Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
Why isn’t JB running more plays for Bridges?
More often than not he’s sent to the shame corner on offence and is just left to stand there.
He’s shown flashes of really great potential but he’s never going to realize it if he’s sent to stand in a corner 99% of the time.
And why take him out last night Vs the Pistons just after he hit some nice shots and made some nice plays? Why not ride him a little longer? Let him find his groove?
I also think TP is extremely apprehensive passing to Bridges. He seems to look him off. A lot.

bridges doesn't need plays run for him
that's partly why he's such a great benefit out there. i mean hell, kawhi got a finals mvp without having plays run for him... its not some indicator of success, trust, or development for that matter. his current role is to find his spots out there as the game slows down for him and he's grown into it well.

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
I think I'm selling my stock on Miles. He doesn't have the it Factor. I just don't see a feasible path for him to become a high-end starter or star.
It's not a complete lost cause. As I've said before he's got a high floor and should at least be a rotation / role-player for the foreseeable future, due to his size and athleticism. This is assuming he can get back to hitting 35% to 40% of his three-point attempts and develop at least some semblance of off the bounce creativity.

Miles Bridges is 2 1/2 months into his rookie season. He has all kinds of talent, just like Monk. That does not mean he will figure out how to use it in a snap, intelligent though he may be. Sometimes if you are smart, it actually takes longer to put things together, because you see more parameters. And there are a lot of parameters in NBA basketball.

I don't see how anyone can feel strongly one way or the other about Miles at this point. He's had some awesome games and some crappy nights, and personally I don't think he's even playing the right position most of the time (I think he's a small-ball PF at best) which does not help either.

It seems like I'm saying this every year, but it's important to note the guys around him. We have a bunch of iso scorers on the 2nd unit and that doesn't seem like the best match for a guy with Miles skillset.

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
I don’t think miles bridges will be any sort of superstar. Maybe not even an all star, but I think a very good starter is what his potential should lead him to.
Two way player, can spread the floor well enough, focuses on analytically efficient shots (three pointers and at the rim), huge bounce, and high energy. He’s in a similar mold as Aaron Gordon but with less bounce and maybe more versatility. That type of player at the tweener SF/PF spot (I think he can play both at a high level) will be a luxury to have as the league continues to modernize and become more versatile. As long as he has productive off seasons, I just don’t see any reason to sell him short yet

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
bridges not being able to rebound that well is the biggest red flag for me. yeah he sucks with the ball, can't shoot, doesn't know what to do with the ball -ever-, and thinks dunking as hard as possible are the only two points that matter
but he is really suspect on the boards. he should at least be able to do that consistently.
to clarify: all im saying is he is FAR from untradeable. im on the side of "sell high" but that's really it. i think he needs a real offseason to work on what he wants to provide for an NBA team more than anything else.

Don't really agree with this, to my eyes he seems like a plus rebounder. Look at per 100 possessions and he's basically Jeremy Lamb 2.0 and roughly equal to Marv.

our rebounding has always been gang/committee
that same eye test should tell you that lamb is absolutely not one of the best rebounders at the SG position in the league. our bigs clear out ( this year its basically cody vs everybody or MKG snatching rebounds he has no business getting at all) and our wings eat the free food then take off in transition - that's the goal and always has been even going back to larry brown
miles struggles to clear space and he should be waaaaaay more active on the glass than he is. its not some small thing either. this team gets KILLED on the glass at times. everyone here is aware of it.... but how often do people think "man, if only we had miles on the court to get some boards"
it doesn't happen. because no one has seen him be that kind of guy in the NBA so we don't even expect him to fill that void or add value to that area.
its a problem man

Agree to disagree, I actually think Lamb is a plus rebounder and I think JB has inserted Miles when we need some physicality and help on the boards. Are you just going eye test here? Cause the stats don't back this up.

i'm not sure what kind of weight an eye test even matters when you think lamb is some kind of impact player on the boards
its obvious right there that we're not looking at rebounding in the same context. its not like the numbers even back up miles being a impact on the glass anyways. dude has maybe 20 offensive rebounds or something right now...

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
Among all guards who have started 15 or more games this season, Lamb is ranked fifth in rebounds per 100 possessions. He is an excellent rebounder for his position, it's always been a strength of his.
I'm really surprised at this take. Miles has elite athleticism and is clearly more physical than your average wing. He routinely skies for boards. I think he processes things slowly sometimes and gets out of position, but even with that he's a plus rebounder.

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
I'm starting to hate the "it factor" takes.
And yeah the stats really don't paint Miles as a bad rebounder. For a rookie coming off the bench he's doing fine overall. Could he be better at stuff? Sure. So could literally every player on every team.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

The guy is 20 years old. How many other rookies are absolutely crushing it out there consistently?
He's been, in my estimation anyway, a net positive player out there for the most part. Not overwhelmingly great but also not a drag on the team or an invisible man.

notice i said activity not *jumps high*
we know he jumps high. his problem is he can't position himself that well and as great as his first jump is, he's never even close to using his second jump to fight under the rim. he does not control space well AT ALL for a guy that's been the biggest or strongest player on the court for most of his basketball life.
and ffs who actually comes to charlotte thinking "guys, we gotta make sure to keep jeremy lamb in check when it comes to the glass"
guard rebounding numbers are always a joke. you can look at guys all up and down that list and know with certainty that if it was just them and lamb going for a ball then lamb would get smoked. is he really twice the threat on the glass that donovan mitchell is? no of course. eye test in the bushes. and if you want to run back to numbers again then explain how miles has exactly 21 offense boards so far.
guys can get better but miles looks like he has no idea how to even box out or get around others when it comes to rebounding opportunities. some stuff you should know how to do.

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
I think Miles had difficulty finding his place in college, and it’s followed him to the pros. Too small at the 4, fits a 3 but doesn’t have the speed to defend quicker SF’s, jumps and dunks great but has questionable footwork and instinct around the lane, shoots OK but inconsistent. He shows promise and flashes. His ceiling is lower than desired; maybe a starter someday but just as likely to be a key reserve.
I wanted SGA and was majorly bummed when he fell to us and we passed. Nothing against Miles, but I was right...again.

Anybody who says Lamb isn't a fantastic rebounder from the guard position is missing something

You’re jumping the gun on Bridges. Your team has decided to invest time in Batum and Marvin Williams, two players that aren’t leading your team anywhere. Honestly you’re right on the SGA front because Kemba should’ve been traded for something but you guys kept him and drafted a wing because you want to win now with a mediocre roster.
You guys should’ve BEEN playing Monk at the 2 and Miles at the 3. Tank for a better draft pick and plan for the future. Miles is a better shooter than he has shown. He’s also a better playmaker than he’s shown. He is however an afterthought on this team.

I don't think anybody here say you were wrong, but it's just too early to tell anything at this point.
