2018-2019 OKC Thunder Regular Season Pt 1: A Renewed Hope

OK, final rant. I've posted here for about 5.5 years now, and decided after Xmas I wasn't posting on the OKC board anymore. Not because of anything but a few users who are just so damn annoying it's not worth the effort. I love discussion here and always have but it went so far downhill so fast it's insane, with stupid trade ideas and conspiracy theories about the Lakers getting Booker and Beal to OKC with Grantham being some sort of trade sweetener when he's an undrafted kid who came off an injury when anyone could sign him to some (not all, and he's been notably worse than the past) Westbrook stuff.

Arguing Lillard would be a better way to win, when this was argued after 2016, when he put up a near identical efficiency and far worse numbers literally across the board for that season and the entirety of the following, when Westbrook literally won MVP, and now following that two full seasons later with an "Aha, I told you!" when it's clear as day Lillard wasn't close to Westbrook at any point in those years may be the single dumbest thing yet. It's been two people in particular who've done it and have posted much more frequently this season than the last and the takes have now gone from mildly annoying and can laugh them off to so stupid I'm wasting time even trying to come for discussion when I can go to the PC board, trade board, DT discord, WTLC, or even the general board for better it's that bad. And now claiming to be a "smart fan" when the stuff spewed here daily is the dumbest crap I've read from anyone around the NBA is amazing.

I've seen trolls, I've seen PBPs, I've seen bad trades, I've seen it all. And through that I was always around but man these first 30 games this season have sucked not for anything but the garbage I've read here. It's actually been an oddly fun OKC season to see and yet I've posted here even less on this forum because of that junk. This is likely my last post on this sub as I've enjoyed the other forums way more by avoiding the stupidity I tried to just ignore. But trying to bait and troll people with the crappy takes that have been posted this year is bizarre and cringey. Hoping for a good rest of the season for OKC.

I really don't get this forum. I'm pissed at Westbrook for being unable to make a shot anymore and playing so bad but overall our team is overperforming and is really fun to watch and I only see pessimism, frustration and anger around here. I'm pissed when we lose games like last night but some of you are exaggerating way too much (or rooting against us, I don't know anymore)

PG13 is on fire, Grant improved a lot, Adams improved (didn't play well those last games), Diallo is crazy talented, Ferguson is doing a good job etc etc...We will be great if Russ can play a bit better and if Roberson comes back after all star break.

Why would i? Honestly, it sucks. I would have rather been wrong about Russ post 30 career than be stuck with a john wall-type contract.

It has been fun to watch because we’ve had one of the easiest (if not THE easiest) schedules in the league thus far. And we have one of the hardest remaining schedules.

My hope is better competition “inspires” Westbrook to raise his level of play. But thus far, Westbrook has given us little reason to have more hope than we did last year. It seems that almost everyone else is playing better BUT Westbrook and that’s very concerning and depressing because we are losing BECAUSE of Westbrook, our franchise max daddy player.

That wasn’t my intention. I hate writing long-winded posts but I do because I feel it is necessary to provide reasoning.

I’ll try to keep this brief and say how I’ve felt about Westbrook for years now in one sentence:

I have long thought that Westbrook’s style of play is not optimally (key word here) conducive to raising the level of play of his teammates and now that he is shying away from hero-ball, we see he only knows how to play that one way... which is not optimally conducive to raising the level of play of his teammates.

Wanted to shout you out here, because I had didn't want it to be anything involving you. I'm all for different opinions. And I'm all for criticism, and I'm all for all the discussion that's been here for years now.

I'm not for what the threads have devolved into because of what certain users have made them. Mainly one, and it's happened in basically every thread, rendering discussion even on topics where there's agreement just weird and unenjoyable. Hell even Justin when I get pissed I vent and I'm good for a while (though he's gone further of late as well and it's soured me and a few others I think), but I've enjoyed this season more than any in a while for OKC and other teams as well on court but the level of discussion here dropped to near reddit Thunder level bad. It's better kept to the PC board and trade board where there's not spamming of the same idea every thirty minutes to me, and if that's worth a warning, that's fine and I accept it. I don't feel the discussion of late has been good, and that's not saying anything about who's playing well or not. That's saying about random trades and everything.

That's why I posted. That's it. Those of you who I see elsewhere know I'm cool with you and I'll be seeing you.

I’m with Ralph on this one. This has been the main issue for me. I don’t care if anyone has opposing tales or views. If I disagree or they disagree, that’s where a discussion/debate can be had.

The issue starts when some (Bondom) think their take/opinion is better than others and respond to other’s comments in a very condescending manner. It’s narcissism at it’s very core.

Bondom thinks he’s better than us and that his opinion is more valuable and he operates as such. This becomes obvious when you read his posts. And it’s facilitated to some degree by other older members on this board. Bondom has his little “clique” and anyone who’s not in it or disagrees with that clique is treated as a second-class member, which is honestly annoying to newer members of the board.

This behavior is unacceptable and is harmful to the harmony of this board. And this is the last I will speak of it and the only reason I speak of it now is because Mr. Andre Roberstan has made it a point that this needs to stop.

If you don’t like what’s being talked about, no one is asking for your opinion. You don’t have to post here. Hell, put all of us “simpletons” on ignore if it makes you feel better about the board. But don’t condescend to others to make yourself better. It’s sad and annoying.

I accept my role in fostering this as well. I’m not innocent. In fact, sometimes I enjoy triggering Bondom because it’s so easy. But someone has to call this crap out. Bondom is just one member of this board out of many and should behave as such.

We've got users and actual trolling appears minimal so far as I can tell (I mean if complaining about Russ is trolling with the way he's played this year ...). I can remember when it was literally just like Spearsy, Dom, Andre Roberstan and me. Sometimes Natural Thunder would drop in. You'd post something and check back in like a day and maybe one other person had posted something.
