramento (by 7 points)
- @ Denver (by 8 points)
- @ Clippers (by 4 points)
- @ Warriors (by 4 points)
- @ Portland (by 3 points in OT)
- @ Pelicans (by 3 points)

Sacramento is only questionable loss and this is only game, where till the endMavs weren’t in play to win the game...

Ayton and Doncic improving as the season goes along. Last 10 games for both:

Doncic: 24.2 PPG / 45.6% FG / 37.1% 3P (on 7.0 attempts) / 71.4% FT (on 9.8 attempts!) / 5.9 RPG / 6.9 APG / 3.2 TPG
Ayton: 19.0 PPG / 63.2% FG / 75% FT / 12.9 RPG / improved D

Think both fanbases have to be excited what they are seeing from their rookies. Especially the Mavs. If these numbers by Doncic are a sneak peek at what he will deliver on a nightly basis in his prime, that's superstar numbers.
