2019 Draft Discussion

Post#1 » by JMAC3 » Wed Jan 2, 2019 6:34 pm

Figured it’s good to get this thread started during the meat of the college basketball season. Here are a few mock drafts:

https://www.nbadraft.net/2019mock_draft

https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2811588-final-2019-nba-mock-draft-before-the-new-year.amp.html

https://www.si.com/nba/2018/12/20/nba-mock-draft-2019-zion-williamson-rj-barrett-romeo-langford-kevin-porter-jr

I hope we make playoffs and aren’t picking in lottery. This might be a good year to get a young center in 15-20 range, our own Jarrett Allen.

I think we end with a 10-12 pick and miss out on the playoffs, while settling for another mediocre prospect.

Apart from Zion and RJ no one at all interests me from this draft class.

I think it’s going to be a very weak class.

It’s especially thin on big men - which we need.

Really? This class should be solid. Not saying it’s full of superstars after Zion or RJ but should be a lot of nba starters.

Outside of the obvious Zion and RJ.

I like Ja Morant a lot. He’s probably my favorite prospect overall to be honest although I believe Zion is the only can’t miss prospect.

I also think Bol Bol could be a star player if he can get past his foot injury and into the right system in the NBA.

Other players that I like are Kevin Porter and Keldon Johnson. Porter has impressed me much more than Johnson but Johnson has the tools to be the next Kentucky player to star in the NBA.

In all honesty, RJ as a #2 overall pick shouldnt excite anyone either.

No idea how high is ranked Horton-Tucker, but obviously he could do this team a blessing despite his age. If he declares for next draft, he should be a priority (as long as Kemba gets his extension here). Might be too early but he seems to be MKG with a shoot (or at least a shoot that should improve).

Nickeil Alexander-Walker could be a decent option to replace Lamb is we pick around our usual 10th spot.

In an ideal world we dump Biz for an expiring and then draft a young athletic center to push Zeller and Willy for playing time.

Jaxson Hayes could be that guy.

I haven’t done of work on prospects outside the top 3, but I’m not asking for a miracle. If we could find a Jarrett Allen type I would be ecstatic. Athletic rim protector who is young and cheap.

If we can’t add anybody to help Kemba for a strong playoff push this year then we need to trade Kemba before he walks for nothing.

If we trade Kemba for assets and tank we might be able to luck into the top 5 or trade into the top 5 with the assets.

Ja Morant of a Murray State would be my primary target in that scenario.

Hayes is your best bet in this year's draft. Konate is a smaller big but is an elite rim protector with a jumper. He will probably be a late 1st or early 2nd round guy. Hayes has the elite length though.

In typical Charlotte Hornets tradition, Michael Jordan will watch the NCAA tournament and force the front office to pick a decent-floor, low-ceiling player from a big-name school.

What would you use to dump Biz if you are keeping your pick? I don't mean that as an attack, I just am genuinely curious what you'd be willing to give up in that case.

I would keep Bismack as a possible useful expiring for next season trades, like we should've done with Dwight.

We need a center in the draft. Maybe a swing for the fences pick and get Bol Bol? Maybe a Jontay Porter or Charles Bassey?

It would have to be a bad team that is willing to take on a bad contract for some decent assets. Someone like Cleveland or Memphis or Atlanta. I would use Frank, Bacon, Graham, second rounders, or Willy. All guys with upside for a rebuilding team but replaceable for us.

2019 Draft Discussion

Mitch is in Kentucky scouting PG Ja Morant (South Carolinian) at the Murray State game tonight. He is the projected #3 pick in the draft and I'm ashamed that I had no idea. Ainge and at least 20 other NBA teams have representatives there also. The game is on ESPNU.
