Typical Bulls move here, typically has nothing to do with the actual product, everything to do with the business side of things with exactly zero benefit to the team on the court. Do other teams do this sort of thing on a regular basis? I ask, because I see this through my own tunnel vision, but perhaps I miss the other teams making such nakedly financial moves.

This was a cash move. I highly doubt the 2nd gets sent.

Good job by GarPax! Coming for that profit title.

better question to ask the GB board. I would assume so

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

It's probably like Top 59 protected or something. Sounds like an ownership deal.

Basically: Nothing to see here.

I definitely want to see the details on this. I wouldn't be surprised if the protections weren't that heavy. This team doesn't seem to value 2nds.

Both KC and a Houston beat reporter are describing the protections as needing way too much to happen to convey. The cash covers waiving Brooks and MCW.

Sarver did a lot worse when the Sun's were contenders and it cost his franchise about 8 years of relevance.

So it's us and Phoenix.

The only other team I see do this on a regular basis is the Suns and it’s because $arver is cheaper than Rein$dorf

I'd more expect that more from a smaller market team like Phoenix, though, and would have much more sympathy for a team that needs to scrap and save to be occasionally competitive rather than a team that operates in one of the biggest sports markets in North America with a generally rabid, dedicated fanbase.

So it's a basketball move.

How does this affect basketball from the Bulls perspective?

Small "equity" building move. Maybe this frees up some money to spend elsewhere, but probably just helps lighten the load of Hoiberg's dead money/raises the bottom line for the $dorfs. Every dollar counts!

Enough to pay the salary of player being waived and a slight profit probably around 100k to 500k

Waving Marshon Brooks frees up a roster spot.

So, essentially the Rockets paid the Bulls to get an open roster spot, and the Bulls used that pay to get an open roster spot for themselves?
From the basketball's perspective, travel is a nice pause from being pounded to the floor.
