December 2018 Rookie of the Month. Who you got?

Post#1 » by marco102 » Wed Jan 2, 2019 4:54 am

I think it comes down to Kevin Knox and Trae. Being that Kevin is from the New York Market he will probably get it.

Thank goodness Trae's numbers improved during the month.

I'm voting Trae! He had some pretty good stats along the Hawks good stretch recently. The Hawks were 6-7 during the month. While the Knicks were 2-14. They are really tanking for Zion!

Edit: I added Heurter too. I didn't realize how strong of a month he had when compared to the other rookies in the East. We really got a steal with him. If you consider two way ability, Kevin should probably be considered heavily for Rookie of the month.

Trae. This was a much better race than November where you kinda had Trae as the only option.

In December, Trae was just much better and Knox team was terrible. Carter Jr had a supreme lead early December but that lead has since ended. Trae pretty much been the winner for the most part since.

So Trae

Kevin has earned it for December. And since Trae already won with an underwhelming November stat line, Knox seems the likely winner.

Trae will likely win it again later this season, though.

When you say Kevin earned it, do you say that due to his scoring? I didn't put it in there, but Trae had 4 double doubles during the month and believe it or not, his defensive numbers are better than Knox.

His production (and emergence from DNP-CD to 1st scoring option) is worthy of accolades.

Let him have it since Trae already has one under his belt. They'll likely split the remaining three over the rest of the season.

If I'm picking a Kevin....I'm actually leaning to our Kevin as in Huerter. 8-) .
He had an impressive December, his Ortg and Drtg were special. (If I'm reading the numbers right).

I def agree with this! I can't wait for Kevin and Trae to get an off season of training to strengthen up!

Funny enough, I think it's Trae. I had not realized how weak the east pool of rookies was.

Knox obviously the most logical other choice, I (biased) would give it to Trae simply because the Hawksactually played pretty well this month but Knox did take a step forward.

If you are comparing, it is Trae over Knox for December:

Offense
Trae 15.8 points and 7 assists on .530% TS%
Knox 17.1 points and 1.5 assists on .502% TS%
ORTG
Trae 100
Knox 96

Defense
DRTG
Trae 116
Knox 119
Trae 16 Steals + Blocks in 13 games
Knox 13 Steals + Blocks in 14 games

+/-
Trae -2.8
Knox -13.8

I think that’s what’ll happen - I think it should be Trae, but I think they’ll give it to Knox. The NY market helps him too.

No surprise but Trae was the better player in December as detailed in my post above.
