Everything I've read basically told me OT was a big letdown.

Octopath has a demo if you want to try it out first. I played it and decided it was not for me, but your mileage may vary.

I played the demo pretty extensively and enjoyed it (the second one, at least). I got scared off after reading so many of the reviews talking about how the eight characters didn't interact with each other and there was little acknowledgement of what had been completed. Seemed like the stores were supposed to be eight small stand-alones, instead of one interwoven arc. It still got decent reviews, though, and I wasn't sure if people thought it was worth it on sale.

I got hyped, reviews scared me off, now I’m bidding my time. One of my best friends got it for Xmas, so I’m just waiting for his opinion since we are generally on the same page.

Cool, let me know what the verdict is. I might end up grabbing it while it’s on sale as I’m not sure it will get any lower, and at this price I almost consider it worth it even for a couple standalone stories - I really enjoyed the demo. I also am always looking for switch games to play when I travel and this one might be pretty perfect. One story at a time.

I think I’m trying to talk myself into it :P

So, I sat and watched a 4 hour series of introductory videos on Civ 6 and now I think I have a better idea of what I should be doing. That'll be my weekend.

Putting together my spend list in 2018 while this Bucks game is on cruise control. I'm not counting my PC build since it's now not just a gaming PC but my everyday desktop.

Steam
Skyrim SE: $20 (played extensively)
Divinity Original Sin 2: $38 (played extensively)
Elder Scrolls Online: $10 (played moderately)
Final Fantasy 7: $7 (played moderately)
Cities Skylines: $8 (played moderately)
Portal 2: $2 (haven't played)

Switch
Disgaea 5: $25 (played moderately)
Shovel Knight: $15 (played mildly)
Hollow Knight: $15 (played moderately)
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: $52 (played extensively)
Ys 8: $48 (barely played - later sold for $29)
Stardew Valley: $15 (played extensively)
Overcooked: $15 (finished)
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze: $52 (played mildly)
Lumines: $15 (played extensively)

PS4
Assassins Creed Odyssey: $32 (played extensively)

Total: $369

First, holy ****, I can't believe I only got one PS4 game. But a bunch of good ones came out when I had my accident and was gaming-sidelined for basically two months.

I'm actually really pleased looking back on this list. Did I finish everything? No. In fact, there's only one game I did finish. But I'm terrible at finishing games and, as much as I do want to finish more, I'm actually kind of okay with that. It doesn't degrade the the fun and experience I had with the game otherwise.

The only game I really would say I regret getting is Ys 8, and I really thought I was going to like it. I also was able to sell it for more than half of what I paid which was a pretty good quick return. I was disappointed in DKC Tropical Freeze, but don't regret buying it because I was so hoping for something close to DKC1-3. It just didn't work as well for me. Portal 2 was bought on super sale for a rainy day, and Shovel Knight I randomly picked up a week ago to put on the back burner, so that I've put in 5 or so hours already is good.

Not reflected on here is that I played PoE for way over 100 hours and didn't pay a dime (though I will likely soon, to support the devs). I also played Persona 5 quite a bit as I've got over 140 hours into that game, and that was a purchase from last year.

**** it. Picked up Octopath for $37 after rewards (that were about to expire). Felt good after seeing how reasonable I was last year.

MIGs post has me wondering what the most disappointing/regretful game that you bought for the current generation of consoles?

By current gen, I mean:

PS4/PS4 Pro
XBox One/XBox One X
Nintendo Switch

For me, it's a either Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (made me realize I hated those kind of Battle Royale games) or Fallout 4 (which wasn't fun and made me decide to become really reluctant to pre-order games before reviews came out).

For the Switch, I don't especially regret any purchase, but I never really got a lot out of Stardew Valley.

Good question. That's too bad you feel you didn't get much out of Stardew, I love that game. I find it very relaxing.

I think I've been most disappointed with my Battlefield purchases. I love the Battlefield franchise going back to Battlefield Vietnam on PC when I was ~14. Battlefield 4 had a very rough launch but, once they patched it up I probably put 200+ hours into it. I still think it's better than BF 1 and BF V. I got bored of Battlefield 1 very quickly and I've played Battlefield V for maybe 10 hours.

This might just be me but I really feel like Battlefield went down hill once DICE started making Star Wars Battlefront again. I just shake my head, what a shame. Nothing quite like the feeling of being in a large scale sandbox battle with 4 of your buddies, in a video game of course, but I just don't get that feeling anymore.

CIV is life. The hours you can dump into that game is staggering.

I could honestly put a few games in here but the one that stands out would be Star Wars Battlefront - friends and I were convinced it was going to be the game to make us all play regularly together again. I've never lost interest in a hyped game so fast. CoDs, while bad, were exactly what I expected.

That's a hard question. I guess my knee-jerk reaction is Ys 8 considering it took me less than a week to play, decide I didn't like it, and sell, but I think I have to go with Fallout 4 despite playing it 50 hours and still owning it. I was trying Ys for the first time, and though I was looking forward to it, it wasn't hard to move on. FO4 was a huge disappointment, with FO3/NV being some of my favorite and most-played games.

I have a bad habit of buying hyped up games that I know going in won't be in my lane. Smash and Blops 4 fit that. So does any Mario game. I put less than 10 hours (usually much less) in them and they collect dust when I go back to what I like. I regret buying them but I'm not really disappointed. I knew what I was getting into.

Biggest disappointment is far and away Red Dead Redemption 2. Biggest let down since Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360, not NES. That game ruled).

Octopath is a ton of fun so far. I'm 4 hours in, and have experienced the intro into some of the 'characters don't interact'. It's true...but it also hasn't bothered me so far. It actually has just kind of allowed for imagination to take over; it makes sense that these characters would band together as adventurers to achieve their goals, so you can imagine some of their interaction and see the focused character as more so the star of their individual storyline.

I'm sure that's not for everyone, and it remains to be seen if it bugs me more 20 or 40 hours from now. But the combat, world, and music are all absolutely beautiful and it's hard to ignore those. I think the stories and dialogue are cute, too. It's much more yesteryear era, as opposed to today's "YOU MUST SAVE ALL OF HUMANITY FROM IMMINENT DOOM". That's a nice change of pace, too.

So I really wanted to 100% RDR2 with as little help as possible but I think I've played for 100 hours and only found 2 of the mfing dinosaur bones. And I just found my first dreamcatcher. The hell are these?

Finding the treasures with only the in game clues has been super satisfying. Definitely loving the game now that I've finally gotten into it.

I've been super in to the online play in RDR2. A friend of mine got me to get through the intro and we play pretty frequently. It's a lot of fun with friends but I just couldn't get into the main story.

Disappointments:
ARMS, Call of Duty (several, foolishly), Dragon Age Inquisition, Titanfall

Just regret the money I spent, not indicative of the game):
The Binding of Isaac Afterbith + (fine game, but I shouldn’t have dropped $40 to get it on Switch.), Dark Souls III (haven’t played it), Deus Ex Mankind Divided (haven’t played it), Divinity Original Sin II (haven’t played it), Hearthstone (enjoy it, but waste of money), Stellaris (barely touched it), Valkyria Chronicles 4 (barely played it).
